Hi all.

I have big problem with my SH S222AB dvd burner (F/W : SB00, OEM CODE: 0 )

Following steps:

-Setting I0

-Writing Lead In

-Synchronising Cache

-Finalising Disc

Takes few minutes to complete, and after verifying disc, there are CRC errors on layer 2 (1).

My Disc's: Verbatim 8,5GB DVD +RW DL

There's a firmware update available for the drive.

http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SH-222AB/files.html

2.4x isn't a valid speed for that drive/firmware/media combo so it's using 4x.

That might not be the optimal speed so if the firmware alone doesn't fix it, try using the remaining supported write speeds.

Service pack 1 is out for Windows 7 now.

Your controller drivers are preventing the booktype command from working - look at installing updated/better ones.

thank you for your reply! :)

There's a firmware update available for the drive.

I can't update my drive... i've got "can't find suitable drive for F/W"

i think that this is problem with my OEM Code?:

image.png

There should be : SB instead of 0

After manual flashing (extract .bin file from .exe updater and flashing DVD Burner through Dosflash, my drive won't read any Disc's, so i flashed back my SB00 Backup

anyway , nowi can read dvd and cd drives fine. (uff)

i will try this.

DVD burner is connected through VT 6421A Controller. i dont know where i can find newest Drivers :(

Anyway after Installing SP1, i still have the same problems

That's weird. Logically, SB01 follows on from SB00.

SP1 for Windows 7 is Installed.

Not according to that log it isn't.

Can you put the drive on a proper controller (motherboard one) rather than through the VIA card?

I didn't expect it to solve this issue, it just needed doing anyway.

No, because i don't have SATA ports on my motherboard :innocent:

my SH S222AB version is OEM

Not according to that log it isn't

oh that log is old :P, but after installing SP1 i have the same problems (step by step)

And when "Setting L0 Capacity"/Writing Lead In" i heard strange sounds (retries?) from my dvd Burner :shifty::wacko:

maybe these problem's is caused because i have Laser from SH S222A?? but why i can read all DVD's and CD's fine?

Most other Samsung drives (in fact, most drives full stop) use a different firmware naming scheme for OEM drives. Like you might have SB00 and ST00 or something. It avoids confusion and nobody could be blamed for thinking SB01 should/would update a drive running SB00.

No SATA ports and you're running Windows 7 on it?!

That's a weird hardware/software combination!

Anyway, back to your original problem... all you're left with is changing the write speed and hoping the drive does a better job.

If it doesn't, write it off and get yourself another one. A drive that can't burn the best DL media available isn't really worth keeping.

(This is of course assuming your discs aren't to blame - perhaps try some discs from another spindle of Verbatims)

oh because my new PC is broken and now i am using old one (dell gx 260)

my previous drive (SH S222A) works very nicely on this crap

doesn't work, now im getting write errors <_<

PS maybe this is a problem?

The 'RAID' bit is just what the VIA card drivers are reporting. It doesn't really mean anything but it can give an indication that the drive isn't connected to an optimal controller - optical drives don't like operating on a RAID card (commands get blocked etc).

It shouldn't have anything to do with why your drive isn't producing readable discs or why it's taking forever to perform certain tasks.
