----------UPDATE------------------ I uninstalled the DVD drive and restarted my comp and let it re-install the drivers and now it appears to be working again. I have had a lot of trouble with this drive, so who knows whats up with it.

So I was able to play a DVD on my computer using the drive I am talking about. But then once I took the DVD out, the drive description went from DVD Drive back to CD Drive and ImgBurn doesn't even recognize the drive now. Do you think theres anything I can do to fix this?

So do you think the drive is dead?

I "flashed" the drive from a Dell to a Sony about a month ago and now neither firmware updates work. The drive is a SONY DVD+-RW DW-D56A with PFS3 installed. Any ideas?

I haven't been able to use ImgBurn lately. I am using the same DVD drive and DVD+R media that I have always been using that has worked fine. Cant tell you about the discs because I have already thrown them away and have none left of that brand, but I did crossflash the drive and everything has worked fine since.

What is crossflashing and how do I try this?

I just tried it again, but changed the write speed from Max to 4X and then both of them worked.

The drive is both DVD-+R and DVD-+RW, so I don't think thats the problem. I am just wondering why it would be a drive or media problem if it works sometimes, and then it doesnt at other times.

How is it illegal if I own the DVD and decide to back it up?

Anyone tried burning Curb Your Enthusiam Season 4 Disc 2. I keep getting an error. I was stupid and didnt save the log and dont want to waste another DVD just to get the log. Does anyone know of problems that people have had with this DVD?

It appears that installing that new driver changed it back to DMA mode. Thanks for the help guys. I will try burning a DVD tonight.
