L-EC Uncorrectable Error

Hello everyone,

I am having problems burning xbox 360 xgd3 games (and possibly xgd2 too) with a LiteOn burner with it's firmware modified to support overburn without the need of extra software.

But I always get this L-EC Uncorrectable Error when IMGBurn tries to burn layer 1 of the disc.

As a side not, I used to burn oly xgd2 games using a LG driver without problems. But since this LG driver doesn't support overburn and can't burn xgd3 games, I decided to buy a LiteOn that according to the seller it was testes to burn xgd3 games with its firmware modified. I also always have used Elgn's Umedisc and not Verbatim's MKM-03, that's why I didn't try burning with Verbatims yet, because using umedisc always gave me positive results, so I am don't think it's because of the media that I am using.

The problem is probably this:

12:04:09 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: UMEDISC-DL1-64)

I don't know what UMEDISC is, so it may be cheap media.  Try Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD+R DL, but NOT the ones you find in brick and mortar stores.  Those are Life Series and will be CMC junk.  DataLife Plus is only found in stores online.

Well, alright, if you guys say so, but as I told in the first post:

I also always have used Elgn's Umedisc and not Verbatim's MKM-03, that's why I didn't try burning with Verbatims yet, because using umedisc always gave me positive results, so I am don't think it's because of the media that I am using.

I think this is really werid. I mean, why xgd2 games burn fine on umedisc (the brand's name is "Elgin") with a LG driver but when it comes down to using Liteon I have to burn only on Verbatim? It's weird to me because with umedisc it always worked, but alright, I'll try burning with Verbatim with this burner.

Ah, I did not read the entire post, just the log.

Well, you should always start failed burns with trying quality media first, and for DVD+R DL, the Verbatim MKM is the only quality media.  So, if the Verbatims don't magically fix the problem, then you'll know it's the drive that is the problem, most likely.  And if the Verbatims don't fix the problem, you still have some quality media to have on hand for future tests/burns with other newer drives.

I've never burned any XBox games or ever owned an XBox system so I have no personal experience with doing this.  If this is your first attempt to use a LiteOn to do this, I'd recommend something to go along with what LUK said.  I'd try a newer LiteOn drive that doesn't require special firmware/software to do the job.

Well fine but I've spent $80 bucks on this thing, so I don't want to spend any more money than I need to. I MUST make this work somehow.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I guess using Verbatim discs are "a LiteOn thing". I can't buy a pack of Verbatim discs right now so I'll update this thread in a couple of weeks from now, when I have my hands on Verbatim.

But just so I know, what are these newer LiteOn drives that can overburn xgd3 games? I only know 122 and 124 LiteOn drives, what are these new ones?

I would guess anything from LiteOn's current web site for its drives would work.  I just checked, but one thing to keep in mind is LiteOn only seems to make slim model drives now.  Slim model drives are generally junk, failing to burn all the time.
