What ever burn speed I select, ImgBurn will write 2 speeds below it. Ex: When I select "8X" burn speed, this is what I get: " I 18:30:51 Average Write Rate: 5,548 KB/s (4.0x) - Maximum Write Rate: 8,662 KB/s (6.3x)".

These are the blank disc's I am using:

roll back the ide driver to the default xp sp2 one

I have the deluxe model of that asus mobo and the driver from asus is old and buggy. Some of my 12 x burns took 15 minutes???

Course I had a bad sil 3112 driver on top of that.

The 3520 is in my closet. It was in my second PC but, that PC blew up. So I took out everything that was salvageable and chunked the rest in the trash.

I'll try to roll back the drivers chewy. :)

I watched it today while I was burning. It gets to 4.1X by 4%. From there it reaches 6.2X at %35, then goes back down to 4.1X around %40 and stays there until it is finished. Even though I selected 8X speed.

Here is the log:

time for a clean install, load windows xp sp2 and then go into device manager and only deal with yellow exclaimation marks

That's what I did!

there is one other option, disconnect the slave and reflash as standalone master in safe mode

try option 2 first, it's easier!

Maybe WOPC is kicking it back down? I guess that would mean the firmware isn't so good for doing 8x burns on that media - or rather 6x if that's were it's dropping back down.

Look at the write speed graph via dvdinfopro. You can even post it up here so we can take a look too ;)

Well, this is wierd.

It started out the same as before. Although, it took until like %40 percent before it would go past 4.1X but, it got all the way up 8.4X by the end.

_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A 1.W8

Is that hacked firmware jmet ? I just wondered if your results are more consistent with the stock NEC firmware ?

Yea it is.........I get all my NEC firmware from here: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/

(I re-installed the same firmware again, and I installed the NEC 3520 in this PC. I will try later on testing them. Right now I am installing all the software for my PC, as I just got done reformatting.)

This computer intially had 1 stick of Corsair 512MB of RAM.

I bought another stick of that same RAM for my second PC (which I no longer have). I ended up giving that stick to my mother cause she only had a 128MB stick in her Dell.

My brothers Compaq PC crashed on him so I robbed a 512MB stick from it.

I then put the 512MB Compaq and the Dell 128MB stick along with my Corsiar 512MB stick.

I learned the hard way not to mix RAM. It won't happen again. lol
