So heres the deal. My drive shows up as Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P in a HP Pavilion dv6629wm part of the dv6000 series. HP support has no solution for me. There are no firmware updates, and firmware that i have found pretty much kills the drive. I have tried several types of media including verbatim. The drive will burn cds dvd+r and reads everything just fine. I also have a Pavilion dv6626us it to has a DVD+DL burner which works. When i take that drive that works and put it in this laptop it still works. This one that doesnt burn DL when swaped will still not burn DL disks. I have cleaned the laser lens properly. I have never been able to burn a DL disk and the computer is about 6 months old. here is a log from imgburn.

Now this isnt the only application that does this; Nero, deepburn, roxio... the list goes on and on. any help, suggestions, or even if someone has some firmware i will take it. I have spent hours on google looking for something, anything to help me. I have not even come close to fixing this. LiteOn has no support either. Iv tried reinstalling Vista, i had my system downgraded to XP and the same thing.

Attached are the errors i get. the first one when i click try again it just pops up again over and over. when i hit continue the second error pops up. I am totaly out of ideas so im up for anything. Buying a new one is a last resort but i'll do what i gotta do if its busted.

Can you provide the log from when you've tried with Verbatim media?

No need to burn another disc to get the log as the logs are already on your PC...go to Tools -> Imgburn logs. The Verbatim burn will list your media as MKM001 or MKM003 depending on which Verbatims you were using.

Have you tried with Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) Made in Singapore blanks? A log from one of such burns also would help.
