I bought my dvd/vcr combo just over a year ago and it has a problem with certain dvds made using imgburn and dvd shrink. I know the dvds are good because they will play in my computer and in other dvd players and dvd/vcr combo's.

can I fix this problem on the software end, if so can anyone tell me how to correct the problem?

thank you

smd, The movie(s) may be good as in they can be viewed on some DVD/VCR combos as well as your computer but you may have used a cheaper brand of blank media containing inferior dye or maybe its just that the particular brand of DVD/VCR combo your not being able to view the movie on just doesn't like the blank format ... -r... +r . or the standalone just doesn't like the brand of blank media all togeather. :(

I have used the manufacturer of blank media for multiple movies and found that it is only with specifc movies I have this problem with. my dvd/vcr combo hasn't had any problem with writable media before which is leading me to believe it may be something other than the materials I am using

It appears to be the specific dvds because I because I ran into this with two other movies but I haven't had any problems with any other movies on my DVD/VCR combo. I had heard that specific movies where problematic and figured this may be the case with the couple movies I had a problem with.

my dvd player will recognize that it is a dvd and will start the autoplay but the movie will not play.

could it be an issue relating to how the dvd player reads the information or how the dvd is formatted?

polopony,

here is some information, I hope it is what you were talking about.

the blank media I have been using is memorex DVD+R which I haven't had any problem with, in regards to making other dvds.

I'm sorry, but Memorex media surely isn't the best available.

You'd be better off with Verbatim or Plextor media, Ricoh is also a good choice.

I do not know which movies you are trying to backup, but it could also have to do with some kind of copy protection.

edit: Can you check out the mediacode of your Memorex discs?

You can read it out with Imgburn and looks like this for example:

I dare say the movie starts playing after a minute?

This is quite good quality media, the problem you're having is "protection" related.

I'm afraid we realy can't help you with that, sorry. :/
