Okay, so I bought CoD4 from Direct2Drive.com about 2 weeks ago. When I first downloaded it, I was unable to activate the product for some unknown reason. After several failed attempts with their support staff to rectify the issue, I finally made one last ditch effort rather then have them refund me the money I paid. I reformatted my PC. After doing this, I re-downloaded the game and reinstalled. This time it activated without issue.

So what did I do next? I went off and started reinstalling all my old programs. Everything worked fine until I installed Nero. At that point, my stopped loading. No errors, no messages, just nothing. So I started doing some research and found out that CoD4 has SecuROM with it. SecuROM has a thing for burning and/or emulating software. So, I figured, "okay...I'll just remove Nero." No good. Still nothing. So I bit the bullet and reformatted again. Now the game works fine.

So here's my question: I was told by someone on another forum (TomsHardware.com) that ImgBurn may not cause fits with SecuROM like Nero does. I can understand if I had Daemon Tools or something installed, but a completely legit version of Nero causes it to stop my game from playing? I literally only use Nero to backup photos of my family to CD or DVD. If I intend to play my game though, I can't have any burning software installed. So what do I do, then?

So, if someone can elaborate and tell me whether or not ImgBurn will work and not cause SecuROM to end my CoD4 playing experience and cause me to reformat for the 3rd time and as many days, that'd be stellar!

Seems to me that the only people ever effected by this DRM stuff are those the purchase legit copies of game and not those that pirate it. Just seems like more trouble then it is worth if you ask me.

If you install Nero Image Drive the securom program might not like it.

ImgBurn is just an exe so it can't mess anything up.

From what I'm reading, ImgBurn is also a better program as well. Is this true? I know, that question is kind of subjective, but it'd make me feel better to hear someone say it.

It all depends on what you're after.

If you need all the extra stuff that Nero provides (conversion etc), obviously you'll favour Nero. If you just want a relatively simple burning tool, ImgBurn has some nice features.

No, I'm simply looking to backup my photos with a very simple and user friendly program. The reason I've been using Nero is simply because my DVD/RW came with a copy of it and it's all that I have ever known. It's worked well for me until I bought CoD4. Since I really don't know what you mean by conversion, I can safely assume that it is something I don't use.

I'm going to dive in head first and give this a try. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that after installing, CoD4 still works. :)
