Ok, I went and bought some new Media....I bought Maxell Dvd+RW 4.7 this time.

Ok the Semaphore Timeout thingy, I saw someplace about Adaptec, DO I need to downoad that and if so what is it for etc??

I searched Google and found lots of info but have no idea which info is the most accurate. I sure wish I could get this problem solved.

By the way Nice humor

@Angel,

I don't want to keep harping about this, but it is important that newbies don't walk away with incorrect info.

I'm not sure what you're trying to show me on your screen dumps, but if it's the size on top of the shrink window 4,464MB you referring to, then that IS 4.35GB, well 4.359GB to be exact. :)

The total size of a 4.7 blank media is only 4.38GB.

What is the MID of the new media? (I'm betting they are still CMC MAG's) If so, you wasted your money.

Can we have a log from the failed burn with the new media?

Did take up corny's suggestion and lower your burn speed to 4x?

Is your USB connection USB2?

What make is the external inclosure of your optical drive?

Have you checked for firmware updates for your inclosure?

That will do for now. Please answer as many as you can from the list above.

Ok Im also confused on the 4.7 of the Media, it says 2hrs so am i to assume that there is a space limit even though it states 2hrs and if so how do I figure out what will fit or am I to always use Compression rather then Automatic?

Maxell is bad media, try verbatim or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R

4.7 gig blanks really dont give you 4.7 gigs of space and 2 hours means nothing really you can put a 3 hour video on a 4.7 . Hours means nothing, file size mean everything.

For exampley you could have a 2 hour video = 7.56 gigs

And you could also have a 2 hour movie = 4.35 gigs or 4.46 gigs

File size is what matters when burning to blanks if the file size is larger then the disc size you need to SHRINK the files down to fit on the disc.

Use your best friend google about SHRINK dvd video.

Your trying to burn faster then that media will allow what is the speed =X of your blank media ?

This log shows that your media is 2.4X which means you cannot burn faster then that. You cant burn faster then the media is made for.

Try burning at 2 X

I also see there is an (OEM)firmware for this burner I am wondering if you have the correct firmware for you drive.

Ok I was told my Firmware was way out of date, It was a TU53 and I was directed to get the TU56 so I did.

Im trying to get answers from so many Forums etc, it seems im getting diffrent advice from all of them.

The last 1 I went to is now telling me that my External won't Burn having something to do with my USB device drivers:

Ok in device manager it says

Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Intel®82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller-2442

Intel®82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller-2444

USB Mass Storage Device

USB Printing Support

USB Root Hub

USB Root Hub

If I can't use my External Dvd Burner then I wasted my money in buying 1.

I have no clue what I need now or how to fix it.......HELP!!!!!

how's it confusing?

you have a usb1 computer which is limited to 900KB/s

4x dvd burning is 5MB/s or 5000KB/s

with a desktop tower you can add a cheap usb2 card

simple as pie

Ok I never had anyone tell me you have to format dvd's before you Burn them, when I started with Dvd+R's I didn't format them and now I have Dvd+RW's. I automatically assumed that the media you use to burn with, that you use it the way it comes because I didn't no any different and my sister in law burns all the time with DvdXCopy and she doesn't format her disc's so I don't understand this part of it.

I was also told that if I download SP1 that it will change my Usb 1.1 to Usb 2.0, anyone know if that is true or not.

Ok and how hard is it to put a Usb 2.0 card into my Cpu?

I went to EverythingUsb site and have gotten NO help there..... Im about ready to toss it all and say forget it because it seems harder then its worth.

I know very well you're not a newbie, my comment wasn't aimed at you, I also did not say you didn't know what you're talking about, but it's as simple as this, YOU CAN NOT FIT 4.46GB ON A 4.38GB BLANK MEDIA.

So get it right my dear.

I think you need to do a bit of reading, the +RW media needs formating, this is a once only opperation (full format) than you can overwrite the data without the need of a format, the +R Nd -R media do not need to be formated.

No, SP1 will not change your USB.

Easy as pie, as per chewy's post.

If you're ready to "toss it in" that's your call.

Ok then how much does a USB 2.0 card cost and how do I know which 1 to buy for my Pc?

How hard is it to install the 2.0 card and un-install the 1.0 card?

Do you think doing this will solve my Problem and it will allow me to burn with my External Dvd Burner after ward?
