  1. I'm using Verbatims (DVD+R DL 2.4x - MKM-001-00 dye - Made in Singapore) for dual layer burning and have had no problem in the past. My two last burns on my desktop have competed the WRITE phase successfully; yet, they fail on VERIFY. I get the following error message: W 23:32:03 Failed to Read Sector 858720 - Reason: L-EC Uncorrectable Error. The first coaster does not play at all on any of my players and the second plays erratically. I've successfully burned the same DVD's using my laptop. My system is running on 64 bit Vista and I've recently installed the most recent versions of imgburn, mediamonkey, and peerguardian. Also, windows update has failed to install the following updates on my computer: KB969897 and KB951847 (I figure anything can help). Here are the two logs: ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 - Log ; Monday, 22 June 2009, 22:59:06 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 21:20:32 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started! 2. I've been affected by Hurricane Ike (all of my stuff was submerged in 1.5 feet of water (including my desktop with book typing capability); thus, I want to crossflash my Dell drive. Can anybody instruct me on how to crossflash safely and in a way that will allow me to restore my drive to its original firmware if I desire? Please provide links if available. Thanks!
  3. Ggggreeaaat. Thanks for the response! Anybody know if booktyping/bitsetting absolutely necessary? Is it just for the oldest of standalone DVD players? Should I burn DVD's exclusively on my desktop? What do you think? Also, what is crossflashing and do you suggest it? Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.
  4. I've just bought a new Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H D500 (ATA) optical drive (I believe it is a Samsung). I've read on the forums that Samsung drives auto booktype. I tried to change the booktype using the samsung tab on the imgburn booktype feature, but it would say: "Unknown (FAILED!) Reason: Invalid Field in CDB" I am using a pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL (MKM-001-00; Made In Singapore) that work perfectly with my desktop's Lite-On drive. The burn was successfully completed and the DVD plays on my laptop. However, this is what I get when I put the burned DVD back into the laptop drive: "Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: MKM-001-00 Book Type: DVD+R DL" I always get a book type of DVD-ROM with my desktop and I've seen other members of this forum that have TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H drives that booktype to DVD-ROM. I should add that, under the "Change Book Type" feature, I clicked on "Advanced" ("Configure Drive OEM") and entered "TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H D500" into the Drive ID area. I also updated my firmware to the most recent (D500) on the Dell site. What else can I do to change the booktype to DVD-ROM? Please help and thank you in advance for your time. 5. I was burning a couple DVD's using the same batch of new, made in singapore, Verbatim DVD+R DL's (MKM-001-00). My most recent disc would not finalize, which I couldn't understand since the previous two burns were perfectly fine (I made sure to restart my computer between burns). 6. Thanks for the lighting-fast response LIGHTNING UK! I followed your advice regarding dvdinfopro and got some unfortunately surprising results. For the DVD volume titled YI_YI, I set the options as you advised and received a much higher quality rating of 97.30%. I then tested GHOST_WORLD (the coaster), and got an unexpected quality rating in the 90s under a speed of 4X. I then retested GHOST_WORLD under a speed of 8X (the imgburn forum standard...I couldn't find 8X CAV in the options) and received a quality rating of 96.88%. Why were there changes in quality ratings when I reset the speed (shouldn't I get a similar reading)? My good burns (YI_YI and CITY_OF_MEN_D1) work fine in my XBox; however, the coaster (GHOST_WORLD) skips at and/or near the layer break. Because of that, I still believe GHOST_WORLD was a bad burn. Also, I retested GHOST_WORLD at MAX speed and got results similar to my old test (less than 25%). Any information regarding this issue would be great (this question is, of course, open to everyone who reads this). The following are the new .png files of YI_YI at 4X and GHOST_WORLD at 8X. 7. First of all, thanks for such a great program LIGHTNING UK! Before my winter break (12/15/07), I burned two working dual layer DVD's (DVD+R DL Verbatims) with my brand new computer. After my break (yesterday), I burned another dual layer that turned out to be a coaster (bad burn). Here is some information on the 2 working DVD's: I burned both with IMGBURN at 4x. At that time, my user account control (I use Windows VISTA) was turned on. The 1st DVD (volume: CITY_OF_MEN_D1) was built from a VIDEO_TS folder. The 2nd DVD (volume: YI_YI) was burned using an MDS file. Information regarding the coaster: I decided to burn this DVD with IMGBURN at 2.4x to produce a perfect burn. The user account control was turned off at the time (it's really annoying). The DVD (volume: GHOST_WORLD_NTSC_DVD9) was built from a VIDEO_TS folder. I chose a "good" quality layer break (yellow star). I saw that the average write rate was 2.3x. Doest this mean that the write speed is not high enough to produce a quality burn? In my case, would it be better to burn the DVD at 4x instead? I suspect this since the quality rating for GHOST_WORLD started low even on the first layer (around 70-85% for the first layer...then super low for the second). The quality ratings were good for the working burns throughout the discs. Please help me. I would love to find out what the problem was with this burn before burning another DVD. For your reference, I will include a log and DVDInfoPro .png image for each burn in the order I burned the DVD's: (CITY_OF_MEN, YI_YI, then GHOST_WORLD). Thank you all for the very prompt responses in the past. 8. I have an .iso of a dual layer DVD. I do not have an MDS for it. How do I find the correct layer break and create an appropriate MDS file using the .iso?
  9. Thanks for all the help. I just performed my second burn with my new Plextor (PX-810SA) at 2.4 X. I used the MDS file to burn, yet the PIPO test results showed that this burn was even worse (a lot worse) than the previous burn (the highest peak being near the layer break). Since my new Plextor cannot perform the PIPO parity tests, I used my other drive (Lite On) to do these tests (I included the .png files of these tests). Thanks. Please help. I bought this drive since my Lite-On was just giving me Verbatim DVD+R DL coasters (I heard Plextor was a great brand). ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 - Log ; Tuesday, 24 July 2007, 19:35:16 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 18:18:11 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! The media isn't rated for 5x?...does that mean I cannot burn between 2.4x, 4x, 6x, and 8x? or does that mean I cannot burn passed 2.4x (the Verbatim packaging says the discs are 2.4x speed and up to 8x speed with compatible drives). Sorry for the lengthy questions. Thanks for being very helpful.
  11. After getting many coasters with my Lite-On drive, I bought a new plextor drive. I recently burned a DVD using the famous Verbatim DVD+R DL with the Plextor drive. The burn verified just fine; however, the results from PI/PO testing state that the quality of the burn is around 50%. Please tell me if this is a good burn. I'm not sure if I know the full meaning of these test results. Am I doing something wrong? I chose the best layer break position, which was at "very good." ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 - Log ; Tuesday, 24 July 2007, 05:56:59 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 04:23:16 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started! 12. I have used Verbatim's respected MKM 001 dual layer media with a Lite-DVDRW SOHW-1633S BPSA. All dual layer burns, including one burned with ImgBurn, were unsuccessful. Can somebody please tell me whether the problem is in the drive or the media (very frustrated)? I've included the information for the burn I did with img burn. If anybody wants them, I also haveDVDinfoPro images for burns I did with other programs (they were all coasters). Thanks. I 03:38:09 ImgBurn Version 2.2.0.0 started!
