.mds file

I have just recently used imgburn to make iso image files on my hard drive. I noticed upon completion I have the ISO file and then beside it a MDS file. What is the MDS file and do I need to keep it in order for the file to work correctly?

Depending on the size of the image, its usefulness varies.

 

If it's a double layer image, the MDS contains the location of the layer break.

 

If it's an image that's been subject to file splitting, it tells the program how to reconstruct the image from the numerous file parts.
