Having a sudden burning issue

Hi there

This is a long story so I will try to short it up all I can.

First a bit of a background (may be import)

Some months ago I changed my PC's motherboard and CPU from good old Asus P7P55D (mobo) to Asus maximus v gene, and Intel I7 860 (cpu) to Intel I7 3770, I also happened to add another HDD and happened to changed all of my other PC's parts year ago (RAM, HDDs, GPU, PSU, fans,) all aside from my burners and case (which made it like a completely new computer)  but that line not really matter (I think).

The new mobo (Asus maximus v gene) have some issues which make it detect the asmedia sata ports Over the intel's ones and it force my third HDD to be the main one, since this mobo have 2 intel sata ports,

2 asmedia sata ports, and 2 opticals sata ports, and i have 3 HDDs and 2 Burners I had to connect one burner to the asmedia sata port and the other to the opticals sata port (because if i plug any one of the HDDs to the asmedia they will take control over the Intel's sata ports even if I try to change it on the bios, And if i plug both burners to the asmedia ports they switch places with each other every restart D: , it known issue of this mobo and still happening even on the last bios so there's no fix for it atm but keeping that sata order)

Till here everything fine? Alright.

Well despite that issue everything is working fine as long as i plug the satas connections in the order i mention above.

All drives are detected and not give me issues, i can burn normal disks and I was able to burn xbox's games without issues just like i could in my old mobo, I got sometimes some issue with write speed when i try to copy files from disks to the HDDs but it turn out to be win7 bug with certain hardwares (this issue not happen when i try to copy from one HDD to another But only from ODD to HDDs and happen randomly)

But either way I never had issues with Imgburn

Then I tried to burn new xbox game (which I don't know if it legal to talk about it here since it.... well unlegal in most countries in the worlds... and people still doing it :P )

And i got errors, even after i fix it with certain app that usually make it burnable after it fix it,

new xbox games have new protection (which i'm sure most here are aware of) that in really short make the image file bigger from what it suppose to be. because of it it recommand to have a moded burner which i don't have, so i use truncate method instead which didn't failed me till now.

Now all of the sudden i got burning issue when i try to burn Old games that I already was able to burn in this method!

I tried to install some sata drivers that i didn't need in win7 (and caused me issues in win7), I tried to update the SPTD driver to the last version, I tried to rest imgburn to default options (and left the write speed on 2.4x of course) and I still got 2 type of burning issues D:

here the logs

At this point the drive suppose to open and then close itself automatically and keep burning... however nothing happening even when i try to manually open-close it.

the log show  (I think) that imgburn or explorer lose sight of the burner, However it still visible and usable in windows explorer.

I really have no idea what causing it, sound like driver issue to me but i don't sure

I use qualitative disks as you mention in your guides (though i usually use Sliver-line ot Tech) and never had single issue with them

Sorry for the very long thread, (I didn't find any "spoiler" button or any of sort or shorten the logs)

Ah sorry I didn't quite got what you tried to say...

your link lead me to the home site...

Edit

Oh you meant to this link

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showforum=6  (nvm.. seem like this link didn't meant to be posted in normal ways : P )

well either way my issue not listed there (i think) so it don't help me.. sorry :(   and thanks =)

My issue is that I WAS able to burn xbox games and now all of the sudden i can't at all, i think i have driver issues with the ODD and i need help from the admin, he may be able to pinpoint the cause of the errors

Thanks I saw what you posted in your first reply by manually find my way to that thread :headphonedance:

This thread may be made by the admin for this kind of issues but i still want his help in my thread just to be sure

since till now i had no issue in burning games for the xbox using imgburn and suddenly now I do have Even when i try to burn again the games that i already was able to burnt and verify successfully before while using the exact same burning method, I assume that i got driver issue.

I tried to burn the same game 4 times and failed while first time i burnt it it was burnt and verify successfully (and it not just this game unfortunately) , I used the same burner, same disk, and same burning method and now i keep getting errors and fail at the burn

Update firmware in drive to latest and try again http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GH22NS50/files.html

Try with some Verbatims.

Cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc or manual may help sometimes.

If nothing brings joy, maybe it's time for a new drive. The recommended one.

Thanks

my drive last update seem to be in 2010 since it old drive, don't win7 already have that update?

Also when i trid to update the firmware  (click the drive selection box and click 'Check For Firmware Updates' (or find it in 'Tools' -> 'Drive')) it tells me that i have the last update, do i still need to manually download and put the last frimware driver?

and i think i will try Verbatims, though till now i always used Tech or Silverline and i was fine (even on XGD3 games)

Win7 has nothing to do with this update. This is a drive internal update not system update.

Something maybe blocking your system to automaticaly check for firmware update so download it and try flashing the drive.

It may help or not with the discs you use but at least you are sure your drive running the latest firmware.

Ok, I updated both drives and still no luck

I will try to burn with Verbatims, but i need to get some though (didn't need them till now... as I said before Teach and Sliverline never gave me issue till now : o)

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi there, been a while,

I've tried the Verbatims and still no luck, the device just don't want to  become ready

maybe Imgburn don't properly support my Mobo/CPU since they the only two things I changed (and format after ofc) before the issue appeared

what else I can do to solve the issue?  on my old mobo everything was burnt fine =(

ImgBurn is working at a level where it doesn't know or care about your mobo/cpu.

All it needs is a system that works properly. If it isn't then it's down to your drivers etc.

Where's the log from the Verbatim discs? Please post it if you have such a thing.

