  1. Hi all, Firstly an admission that a sony drive i had previously claimed didnt burn verbs will burn verbs. I had said in a previous post that it wouldn’t and turns out it wasn’t verbatim that I was trying to burn onto. I then tried a verbs and as reputation suggests it went through with no problems. Anyway, I ditched that drive for something a little more durable. I’ve bought a pioneer 112d and was wondering what firmware/drivers I will need to get it up and burning in no time? Are Pioneer drivers etc suitable or will i need a modded one? Cheers
  2. are Verbatim and Taiyo as reliable as each other?
  3. There is no perfect drive for that job, too many permutations/ mobo/chipset/media Take your pick and hope for the best. Or buy good quality media and decrease the risk Are NEC generally a good place to start? I was under the impression that not all DL burners will burn 360 games (even with verbs?)
  4. That's all quite well for now, but what about a year or two into the future? Look around the site for graphs of some year old cheap CMC media and see how well it holds up. Better to spend another 30% on a disc manufactured to last . I appriciate that verbs are the way to go in terms of 100% efficiency, but friends of mine have had a lot of success with various discs, including aones, riteks, cmcs and ricohs. if they last a year or more thats a risk some are willing to take. but in terms of cost, a case of 25 verbs will set you back £45, whereas a pack of 25 ricohs or riteks wont go over £20, so there is a considerable difference in price. so with that in mind whats the best burner for the job?
  5. sorry to hijack a post, but im also looking for a new burner to be used to backup xbox 360 games? Ideally I want one that will burn 99% of the time with verbs, but also one that will have a decent success rate with other brands (ritek, cmc etc). I will be running it using IDE, any ideas?
  6. cheers chewy. i'll give it a go. whats the worse that can happen
  7. i'll see if i saved the error logs. i know i took a screen shot of the error message that comes up, but i dont think i saved the full log. if not i will run a coaster through the burner for research purposes
  8. cheers for that lightning. i appriciate the response. i will invest in a pioneer and see where that goes. do you know if the pioneer will run as a slave to the samsung? the samsung only appears to read xbox discs when running as the master?
  9. so would i be right to assume that my problem is poor media and a poor burner? obviously i could go out and buy a pioneer 112D and use verbs, but ideally i want to know what is wrong with the current set up i have. i can burn another verbs coaster and post the log if that helps (just didnt want to waste my discs)
  10. Im sure this is an issue that has been addressed by many of you before and i apologise for boring the life out of you, but ive search the net and cant find a definitive answer to my problem. Ive got a sony AW-G170A burner with fully updated firmware (mate of mine uses one with no coasters) and its running as the primary master on the secondary IDE channel. i extracted the .iso/.dvd using Schtrom version 3.3. I kept the task as whole disc (stealth extreme 3.0 splitvid), and used a sammy for the extraction. Im using Aone discs (with i think are rebaged RICOH discs) and again i know these work as my mate with the same burner has no problems (a coaster in 10, i think he said), but i have also had 2 coasters using Verbs. Using ImgBurn 2.3.2.0 I always get the same error. Half way through verification (just as it goes from one layer to the next) and i get the error below. My error log is this: SONY DVD RW AW-G170A 1.73 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+R DL Disc Information: Status: Complete Erasable: No Sessions: 1 Sectors: 3,825,936 Size: 7,835,516,928 bytes Time: 850:14:36 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x DVD±R DL Boundary Information: L0 Data Zone Capacity: 1,913,760 Changeable: No TOC Information: Session 1... -> Track 01 (Mode 1, LBA: 0 - 3825935) -> LeadOut (LBA: 3825936) Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67 Book Type: DVD+R DL Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,580,607 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,283,519 Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67 Book Type: DVD-ROM Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,579,023 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,110,367 Layer Information: Layer 0 Sectors: 1,913,760 (50.02%) Layer 1 Sectors: 1,912,176 (49.98%) ******************************************************************************** ****** I 19:33:06 ImgBurn Version 2.3.2.0 started!
