Hang at 99% Finalizing Disc

Just wondering if this is an ImgBurn bug (I don't use other burning programs :)), a drive problem, or a media problem.

When burning DVD+R DL discs, everything goes good until finalizing disc. It goes to 99%, then hangs. The light on the drive is still blinking, but it will stay like that forever unless I hit the Abort button. ImgBurn reports "Failed to Write Image" / "Operation Aborted", but if I then eject and reclose the drive, the burn reads fine. If I then do a verify to image, it succeeds. So, the burn is good.

Info:

Windows XP SP3

ImgBurn 2.5.6.0

Drive: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S222L SB03 (ATA)

Media: MKM-003-00 (Verbatim DVD+R DL, burn at 4x)

(SB03 is the latest firmware for my drive)

Here's a log... I don't think it will be useful as I think this is more of a problem with the drive than it is a problem with ImgBurn.

In this case, "Abort" did not work. The drive kept blinking. I had to end task on ImgBurn. The drive stayed blinking, and I had to reboot in order to get it to release.

The burn was still successful and verified OK.

I notice that this drive actually pauses for 30-40 seconds while burning when it hits the layer break. The light on the drive stops blinking for that 30-40 second pause. Never had a drive do that before.

Have you tried to wait some minutes longer?

Yes, I let it go for 20 minutes originally. This is a drive I put in recently and the drive has been like this since I put it in, so I guess it's the drive. I thought these Samsung's were supposed to be pretty good. (I've been having problems with Liteon and LG lately (especially Liteon).)

Burning that file in the way that you are (2,486,869 sectors with LB at 1,904,656), it's writing 4/5th of data on the first layer and 1/5th on the 2nd layer.

When the drive is then told to finalise the disc it'll probably be writing random data to the disc in order to even out the two layers - it'll do that to improve readability.

So yeah, just leave it to actually finish its job.

You can't abort in the middle of a disc being finalised (same goes for the sync cache, close track/session functions), the function runs until the drive says it's finished performing the task.

When you think it has finally aborted, it hasn't, it's just finished - which it would have done anyway if you'd left it the same amount of time.
