Howdy All, My Pioneer 111L 8.29 has started having trouble burning discs and im unsure where the problem is. The drive has been working fine for ~6 months, flashed as a 111L 8.29 (Bufallo) with a mediacode speed edit to remove the ripping speed restriction (nothing else modified). The disc burns 'ok' in that there are no burn errors, verifies ok and shows a good quality score in nero cd dvd speed (in itself) and kprobe2 (on a liteon dvdrom). However during the burning process, the drive slows down the speeds up, then down/up (you'll see in the graph) in IMGBURN the device buffer remains ~94-100 and the ram buffer remains at 100%. The burner is on a secondary IDE controller (on the motherboard) and is the only drive connected (its a master) on a 80 wire cable. BIOS is set to Max UDMA, windows device manager says its using Ultra DMA (mode 4 from memory, ive also deleted all the IDE controllers and windows has redetected them to double-check). Ive reinstalled IMGBURN, gone back to default settings and tried changing from elbycdio to SPTI with no difference found (same problem). Ive used TYG03 and RITEKF1 media (same problem) - exmaples of both are below. I also see a similar problem using Nero Cd dvd speed (create disc) (graph included) Below is a Log, and link to the dvdinfopro graph and a nero graph. For the record, ive also tried dropping the burn speed to 8X - same issue is present. All, Thanks for the replies.. Im using elbycdio because it seems to be 'recommended' for people (over on the cdfreaks anydvd subforum) using anydvd to do the decrypting and dvddecrypter to do the ISO making. If SPTI works fine then i'll use that :-) (im not on a non-admin account). The MDS was definatly for the right DVD (both times).. Kenadjian, I know what your saying re:speed - but the drive slows down near the end of the burn (the failures were occuring late in the process 98% / 99%) where the drive'd slowed down burning. I'll see if I can find the .ibg file for that burn.. Lightning UK - is there a way to check if the MDS is 'bad' ? Cheers, Bitey

Your right - it does sound unrelated :-).. next spindle of DL's i'll give it a try on one of these troublesome MDS files.. to test it out.. im still wondering if the MDS is referencing something that doesnt exist in the ISO.. (then again i might just be going crazy Cheers, Bitey

Hi Lightning UK, Yeah same layerbreak position.. (I checked it before burning the ISO directly) I thaught it was a bad burn at first, but it burns fine with the ISO and not with the MDS - thats the wierd thing... 3 dl's failing in a row on the MDS then working on the ISO... and again 1 fail on the MDS and burn fine on the ISO (jewel case jobs).. just seems really suss to me - and they failed in the same spot... Firmware: Yeah I think theres a newer version out.. but these burns have been pretty good with that firmware (tested on a liteon drive with kprobe2).. ive only had these bad burns out of 40 DL's so far.. I'll check on the anydvd forums to see if anyone else has seen anything similar.. So theres no real problems burning the ISO directly rather than the MDS if the layerbreak is in the same spot? Howdy, Ive recently been having some problems when trying to burn using the MDS file rather than the ISO.. I blew through 3 Verabtim +R DL's using the MDS until I tried the ISO by itself (moved the mds file to another directory) - and it burned fine. Happened again to me tonight (differen ISO) - but only wasted 1 DL.. Im using Anydvd 6.0.6.1 and dvddecrypter to make the ISO/MDS files.. I turn off anydvd to do the burn. I suspicious of anydvd in this instance as ive only recently updated it and burned many DL's using MDS without problems. I think Peter's request has merit - remove the decrypting part and just keep the ISO generating engine. I wouldnt have expected any legal ramifications to this.. Leave the actual decrypting upto another tool. Cheers, Bitey

Lightning UK - great to see you back! Being the lazy bugger I am, does anyone else think a shell-integration 'brun' (context menu type thing) would be cool? - eg. ImgBurn remembers all your fav settings, so you can stick a blank dvd in, right click an ISO in windows explorer and pick 'burn' ? Cheers, Bitey
