All replies welcome! My post: Hardware check including cables, drivers up to date, board up to date etc...... All very basic. Any other advice?

Could not find any help for this topic in the guides. Use 2x pc, one mainly for aud/vid, burning etc...Memory 2gb, cpu amd, 4x sata raid hd. This unit acts funny, did a hardware check, winxp sp3 and progs new installation after the error. Problem the same. 3 hours wasted. However, my second pc burns allright, cd-dvd. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yesterday burning 3x dvd +R DL. Number 4 suddenly stops at about 6% and the message: logical unit communication crc error(ultr-dma/32). Understand that this is a transmitting error between the data on hd and the dvd disc and not imgburn. Yes, dvd drives all dma. Done some extra burning: different 4.7 dvd and 8.5, all +R and var content and dvd brand, also older iso files.. Only movie(vob) data dvds at about 6-12% stop and the error msg. Not cd/dvd and data/progs/pics. Format system partition and new installation winxp sp3 and firmware reinstall drive, no pos result with minimum prog install and/or full. Not some prog to blame. Windows drivers for hd, memory etc...and drives ok. Burn device LG. Yesterday, I have not changed anything in the system or installation before or after the burning errors. Any advise? Greetings,

Q: How can I force IB to burn the first layer on a DL full(most) and the remaining on the second layer? Before burning a vid/data disc I make an ISO first after removing the locks when necessary. For burn convenience only. Burning an ISO about 7gb on a DL , the data is auto splitted by IB almost exactly in the half. 3.5gb on first layer and 3.5gb on the second. Have done some experiments and reading in manuals but unable to succeed or find any other usefull info, exept for a new build. Any advice welcome.

Attn: Lightning UK Not sure I understand what you are saying? In all my progs, Windows included, the auto update is cancelled and only firewall and anti-vir are allowed. Auto update for Img is not necessary. Last 12-04-2007. In default Img updates every day-week....etc.. Done some adjutment in Img and back to default again, forgot check update to never. In general all my progs are blocked by the firewall for outgoing traffic or changing the registry and other uncommon behaviour, when not trusted or with limited permission to do so. Done a search and found an old Img log. The failure times correspond exactly with the old Outpost logs info times saying update blocked. This is why I thought the firewall/img combination is probably the reason. Since the adjustments in my first post, no more failure. The importance of the following for your personal situation is unknown to me. Few weeks ago, burning an image there was a burn error about halfway saying: Address not found- wrong address etc.. Twice successively, one 8.5 and one 4.7gb. Two discs in the waste bin. Before this ImgBurn all in default. Done some checks and in the logs of my software firewall(Outpost) I found: "Outgoing blocked" and more. My firewall blocked ImgBurn/DVDDecrypter complete when burning a disc and when it made an attempt to update or whatever triggered the firewall, perhaps this could have been the problem in the past. First: Changed ImgBurn and DVDDecrypter in trusted progs. Second: I changed the settings of Img in: Events>check for program update>never. For DVDdecrypter: Settings>events>uncheck "check for program update". No errors since. Greetings, Wishfull

Attn: Lightning and Blu 1. Know how to remove this info after your advise. Understand that the purpose of this information in the files is of no value for the user(player) of the ISO. 2. I suppose, random letters are okay. So why are these progs not adding some random info? Who is happy to know what prog fabricated this ISO, since ISO is a general standard?

(Sorry, could not find a topic on this subject) Using a prog like DVDInfoPro there is information avail about the inserted cd/dvd. Sample: UDF implementation id DVD Shrink, DVD2One or IMGBurn etc... Depends what prog is used for the ISO. Where do I find this info in the ISO or more precise, how do I avoid that this information is added in the ISO and/or burned on the disc? Any suggestion welcome, Greetings

I understand that every respondent on this subject, and in other posts, is a Verbatim shareholder? My LG GSA-H10N firmware JL12(lock removed) burns a lot. Last year: -50x Ritek R05-01 full printable(12x) -100x Optodisc R16(16x) -100x CMC MAG E01(8x) silver top full printable -100x Benq Daxon AZ3(16x) Total of 6 coasters or partial none-read discs, probably my mistake. Done some things during the burning process. Always burn +DL no Verbatim and no problems with these discs! Also burned some no Verbatim discs three years ago and in excellent condition today, a different burner of course. What I leant is that you should not start/save/edit a program/file during the burn process. Verbatim is OK. Question: What are these replys all about

LIGHTNING UK: It makes the program send the 'Reserve Track' command all the time when burning DVD+R. Normally it's only needed for DVD-R burning. Q: So, what is a Reserve Track and why do I need this for a + or - R?

