cosmo09 Posted May 6, 2015 Share Posted May 6, 2015 My relatively new (3-months old) Blu-ray external drive (Samsung SE-506CB/RSBD) is having trouble burning dual layer Blu-ray discs. Right off the bat I had a quite high incidence of burn failures (around 10%). I wasn't happy but I ascribed it to a bad batch of media (even though I am using the discs that are considered most reliable -- Verbatim 50GB) and I thought I could live with that. However, the last five discs I tried to burn ended up in the trash, so I am suspecting something more serious. Some extra info: 1) I have tried different source files and different burn speeds. I also tried defragmenting my HD before burning. None of that made a difference; 2) Only dual layer Blu-ray discs have been failing with some regularity (and now all the time). For single-layer BD-R discs, burns have been 100% successful --which is kind of baffling to me; 3) Errors have surfaced at various stages of the burning process. A couple of times the burn seemed to be successful, but errors have been discovered during verification. I haven't been wise enough to keep all the logs for the failed burns, but please find below the latest one. Any help would be enormously appreciated. Many thanks in advance. LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 7, 2015 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Your drive is reporting a 'write error' as it tries to burn the disc, so I can only assume it doesn't like something about them. Maybe the TS02 firmware update will help? https://tsstodd.com/eng/firmware/fwdownload/?functionvalue=view&no=853 Failing that, try enabling the 'perform opc before write' option in the settings. But my hopes were crashed when I burned another disc, which failed again. Here is the log. Could you tell me if it's the same kind of error, and if you think it depends on the media I'm using? LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 8, 2015 Share Posted May 8, 2015 Yes, the drive reported another 'write error'. Although it might sound illogical, have you tried burning at 4x?
