  1. I would go for a nice/good internal IDE burner and put in a USB box. If you then want to replace the burner in the future you still have the box. Got it. But does anyone actually have a suggested model? I'm not so sure on LG, I think I'll stick with pioneer since it has pretty good reviews.
  2. I have both actually, but still would prefer an external one since the IDE cables are all used up. So would the best thing to do be to get a internal drive and insert it in some sort of USB box?
  3. Since the only drive I have, Matshita, has failed me, I need suggestions on a new drive. From the looks of it people on this forum seem to suggest pioneer drives, but I'm still not sure which model to get. I'd prefer an external burner, but I don't know if these generally suck compaired to the internal ones. Any suggestions are welcome since I know very little on optical drives.
  4. Well, OPC doesn't seem to be giving me a tough time; it only failed to pass that one time, all the other times the drive burned fine. And I've also tried cleaning the laser with a memorex disk cleaner, no luck there. I'm pretty sure the Verbatim disks I got are legit since they were from Rima.com I'll try rebuilding the image then. But if it wont work, any suggestions on external burning devices? Also, do I need to use DVD Shrink to output the files or could I just emulate the image and drag the contents out? Oh by the way, could you explain the difference in choosing the "ECC block boundary, VOBU boundary" instead of a normal layer break position?
  5. I'm trying to burn some backed up images onto some Verbatim DL 2.1x. I'm having trouble with this one particular file, attempted and failed three times. First go everything was fine aside from not being able to find layer break positions, but I've burned some other images with same condition without problem. Then, after reaching the second layer the burn failed at 59%. No log for this one, but I assume it should be same as the third burn down below. Second go the OPC failed. Thrid go OPC didn't fail, and again the burn halted at 59% Log included at bottom with some repeating information edited out where noted. I have successfully burned other images on same kind of media, DL sized DVD backups without layer break options. I've tried a drive cleaning disk but still yielded nothing. My question then is, is this possibly a problem with the image (corrupt, perhaps?), or is it because of the drive? I know Matshita is of poor quality, but since it has yielded me some successful burns I'm not ready to turn all the blame on it yet. LOG: I 18:00:11 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started! 6. Now that you've mentioned this, I actually retried reading the disk and they seem to read fine now. Come to think of it I noticed this problem when reading disks I burned immediately prior, so could it be possible that the drive was unable to read the disks because it just exited from writing mode and the laser got affected?
  7. For some reason if I build&burn a DVD with an UDF label containing spaces, my computer can't recognize it. In other words, "temp" would work fine but "temp disk" won't. The burns are still successful however, and the data can be accessed by first opening Imageburn recognizing the disk, and then going to windows explorer to access the data; though no label is displayed. Is it something wrong with my disk drive or is there a standard practice not to include spaces in volume labels? p.s. I always press the "Copy UDF label to other file systems" button.
  8. Thanks dude. The firmware update really did the trick
  9. Ensure this is set to 2.4x for all your DL burns. Yeah, didn't do it the first time cause obviously I wasn't suspecting it to fail lol Try also a firmware update - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2180 Regards That's the UJ-832"S" update though, mine's a "D". I did come across that when searching, but I wasn't sure if I should install it. Think it'll be ok? Thanks a bunch for the reply though.
  10. I've tried building a DVD-video as well as just a game image, but both failed of the same problem. The drive burns for some time and then, at about 49% or so, it returns a "No write current" error followed by lots of "Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format" I'm using a MATSHITA UJ-832D drive with Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x Log for the DVD-video burning session: Log for the game image burning session:
