Unable to change book type with DVD+R/DVD+DL Verbatim Disc's

I have a new burner installed: LG BH16NS40 internal 14x Blu-ray Writer

I have burn many BR disc's without issue. But when burning DVD5 or DVD9 discs I try to set the book type to Rom setting and I get an error Invalid field in CDB.  The only solution for this found in the forums is to use Verbatim Disc's. Problem is I'm using Verbatim but they now seem to be failing me. I don't know if this is a problem with this batch of disc's or with the drive. Firmware is up to date. The DVD's that I have burn do play just fine in my standalone player. But it can play those formats regardless. My concern is compatibility with other players. Like to take it to my friends and have it play without issue. I just want to go back to where everything worked fine. Here's the log:

Theres no issue with the drive. Mine can't either, probably something to so with the new type of chipset it uses. Nowadays pretty much every standalone supports DVD+r so booktype doesn't really matter anymore unless your dvdplayer is 10 years+ old
