AVCHD to DVD+R DL unreadable disc

I tried to burn an AVCHD file to a DVD+R DL from Verbatim in my Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-7580 burner.

I wrote the .MDS file, like I was told to do on several tutorials online. Everything was going well, and ImgBurn said that the burning was successful. But when I put it in my Blu-Ray player, the disc was unreadable. I tried playing it on the computer, and it did not work there, either.

Then I tried to verify it in ImgBurn, and at exactly 50% (probably at the layer change), I got an I/O error.

I tried this a second time, and the same thing happened again. I don't want to waste another disc, because I need all my three remaining ones.

What could the problem(s) be? Is it the burner? Is it the file? Did I download it wrong or write the wrong file? (I'm new to burning).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Assuming your drive doesn't normally have a problem reading double layer discs, you'd have to assume it did a bad job of burning the disc if it's then unreadable.

You could try burning at the other speeds the drive claims to support on that MID (MKM-003-00) and/or enabling the 'Perform OPC Before Write' option to see if that helps. Beyond that, you could try cleaning the drive with a cleaning discs or look at replacing it.

As for your BD player not playing it... well it could be that it just doesn't support AVCHD on DVD media, or at all. Some players may not like the booktype being changed to DVD-ROM, but your drive does that automatically so you're stuck.

Even with the unreadable 2nd layer, I'd still expect the device to play a 'bit' of it before failing.
