write error what should i do next?

I have gotten write errors with my first 2 discs, one at 17% the other at 48%, followed by Invalid address error. For the second try, I rebooted, ran with no other applications, no anti-virus, no firewall, no net and with a slower write speed (went down from 6x to 3x). I tried to close the second disc, but that failed too. I was able to play some of the dvd so not a total failure...

I am using verbatim 8x DVD+R DL AZO discs on my Dell xps L502x (Windows 7) with PLDS DVD -RW DS-8A5SH dvd hardware. The driver is up to date. Nearest as I can tell, the firmware is also up to date (Dell says newest firmware). When I double check at firmwarehq I get 476 matches for my drive and have no way to tell which model/manufacturer matches my hardware. (Anyone know how do I figure this out short of opening laptop?)

I only have 5 discs and have trashed 2 so I really want to get it right next time! Try different discs? The code imgburn generated for these is Taiwan MKM-003-00. (My drive says it only goes down to 3x write speed so I am not sure that I can try 2.4x discs.) Try safemode? Thanks.

It's probably the fault of the slim model drive in the laptop.  Slim models are absolute junk.  You're using the high quality Verbatim discs, so that's not the issue.

Unfortunately, the sad fact of the matter is slim model burners really are junk.  But, that's all you can get in a laptop.  Well, all you can get in ANYTHING now since they took half height bays out of a lot of modern cases now.  Short of buying a half height burner and an enclosure for it to connect to the laptop via USB, you're probably pretty much screwed.