Dear Defenestration - Ifcrule1972 - Blutach and Lightning UK, All your replys's have been a great help to clear the +RW format procedure in coop with IB. Not really. It's a bit different. I'm not what you call a newbie in the dig world, but it is amazing to see how people react on a post, like beeing offended in person and at the same time do not add anything to the discussion/questions. I do understand all the functions in the settings, no university degree required for this. I had the pleasure speaking to Lightning before about burning +DL and the layer break. ImgBurn still Is not burning a +DL as I would like to. Yes I know, the drive burns the disc and not IB, but IB provides the commands for the drive. OK for you Lightning? Since I use ordinary progs and a standard burner DVD-drive(LG), a standard Winxp pro sp2, AMD 939, 2gb mem, sufficient HD mem and some other progs to make contact with others, it is not clear to me why this small prog(IB) acts different as to DVDDec, for +RW yes as Lightning explains. I burn my discs with IB in the same way as I did with DVDDec. Since Lightning has his own doubts, why shouldn't I have some? Yes Lightning, it is possible to burn an ISO on a DVD+DL and a +RW with Nero, no format with a new +RW. Only warning overwrite. Pse, stop this discussion and thank you. I look forward to version 2. Ref: spinningwheel - kevdriver All very nice these remarks like: new users not familiar with the original process.... or the majority of users is comfortable and happy..... I don't think that users like to know and see on their screen what a program is doing in real, or that every process asks for permission to execute something. They certainly do not want to be bothered by these annoying popup screens or msgs they don't understand. These are not working conditions you would like in real life looking at a screen. And the major part of the pc users don't care what is happening in their pc when they hit a key, newbie or pro! I advice you to take a good look in the sub-menu Settings from IB and ask yourself how many people using this prog will understand the many possibilities you have here? Ten percent, to much? Read the forum, top of iceberg. Back to the format +RW. I done a quick check and guess what? Two new blank DVD+RW 4x 4.7gb, one with ImgBurn an one with DVDDec. Surprise, the ImgBurn sample is demanding for a format and will not burn my ISO file without it and the DVDDec sample only informs me that all info on disc will be overwritten and after my OK it starts burning the ISO file. Not so for ImgBurn, it really starts to format first and this is a long process for about 5 mins. A new +RW never takes so long for a format and I never saw this happen, only with ImgBurn. The format process for a DVD+RW is very different and sample: with Nero InCd it takes much less than a minute, as it should. If I use a DVD+RW already written some data on it, the same result with both progs. Always burning an ISO file(dvd-movie). Conclusion: Use ImgBurn and you can have some fresh air, coffee or whatever for an extra 5 mins till the burning is finished. Question: What is this all about? Greet..., ......

You've done a fine job as a developer of a prog like ImgBurn. Yes, I'm a user. So, for the user, what are these nonsense for a format about ? Can't you just remove this info screen and tell the prog that it starts to burn? In general, this is what the user likes to happen. Maybe V2?

I often burn a full DVD+RW for to take a quick look at the result of my humble work in real on a large screen. DVD DEC never formats or aks to do a format when I burn a +RW. Only the warning that all info on disc will be overwritten, I suppose so. I'm sure that the discs are not formatted in advance or before. When you say: "DVD Dec was no different from ImgBurn in that it would still format a disc if it really needed to". Meaning if the disc was not already formatted? "You have to format DVD+RW, there's no 2 ways about it" Never had this experience. I can, yes. But do not have to for an ISO movie(dvd) or other data burn. Why, only necessary for editing purposes. People keep each other busy, don't they? Gr, ...

Burning a movie size 4.35(4.681)gb on a DVD+RW: This format thing is one of the reasons, among others, why I use the old DVDDecrypter more often. Imgburn will format the disc first and there is nowhere in the settings to find how to deselect this feature. At least I can't. Formatting reduces the available space on a disc for data and so a standard size movie(dvd) 4.35gb will not fit on this +RW. Second I do not understand why a disc is to be formatted in order to burn a standard movie(dvd). I know that a DVD+RW can be edited but if there is no need for doing this, just burn by ImgBurn is a nice standard. Maybe the new ImgBurn version 2? However the old DvdDecrypter just burns the ISO file with the full size 4.35gb movie on the disc without format and this is what Poster SAZZIEI is asking, IMHO.

Thank you, UK. They are video files. I will search with Google or try DVD shrink Change preferences(setting) DVDShrink Target DVD Size in 8.5gb. Open Files, select files and drag in left column or click right and add. Click Backup select in ISO, no compression. Burn the result ISO file with ImgBurn on setting 8.5 DL. Let ImgBurn calculate the DL-Break. Two movies works also. Complete Single Layer DVD Movies only or two without extras. Greetings, .....

Dear L UK, Yes, right. The drive burns the disc. Still one thing puzzles me. How come the difference between DVDD and IMG and not one disc but many? There should not be any! Note: Yes, also Verbatim and..... and......etc..

Burner LG-GSA H10N latest firmware JL11, also older LG model 4163 firmware A106 -Bad burn +DL ImgBurn -All settings default -ISO file setting full 8.5 and no changes made before/during rip, all locks removed for easy zipping DVD when playing -Layer break 0>1 calculated by DVDDecrypter or ImgBurn when disc burn starts -Differences DvdDecrypter 3.5.4.0 vv ImgBurn 1.3 Switched back to DVDDecrypter for burning my +DL media. ImgBurn introduces lots of errors at the end of layer 0 and therefore sometimes a nonplayable disc or lots of the familiar colored squares. What media does not matter. Possible fault: Faulty calculating layer break? Don't know and DLs are costing to much money to experiment forever. Settings in ImgBurn tab write-write type: DAO and Incremental Settings in DVDDecrypter tab ISO write mode: SAO and Packet My burner default settings for ImgBurn DAO and for DVDDecrypter SAO. 3xA: -Any possible advantage using DAO compared to SAO for +DL 8.5 or 4.7 discs? -Anyhow, I'm happy with the old DVDDecrypter. -Appreciate any serious advice.
