Slow burning

I read the forum FAQ, and verified that my computer (XP SP3, a dual-core cpu at 1.6 GHz, with 2 gigs RAM) is in fact on DMA mode (when possible, the Device Manager says). I find that IMGBurn takes what seems to me to be a long time to burn a dvd. I had 6 folders, some 4 gigs of data (single layer) on a dvd, and it took just over 10 minutes to burn. If it matters, most of this data is simply Word files and pdf files--very little graphics and music or videos. IMGBurn is 2.5.0.0--not the latest, but near enough I suppose.

 

Is there anything I can do to speed up these burns?

I see lots of file names. Was the problem created by long file names? I have files inside folders nested inside folders, giving them long names. I've gotten error messages (in different copying programs) before about not being able to copy certain files b/c of their long names....

Everything is fine.

 

Your burner only supports 8x and that's what you're getting.

 

If you want to go faster, get another drive.

Try the new A104 firmware http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GSA-T11N/files.html to see if you get higher speeds.

 

Try some decent Verbatim/Taiyo Yuden media.

One more thing--is there a particular burning format (joliet, etc.) that I could use, that would allow me to burn as many files with long names as possible?

 

I believe that is the reason for so many files in that log there---or is there some other reason why they were not burned?

The 'Skipped Hidden File: xxxxxxx' bit is there because you haven't told ImgBurn to include hidden files. It's an option on the 'Options' tab.

 

Hidden files are typically junk/temp/system files - unless of course you're in the habit of changing the file attributes of your files and setting 'hidden' to true?

 

There were 3 files with mega long names that had to be cut down a bit to fit in the descriptor within the file system. The weren't excluded because of the long names (or at all).

 

You're already including the UDF file system (the best one) so there's nothing more you can do.... except... if you don't need Unicode (non English/ASCII characters), you can turn off the UDF Unicode support which effectively doubles the max supported length of file names.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went through every tab in the settings window, including page 1 and 2 when I saw them, but didn't see any option to disable UDF unicode support.Can you let me know where I can access that option?
