Hello. I am using imgburn 1.1 and I am burning DV-Disks That's Tayio yuden 8x, in a drive BenQ 1240.
I am burning large .img files (about 4GB full DVD movie), which I got from the web.
I have been recently advised to replace old installation of DVDDecrypter by imgburn, and I have read around the web in reviews that my drive (BenQ 1240) is one of the best around and the disks I am using are also top ranked.
However if I don?t set the burn speed to 2x, the burning is not successful at least half of the times. I mean that even if I set it to burn speed 4x, half of the times the burning progress stops at 70-80%
I am defragging every night my PC (with O&O soft) and also I am cleaning System Registry and Junk Files with Ace Optimizer Utilities.
Also the burning of *.wav, *.mp3 and *.avi files to CD or DVD are always successful, even at max speed, as well as the simple copy procedure (two identical disks on the fly).
I thought that you may know what could be wrong and direct me accordingly. I guess that it could be the quality of img file I have downloaded (corrupted) but I am not sure; is there any way that I can verify this?

Show us a log of you actually burning something. It's handy if we can see the error.

The content of the file is irrelevant. The drive just sees it as data, it doesn't know/care what it is.
The program itself works fine with the drive, I have a 1640 myself that I perform testing with - that said, I'm running BSOB firmware.
So... update your firmware and try again.

Please tell me how to update the firmware.
The windows XP are fully updated and last weekend I downloaded/updated my BIOS with the latest beta update. I thought that I don?t update the drives ? only the BIOS.

Firmware is what controls your drive and contains commands that allow programmers like Lightning_UK! to "talk" to the drive. UpdatingPlease tell me how to update the firmware.

your firmware ensures that the latest commands supported by your drive may be accessed as well as ironing out possible bugs
in the drive itself. (The Pioneer 120 is a good example of a shit drive with shit firmware).
Updating is pretty easy.
1. Open ImgBurn
2. Right click on your drive and select "Check for firmware updates" from the menu
3. Take note of the firmware version in the requester. In my case it's v1.58
4. Check the results against the available firmware for your drive. Ignore hacked firmware for the time being
. As you can see where I've badly circled below, v1.58 is the latest firmware version for this drive.
If your firmware is older than what is displayed, save the firmware file and then run it. If it's the same or newer, don't bother. Hope it helps.

Presently I am at the office and I only have a CD-RW here. I did a test to update firmware of the CD-RW, as you indicated and I got an error, that the specified string could not be found.
Of course I will try it from home PC in the afternoon, where the Benq1640 is and I will revert.

Look at the 'Supported Write Speeds' bit in the information panel on the right.
Your drive/firmware/media combination is the limiting factor.
The program will always try to set the drives speed to the one you tell it to. It's up to the drive to use that speed or one that it DOES actually support.

Maybe they're fake TY discs?!
I can't imagine the real thing bombing out on you all the time like that.
I'll raid my cupboard and see if I've got any with that media id, and then try burning a few of them myself.

Maybe they're fake TY discs?!
I can't imagine the real thing bombing out on you all the time like that.
I'll raid my cupboard and see if I've got any with that media id, and then try burning a few of them myself.
To tell you the true, I was ready to ask this. I got these disks about 2 months ago, from the only official Taiyo Yuden reseller in Athens.
I used to buy white-color DVDs but last time I got the yellow ones because they were cheaper. I don?t have any on me now, but I will take a pix of the disk when I am at home and I will upload it here.
Because I am really curious about this I am going to buy the previous disks soon to test.

I've been through all my spindles and didn't find any TYG02's
I've got some old TYG01's and some Yunden000-T03-00... they're about the closest.
