I already posted something like this on my previous post but nobody responded and that wasn't the right part of this forum to post it on eitherway lol.

But anyways, if DVDs have the 99-title protection, it should be possible to implement this feature into ImgBurn, where it's similar to the Optimize Duplicate Files feature, but for the DVD-Video format. Here, it would allow you to select which files to use different sectors and also the opposite, where it is which ones to use a duplicate sector so it doesn't really affect the space. Below this is an example:

I also would want to add a feature where you can change the imp ID, such as to Daikin U.S. Comtec Lab, instead of the usual, ImgBurn.

RAW-DAO 96 burning support

AFAIK CloneCD and Alcohol are the only programs that could burn images that required specific subchannel data in RAW mode.

There's still interest in burning these types of discs (as you can see here: https://github.com/Kippykip/SBITools).

I know it's a long shot, considering Imgburn development seems halted for over a decade, but I would like to leave the suggestion here in case there's a change of heart 😅

It's 2025, the state of optical media software is depressing. Yet there's still a light shining. ImgBurn, while it hasn't seen a release in over 10 years, is still a great piece of software that works well, and is feature complete (for now). The last 10 - 15 years have seen a terrible shift with software. For some odd reason you have to now release a new version of your product every week in order to be considered 'normal' and 'alive'. Back in my day, we received a new version every 2-4 years and we were happy with it. No need to be nagged with "updates" evey time you launch a program.

I expect a renaissance in optical media soon. As people begin to (finally) realize that the "Cloud" isn't all that great, and the desire to actually own what you paid for starts to take a strong hold in people's minds.

What can be done to show the world that while there are no releases, ImgBurn is still as great as other projects that release a new version every few weeks for the sake of just releasing?

technology can only improve the layering for dvd r's so much.

sooner or later imgburn is going to have to make the jump to removable media. i've used the program forever and once in a while i run across operating systems that are bigger than 4.7 gb. i don't like the other image burning programs, because the turn the media into a bootable drive. even with 3.0 usb it's not an efficient drive, especially for crypto purposes. my profits increased 8%, as a reference on efficiency, from usb stick to m2 drive. so it would be great if the program wasn't flashed to a thumb drive permanently. granted debian based o.s's aren't as stupid as windows for size, but some of the crypto o.s.'s are getting close. if imgburn can burn to a smaller thumb drive i'd accept that, but i haven't seen anything that would teach me how when i've looked.

Adding dummy file over layer break (Blu-ray)

Problem :
When writing dual-layer (and triple as well, I guess) Blu-rays the layer break is always at the edge of the disc.

This isn't Imgburn's "fault", it's just the way BD are written I guess. But the edges have worse quality in general, and it's not uncommon to have a "spike" in reading layer break.

Solution? :
Adding a quite large "dummy file" before, during and after layer break helps putting important files further away from edge of disc. If burning 35GB I'd rather have a 10+ GB dummy file at the edge.

I do this manually when burning important Blu-ray discs by adding a large file. Imgburn seems to burn files alphabetically and by putting, say, large dummy-file 00004b.m2ts in the STREAM-folder I get the layer break in this file while all the movies/episodes have no issue. More than once I've later had read errors on the dummy file while all others have worked fine. (I have several burners, they do work well, but media quality these days...)

I'm thinking of writing a little script to automate this on folders before I burn, but I think it would be nice if burn programs included possibility of dummy file to enhance quality/readability of important files.

file size/free space display

Would it be possible to put in the settings (or on the GUI) an option to toggle all the file size/free space/image size dislpays between >bytes>Mbytes>Gbytes. I think it would make things easier for some, especially for the newbies who don't know to divide by 1024. Plus it's easier to make your target disc size at a glance when doing backups.

Is (or will it be) the source code available at any time? Given the fact that the software works fine, but hasn't received a single change in years (last release is more than 3 years old) we can assume that the software is mature enough.

As a side question, if the code won't be available, is there any chance for this to be ported to linux and or mac?

Hi! ImgBurn newbie here

Since this is my first time using the program I've been looking for tips when burning different types of discs, these are usual recommendations that I've found and I would like to know if I'm on the right track and if these settings are safe to use:

*The recommended speed for burning DVDs and Blu-Rays is 4x as using the lowest speed or above 4x is not safe. However, I've read that for M-Disc the recommended speed is 2x, should I use that one or 4x is sufficient?

*Before burning, it is better to convert the data to an .iso and burn it,
or can I just drag up data the data and move it to the blank disc and then burn it?

*When burning double layered DVDs, you have to set the "layer break" to 1913760, is that correct?

*I've read that you have to select UDF over ISO9660 as there might be some issues
when reading discs on Windows 7, which UDF should I pick: 2.60 or 2.50?

*I have some music files named with special characters like "？" , will there be an issue with those files
after burning? For non-unicode file names is there something that I need to keep in mind?

*For blanks, Verbatim seems the best choice, but do Sony's have good quality as well?
For DVDs, should I pick DVD-R or DVD+R?

*And this might be off-topic and kinda a dumb question but for labeling discs can I use a marker like Sharpie or it has to be a special one? I've read that for DVDs and Blu-Rays it's fine if you use a sharpie but for CD-Rs is not recommended because the ink can pass through the layer and damage the data, is that true?

That's what I've gathered so far, are there other useful tips that I'm missing?

