updated the drives firmware. the tray does open/close but then hangs. message reads "device not ready. medium not present" repeated manual ejecting/reinserting eventually got it started. disk?

hi, newbie here. been using imageburn a while now with no probs. until recently. when burning dual layer the program has started to hang. see below. am using philips dvd+r d/l. never had problem before. any ideas? thanks.
