  1. I was using the DVD Copy function off Nero 6.6.1.4 and unchecking the "delete image upon completion", then canceling right after image generation and before it actually stated burning. Used all standard Nero defaults. Funny that Nero sees a fully formatted +RW as full even tho again there is only 292 MB of data. Since it's possible to Build directly off a DVD with IB, that's how I'll do it from now on and leave Nero out of the loop. Thanks again.

  2. 'tach ... successfully modded the opening screen on a similar (Ilo structure wise) DVD. Had to use cell cam to capture the text under the thumbnails ...

I have looked all through the DVD with 'Blanker trying to find "TITLE 01" ... no luck. A Sony DVD camera my sis has burns the title right on the opening screen, where the Ilo does not (must have a resource string table somewhere). Any ideas?

  3. OK ... that worked ... File System states correct size. Copied DVD contents to HD then used Build (ISO 9660 ... otherwise accepted all default settings), Write, then Read. Iso shrunk compared to nrg (290 MB vs 330 MB). Tested again with Build set to ISO9660+UDF ... again successful. Fuji +RW tested in LG drive ... successful. Oddly enough, the Fuji disk in the Sony drive (burnt originally by the LG) showed in Read as "Formatted: No (Started)" tho it was fully erased thus fully formatted before burn (it reads correctly as "Formatted: Yes" in LG drive which could be firmware related ... at LL10 now but LL12 is available).

I'll try making a tiny nrg and see if the FS problem re-occurs ... if so then I'll link to it and maybe you could give it a gander. Thanks again.

  4. What would be the best way to edit the opening menu on a DVD? The Ilo DVD Recorder (from WalMart - very good yet pretty cheap) produces the following screen ...

    DVD-OpeningScreen.png

There is also Title, Time&Date, Clip Length and Recording Mode (EP, LP, ELP, etc) that is overlayed on top that I couldn't capture with PowerDVD, SnagIt, or Ctrl-Shift-PrnScreen. I want to do a PhotoShop edit on the thumbnails and the text underneath without changing the macros or anything else on the DVD. I have Nero 6.6 Ultra (with Vision) & DVDStyler. After extracting DVD contents to hard drive, will I have to turn the vob's into mpeg's, edit, and re-VOB or is there an easier way? The screen is from the following DVD (Simpsons episodes ... it don't get better than this) ...

  5. Iso's are a great long term hard disk storage format ... they keep everything together with no chance of loosing files & directories. Also, if the disk is bootable, it will preserve that. Iso's can be broken down later to their constituent files & folders by using a prog like IsoBuster.

  6. UK ... did test on both my DVD drives (Sony external & LG internal) & 2 disks (Sony +RW & Fuji +RW). Used an nrg of ~ 330 MB in size. There is a very slight discrepancy of reported size between Disc & File System ... but it looks like a possible bug to me. Disk info identical per disk on either drive.

  7. If it couldn't understand it, what would happen ... error message? using the Disc size value in File System? I'm going from memory here as I'm working out of town, but the default for IB is File System it appears (which I never changed), and on this machine and my machine at home, reported size by FS and Disc have always matched on +RW's filled less than capacity. I'll do some more thorough testing this weekend with diff disks & drives and report back. Thanks UK.

  8. UK ...

The highlights of your responses ought to go in the FAQ. I also was wondering why +RW's wanted to go through a format, while the other progs I've used (RecordNowMax, Nero, ECDC) are near instantaneous. I understand now.

  9. Since it does does do a sector by sector copy, does that include data-less sectors? A DVD+RW I used Read on created an image the size of the disk (4.7 GB), yet it only had 300 MB or so of data (to see what was up, created an image using Nero 6.6 and the resulting nrg was 330 MB in size). Is there a switch or option in IB to have it disregard data-less sectors?

    Fine prog BTW.
