patrickz_ny
Hi, I hope I'm doing this okay, creating a thread, as I could not add a post to an old one: Errors on burnStarted by Jimbo , Jan 19 2014 12:54 PM - but I wanted to add my information to help other people and maybe make it searchable via Google I have an old ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard and upgraded from 32 Windows XP to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit some time ago. My DVD burner is as noted, an ASUS DRW 24B1ST (ASUS firmware download program says it is up to date) Recently I have been trying to use it to burn ISO images to SONY DVD-R 'AccuCORE' 1x - 16x I've have had a large spindle a long time and they worked fine in XP. But nothing but coasters in Win 7... Very frustrating, as I had to use a 10 year old Iomega USB1 drive that only supports DVD+R - very slow, but it worked. Windows burner failed with the code 0xC0AA0301 and a Mr Fixit I found was useless. Imgburn failed with the last error: Logical Block Address out of range attached picture: Imgburn-2.5.8.0-error.jpg Then via a google search on the error: asus dvd burn "Logical Block Address out of range" I found the old thread I mentioned above. Changing Imgburn > Tools > Settings > Write > enable 'Perform OPC Before Write' fixed it! Marvelous, thank you 'Author of ImgBurn' in the UK! I am curious though - what does that setting actually do? Here is the log file from the last failure before I got success by ticking the OPC setting: ; //****************************************\\; ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 - Log; Saturday, 06 February 2016, 20:56:38; \\****************************************//;;I 20:51:02 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 20:51:02 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 20:51:02 Total Physical Memory: 8,387,128 KiB - Available: 6,220,272 KiBI 20:51:02 Initialising SPTI...I 20:51:02 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 20:51:03 -> Drive 1 - Info: ASUS DRW-24B1ST i 1.00 (Y:) (ATA)I 20:51:03 -> Drive 2 - Info: TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-H492A TB00 (Z:) (ATA)I 20:51:03 Found 1 DVD-ROM/CD-RW and 1 DVD±RW/RAM!I 20:51:34 Operation Started!I 20:51:34 Source File: G:\virtualbox\CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1511.isoI 20:51:34 Source File Sectors: 2,114,048 (MODE1/2048)I 20:51:34 Source File Size: 4,329,570,304 bytesI 20:51:34 Source File Volume Identifier: CentOS 7 x86_64I 20:51:34 Source File Application Identifier: GENISOIMAGE ISO 9660/HFS FILESYSTEM CREATOR © 1993 E.YOUNGDALE © 1997-2006 J.PEARSON/J.SCHILLING © 2006-2007 CDRKIT TEAMI 20:51:34 Source File Implementation Identifier: ISO MD5SUM = 47d6f1bdfe9ab61a3b7a9a7227639841;SKIPSECTORS = 15;RHLISOSTATUS=0;FRAGMENT SUMS = cc495d9e136c81ead92f382ef2f9d59118269d277a5cd55b91f6368991c1;FRAGMENT COUNT = 20;THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS RUNNING MD5SUM ON THIS ISO!!I 20:51:34 Source File File System(s): ISO9660 (Bootable), JolietI 20:51:34 Destination Device: [0:0:0] ASUS DRW-24B1ST i 1.00 (Y:) (ATA)I 20:51:34 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: SONY16D1)I 20:51:34 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 6x, 8x, 12x, 16xI 20:51:34 Destination Media Sectors: 2,297,888I 20:51:34 Write Mode: DVDI 20:51:34 Write Type: DAOI 20:51:34 Write Speed: MAXI 20:51:34 Link Size: AutoI 20:51:34 Lock Volume: YesI 20:51:34 Test Mode: NoI 20:51:34 OPC: NoI 20:51:34 BURN-Proof: EnabledI 20:51:34 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 22,160 KB/s (16x)I 20:51:34 Advanced Settings - Force HT: No, Online HT: No, OverSpeed: No, SmartBurn: YesI 20:51:34 CD/DVD Life Record Count: 15 - CD/DVD Record Count: 5I 20:51:35 Filling Buffer... LIGHTNING UK!
The first error is the one to look at, and that was a timeout on the logical unit. You could have also tried dropping the write speed to 8x
patrickz_ny
Thank you for the reply. I did try dropping the speed - both to 8x and 4x - both failed the same way when OPC was not clicked. Not an Imgburn test, and granted, a really bizarre test, but when trying to use it as a burner from a CentOS7 virtualbox under Win 7 Pro using Brasero: DVD-R burn was running at a rate that would take 2 days to burn a whole DVD. I also have a really, really, old Toshiba DVD-ROM / CD-RW and I tried both drives burning to a CD-R - the ASUS ran at 5.6x while the Toshiba did 15.5x both on Verbatim media. So although the ASUS is working now under Win 7 Pro and Imgburn with that OPC setting I'm going to try a new drive - ordered a Plextor from Newegg. Should have it by early next week to try it.
