  1. Cynthia and LIGHTNING UK! Thank you. I am now better equipped to make suitable purchase decisions. Regards Alan
  2. I have 4 off USB ports - all fully occupied, and something important has to be disconnected to make way for the web-cam or printer. I would prefer not to have additional juggling of USB devices. This is the first time in two years that I wanted to write to any sort of DVD, so for now I will be more careful with the media I buy. Regards Alan
  3. Hi How can I know what dye is used ? The only information on the failed DVD-RW is a bar code for the cash desk, plus ""High Quality Pure Silver Rewritable Technology". Would you please quote an example of the sort of information I should look at, preferably whilst still in a sealed box before I purchase and take home ? Regards Alan
  4. Thank you Cynthia. I bought Verbatim CD's because I wanted a good chance that my system recovery Boot CD would work after years on a shelf. The DVD-RW were for short term re-usable storage ( I was thinking of system snapshots ), But this week I opened the pack to burn yet another Boot ISO image, because all the CD's booted well, but did not give me the functions I wanted, so rather than wasting a never ending sequence of single use CD's, I decided to use a re-usable disc. I had thought a cheap disc would not last so well, and there was greater risk of data errors, I had not realised the DVD player/recorder would immediately reject any brands. Your reply encourages me not to give up, but to try different brands, I had been wondering if the DVD laser had worn out after 5 years and all I could record was CD's Is there a site that identifies suitable brands of DVD-RW for MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-811 H100 (E:) (ATA) Many thanks for feedback so far Regards Alan
  5. Please clarify. Is it just this particular brand that is disliked, or would it object to any sort of rewritable media ? My computer is a 5 year old Acer Laptop Travelmate 244LM with a DVD-RW. Earlier today a friend told me it might need erasing before use. I tried and the log below was the result. I never got past "Unable to Recover TOC" I tried to write to the "erased" disc, and still failed (but nothing more added to the log). I also noticed today that trying to use this DVD-RW, the Imgburn right hand half was greyed out with only the MATSHITA device type showing but when a commercial pre-recorded music DVD was inserted the right hand half showed a lot of information. 6. I have an ISO image to burn Tried to burn a 4* speed DVD-RW "Medium not present" - then I loaded and inserted. "Logical unit is in process of becoming ready" - status held for 27 seconds whilst dvd flashed "Unable to Recover TOC" What is a TOC ? Is it a Table of Contents ? Why does Imgburn expect a table of contents on a blank unused DVD ? Am I supposed to Erase an unused blank DVD before writing ? Does Imgburn deliberately refuse to burn a DVD when the ISO can fit on a CD ? Does a DVD have to be mounted upside down relative to a CD ! ! ! After many failed attempts with a cheap Tevion DVD-RW (from ALDI), I had perfect success with a cheap Verbatim 52* speed CD-R (from NETTO) with the same ISO. I made further failed attempts with the DVD-RW. After which I copied the log and pasted it below. This log shows what happened when I burnt the CD-R, You will also see that nothing was appended to the log by the failed attempts with the DVD-RW. In my life I have burnt 3 off CD's as Boot CD's from ISO images, and have no experience of burning any sort of DVD, nor any CD-RW, so please be gentle as you explore my ignorance. Incidentally, I have just tried a Video Music DVD. It holds 3.63 Gb, and, and the music and live action are perfect on VLC. Regards Alan I 20:17:49 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!