Echo error text that appears in pop up windows into the Log

When an operation error occurs during an ImgBurn function, a pop up window opens with detailed error codes, etc. about the error. The way it stands now, the user must take a screenshot of these windows to gather troubleshooting information.

I was thinking, if it's possible, to pipe these errors codes, etc. that appear in the pop up windows into the Log. That way, a person can copy and paste the error information from the Log, which is easier. As it stands, there is sometimes an error line in the Log, but if there is, it's nowhere near as detailed as the error windows that pop up.

In lieu of piping the errors into the Log, I have another idea worth pursuing. Add some kind of button or function in the error pop up windows that display error information and let the user save a copy of the window/perform a screenshot from within the error window itself. That way, the user doesn't have to take the extra steps themselves to generate screenshots.

Lock files until they are copied

The option to lock files until they are copied would be very useful. I made a bonehead mistake and deleted a file that IMGBurn was in the process of burning (along with many other files) and a little while later IMGBurn reported that the file didn't exist. Totally my fault, but having that option would have saved the day. [note: the file I deleted was very large so Windows doesn't stick it in the recycle bin but permanently deletes it]

p.s. I see that the latest version of IMGBurn is about 10 years old, so the chances of this feature being added are probably slim, but one can always hope!

One advantage is that if you use the MSIX format, limited user accounts can install it.

it can read and decompress flac , ape, ACC , mp3 and so on , I guess all of them

Batch Read - Auto Name Imported Files Based on a Text File or CSV

I would love it if the batch read feature had the ability to rename the ISOs based on a list in a text file. Discs often have the same or similar names and it makes it nearly impossible to reference back to the original disc if needed. Often time, I want to rename the ISO to the name that was on the disc, but in most cases, the ISO has a generic name like, "DVD_VIDEO" which makes it impossible to figure out which disc it came from without reviewing the content in the ISO and comparing it to the discs.

layer break colors

I'd like to suggest the option of assigning the colors of the layer break stars. I suffer from a condition where my eyes often fail to distinguish between the layer breaks other than the blue one. I've searched the settings for such an option without success and if it exists please let me know.

The ability to select these colors would enhance this terrific application.

Import/Export settings

I suggest some kind of Import and Export settings under Tools. While one can export or import the Registry key with the ImgBurn settings, you have to know how to find them, and not all users will have that knowledge. A simple function under Tools to import or export the Registry key would be useful for the average user. Or even just an Export function to export the Registry key as the user can then just double click on the exported .REG file to add the settings themselves.

While the problem can be trivially solved by adjusting binary compatibility properties, it would be nice if ImgBurn can detect 100%+ DPI settings and adjust accordingly.

Security Review

I love IMGBurn and was trying to use it at work but it doesn't pass a security review as they could not find a privacy policy, it hasn't been updated in ages and was classified as a potentially unwanted application by sever AV Vendors..... Sad... I use it at home all the time and always recommend the app to everyone!

Please let the App survive this tough world lol... Close some of these gaps and give me some warm fuzzys.

Linux port suggestion

While I don't particularly use Linux, unless it's absolutely necessary, I've always had a pet peeve of not getting any decent disc writer on Linux.

Is there any particular way the team could develop a Linux port, instead of having to use Wine? (which I've tried, and got stuck on the splash screen)

Adding Create CCD option to Tools?

Is there a way to create a .CCD file from a BIN/CUE set? I see there isn't a Create CCD option in Tools like there is for CUE, MDS, and DVD. Is it possible to create a CCD file from a BIN/CUE set so it can be used with Virtual CloneDrive or must CCD be created from a disc at the time it is read in Read mode?

It may not be possible because I've noticed when .CCD file generation is enabled in ImgBurn, the file output format is .IMG.

Option in settings to warn if detected speed of USB burner is < USB 2.0

I had a fluke with a burn I made today where the Device Buffer was barely filling and the burn went very slow (would have taken four hours so I cancelled it). Checked the logs against the log made during a successful burn yesterday with the same discs. Turns out my external usb 2.0 drive was detected as usb 1.1 for some reason (suspect it happened when I had it in sleep). Disconnecting the drive and plugging it back in fixed the issue and I was able to burn normally though sadly I made a coaster out of a DVD-DL disc.

Perfect backup solution - read/write offset acquired

Guys, you know EAC has read/write offset correction, and we use it to create perfect backups of albums.

But it can't be used to backup old game discs with audio tracks: It has no mixed mode CD support, neither does CD extra.

The alternative solution is to use ImgBurn, but it has no offset currection and make the backup LESS perfect.

Is it possible that ImgBurn will have offset correction, making it a perfect disc backup maker?

I was thinking of a Clone Disc button for real beginners. What Clone would do is read a disc to an image file, then automatically eject the disc, load the image for writing, and ask for insertion of a writable disc for burning.

Retro Media Verifier - Read Checker

I have used ImgBurn for a few years now for checking if my purchased PlayStation and playstation 2 discs. are completely readable.

and recently discovered the Sega Dreamcast / Saturn reads too. - I create IMG from DISC, and if it reads 100% and creates a file, the disc is good !!!

if the read errors start at 67% - I know it's scratched and not completely playable.

- and after a month or two had no HDD space left - had to go delete them - lmao. (

could you add more ? xbox, 360, ps3, GameCube, Wii ? ( I have Pioneer BD-ROM BDC-202 )

- or make a standalone with the option to not save the image created. - I'll purchase it !
