ImgBurn 2.4.0.0 suddenly closes

Recommended Posts

Ok well I give up for tonight now!

Assuming your forum email accepts files, I'll mail you a build where you have to 'ok' each of the 3 TOC related commands in the morning and we'll take it from there.

Night!

Okay, will wait for the files...

Out of curiosity what firmware was in the drive b4 you updated to 1.05

1.03. And before that 1.01 (stock firmware which came with my drive)

Upgraded to 1.05 since it gave me better performance with dvdrws.

Did you read this about not updating 1.03 firmware with 1.05

Readme

GSA-H55L Version 1.05 Firmware Update

To update the firmware of the GSA-H55L please refer to the following instructions:

Note: Not following the subsequent update instructions explicitly will result in

permanent damage to your drive, for which LG will not be responsible.

This firmware update is for drives with original firmware versions below 1.03.

The drives must be original LG branded drives with the DVD Writer model number

GSA-H55L(no OEM units).

If you have an OEM unit, branded with another manufacturers name,

please contact that manufacturer for support and firmware updates.

This firmware update is for use only on PC¡¯s with Windows Vista, Windows XP,

Windows 2000.

¡Ø Critical Instructions: (to be followed carefully)

1. Connect the drive as¡°master¡±by it self, on the secondary IDE controller

with no other device on the same IDE cable, making note to set the jumper

on the back of the drive to the¡°master¡±position.

2. Download the file GSA-H55L_1.05(EW).ZIP to a folder of your choice.

This download includes this¡°Read me(ew)¡±text file,

as well as the GSA-H55L_1.05.EXE program, which will auto-update your drive's firmware.

3. Close all other programs including: screen saver, antivirus and/or power-down programs.

(If these programs are not closed, they will try to engage the PC,

during the update process, thus interrupting the update and damaging the drive).

4. Check the drive to ensure that there is no disk in the tray before you start

the update procedure.

5. Go into the folder with the update file and double click the GSA-H55L_1.05.EXE program

and click the ¡°update¡± button. Once the update is complete,

you will see ¡°Firmware Update Complete¡± and then advise you to reboot the system.

You will need to reboot your PC.

The update will be complete, after you reboot your system.

WARNING: Do not open any programs or start any system functions during the update,

as they will interfere with data transfer and damage the drive.

Do not cancel the operation once it has been started or the drive will

become permanently damaged, as a result.

[Edit] Looks more like a case of strange wording from LG as the 1.03 firmware update read me says

This firmware update is for drives with original firmware versions below 1.02.

The drives must be original LG branded drives with the DVD Writer model number

GSA-H55N(no OEM units).

The more I read it the more it makes no sense :D

@LIGHTNING UK! : After clicking OK after the last box...

imgburn02sa0.th.jpg

The build you sent me suddenly closes. As for log (*.cgl) files, there was none generated...

Next thing to try is running it in winbdg as mentioned in a previous post.

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/deb...installx86.mspx

Load up windbg and click 'File' -> Open Executable.

Point it to the one I just sent you.

You'll then see some stuff scroll in the window and it'll appear to pause.

Click the 'Debug' menu and then 'Go'.

ImgBurn should then load up.

Go into Read mode and insert your disc.

Hopefully it'll then capture some sort of error.

How about a copy of the windbg log?

The cgl shows everything is fine, it hasn't logged any errors.

My mistake, it was a cgl file that was created before I used windbg wherein I didn't load any cds and just exited imgburn.

I really need the entire thing, sorry!

No cgl was generated the 2nd time I ran imgburn inside windbg.

Not the cgl, the entire log from windbg.

It should contain loads more info than that.

It lists where all the various modules/dll are loaded into the memory address space. Then the bit where it crashes should list the address that crashed and hopefully it'll match with one of those modules.

I'm pretty certain the crash isn't inside ImgBurn's own code.

I can't even reproduce it under Win 95 / NT4 and everything crashes on that! lol

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

Just for info, I've been using ImgBurn for a while now, great great program.

I just upgraded to the latest version (2.4.2.0) and I'm seeing the exact same problems as is highlighted here.

I have two DVD+-RW drives (both DVD-RAM capable) and when trying to create an ISO from a CD, the program just disappears. DVDs work OK.

DVD Drives are:

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B (A106)

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183L SB01 (SCSI)

Could you try doing what post #32 says?

By the way, there's firmware SB03 available for your SH-S183L burner. Remove any disc and close the tray before updating, then reboot after it has finished.

No idea, sorry.

Reinstall Windows.

Inspired response.

Seriously?

I think instead of re-installing windows, I'll just re-install an older version of Imgburn. That whould work too.

Shane.

Decompress the exe using UPX and then try it.

You might have some low level tool (AV/spyware/adware monitoring etc) installed that sees the UPX compression in the exe file and thinks it's something nasty.

The program has a lot of error catching stuff built in so it's hard to get any sort of error within the code and the user not then get an error message on the screen. It would have to be really bad for it to just vanish from memory without an ImgBurn error OR a Windows one.