Umm I think I didn't save it (unless the progrem is set to save it automatically without notify the user)

The issue was more or less the same, it either give me errors on the very start of the burn or after around 10 mins of the burn

Or either come to the " Waiting for device to become ready..." part  and won't continue no matter how much I waited, even when I tried to manually open-close the drive.

Yea but the thing is that I was able to burn this file before, not just this file but every other file that required the iXtreme Burner and such, I don't have  iXtreme Burner or any kind of burner with custom firmware But I did was able to burn those games with the right settings before (and a fix from abgx360)

So in other words I still don't have the "right" Verbatim disks?

I don't got what you said o_o

maybe IB or the burner thinks that I use other type of disks?

the link you providered don't say anything about "UMEDISC-DL1-64"

Edit

BTW

here the very last good burn I had with the total same system of one of the games I posted here before (Dead or alive 5) that I can't successfully burn anymore for some reason... (Found it in the log, thanks again ianymaty! )

I will be happy if you could have a look and tell me what been changed since then

So in other words I still don't have the "right" Verbatim disks?

Correct.

maybe IB or the burner thinks that I use other type of disks?

No. You just don't have the good ones.

the link you providered don't say anything about "UMEDISC-DL1-64"

Exactly. You have one of the cheapo MIDs there. You want / need proper Verbatim DVD+R DL discs using either the MKM-001-00 or MKM-003-00 MIDs.

The type I bought was Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5GB x8, they may didn't were the x2.4 type but they sure didn't were cheap (They even have the same box).

Also as I mention before I never had to use Verbatim DL to begin with, till now  all I used was SL or Teach DL disks and never failed in one burn of XGD3 (in my former PC at least)

All I done was to change motherboard ,cpu, and format,  and when I tried to burn XGD3 game again (Dead or alive 5)  on my new hardware it succeed, now around half year after that, while I didn't change anything in IB or in my pc I can't suddenly success in burning XGD3 games Included games that I already was ABLED to burn (such as Dead or alive 5) .

Can you please look on the log I added in my last edit and tell me what changed since then? I have the same pc and settings from that log and tried to burn with the same disks

thanks!

Did you try cleaning your drive as suggested ages ago?

The drive is reporting issues when it tries to burn to the discs so it's something between your drive/firmware/media combo.

If the proper MKM-003-00 discs don't work, get a new drive. I've yet to see a log of your G: drive with the original RICOH discs. Forget about the UME ones.

Sorry for the delay (had some stuff to do)

I didn't post the G drive since it gave me the same errors as my F drive

I've clean the drive and even use disk that clean it's eye, I will try again with other disks (will order Verbatim of 2.4 and will retry, though it hard for me to believe it the disks type right now since I even tried the same disks I used when I still was able to burn)

BTW can't I try solve it by stopping IB from redetect the drive when it reach to the second layer? there's any way to force IB to detect the drive on hardwares it may have issues to detect/redetect?

also where can I set IB to stop open-close the try when it start to burn the second layer?  it may stop it from redectet the drive

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry for the big delay, I've had alot of stuff on my head for the last months and for some reasons my Verbatim order got cancelled and I didn't really bother to got some till now (mostly because I didn't really need them as I had nothing to burn with them for a while)

I got some good news, first off the only disks I was able to get through orders were the  8x (MKM-003-00) ones (even through I ordered 2.4x ones the ones that arrived were the 8x type since they are seem to be out of stock... I think that the 2.4x type really start to vanish from here and other countries in the world... and I don't want to go as far as ordering it from overseas)

Anyway the burn success here the log:

But (yea there's still but)

I would like you to answer me on one thing:

How till today I was able to use only Teach and Silverline x8 DL disks on the total same machine and still was able to burn new games with them and only suddenly I couldn't burn new games and even games that I already was able to burn with the same disks, machine , and settings?

I didn't got the chance to test Silverline DL again with this issue but I did tested Teach and Verbatim (the bad type UMEDISC-DL1-64) and didn't success in the burn

As for the Verbatim UMEDISC-DL1-64  it understandable since as you said (and as it look) they were bad cheap type, however with the teach ones Which I was able to burnt other games and suddenly couldn't I have no idea what going on, there's any chances that Teach change their disks type to a "newer" or different type that don't work well with my hardware?

I did was able to burn Dead or alive 5 with Teach Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67

and when I suddenly got the burn issue and I tried Dead or alive 5 again with  Teach Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67 (SAME DISK)  it failed

do you know what may cause it?

Success / failure is down to your drive/firmware/media combo. If a working combo stops working then it's probably because the drive/media are starting to age and are no longer in tip top condition.

Obviously the software itself never changes and what works one day will work forever. It doesn't deteriorate over time like hardware/media can.

I see, I actually totally forgot it but I tried week before that burn to delete and reinstall IB xD

I don't think that what fix the issue but I know that now I may won't be able to burn xbox games anymore as long as this issue will keep strike

do you have any idea what I should replace? I replaced most of my pc's parts already in the last year (aside from the Drives which are actually around 4 years old) and IB never gave me a single issue, then before around half year ago (if I remember correct) I replaced the mobo and the CPU, formatted, and gave IB a test with Dead or alive and it Success, half year after and walla, issue I've never had pop up, it may be because of the mobo which is new and the drives which are old, do you know any drives that most likey will increase the success rates? (not must to be moded drive).

my drives working fine till today and are able to burn normal files without issue using nero and normal dvds and DL (as long as it not the newer xbox game ofc)

thanks
