  1. If anyone's around, bearing in mind the 2 mediatypes I'm using, which of the following drives would best suit me Pioneer ADR-215 or Optiarc AD 7200S - yes, decided to go sata, and put the burner in a dedicated box
  2. ah, I see what you mean - thought it was the overburn(speed) that was letting them show available at 18x and 20x. Well I've no intention of burning them at that speed, I like my compatability. The 4x burn worked perfectly, tried another at 8x and bang, failed verification, doing another at 4x now, then I'll give up and only use this drive for the DL
  3. they're badged as 16x, I'd already read on several forums that the optiarc supports overburn on several media, obviously these included, now burning at 4x to see, if not, back to the Pioneer for these, and keep this drive for my DL

  8. First log with SP3 I've seen - hope it's not related to SP3. on this machine, the optical is primary master, with hdd on primary slave, secondary master, secondary slave - the way the setup has always been, all drive are set to CS with 80pin IDE cables. The other box - the one I also tried when I got the errors had the odd on an ide channel of it's own - again CS, on the master of the cable. That box was using 2.4.1.0, just not got around to updating this one, but will do that now - for purposes of elimination. The other box is running 2KSP4 so again, not likely to be down to SP3 I think - and as I said, the "questionable" DL media is working fine, just this issue with the Verb SL not verifying - I know they're not the tiptop singapore ones, but still.....
  9. Good burn, bad verify - looks like the speed issue resolved itself, but still this prob with the verbs, I can see myself needing to put them in the Pioneer I 21:21:23 ImgBurn Version 2.4.0.0 started! 10. The source stuff - you are burning - is that on a physical disc on the computer or some sort of network drive? To me it looks as the transfer rate from that source disc might be the problem. no probs with the edits Cynthia - that buffer problem was me stupidly trying to do an sfv check, while un-rarring, while burning. Doesn't normally happen, and isn't the reason for the speed or verification problem - just happens to be the last log. the source was an extracted Video_ts folder on the hard drive

  12. lol, no probs, and I see that it doesn't show if a mod edits their post - as my quote of Cynthia shows, thanks for the turn off
  13. I joined about a month or so ago - are you talking about the post moderation?
  14. post moderation is painful. lol. I replied the minute you posted, but half hour later, it's still to show hmm, that one showed up right away - so to "queue-jump", thanks again for the welcome and reply, Yes dma4 is enabled, yes, I installed 1.05 when I got the drive - it was 1.03, and yes I'm sure I keep selecting 8x but it burns at 4x - just as with the DL I select 2.4x but it burns at 4x
  15. Hi Cynthia, thanks for the welcome and the reply - yes I installed 1.05 when I installed the drive- was on 1.03. I thought I did say that I selected 8x burn, but it went ahead and burned at 4x anyway. Likewise with the DL, selected 2.4x but it burns at 4x
  16. Hi guys, could do with your input and help. It's not a problem with imgburn itself, I know that. I WAS getting major problems with my DL media - Datawrite 8x DVD+R DL [RICOHJPN-D01-67] I was using a Pioneer 110D - and started getting regular issues with burns failing to verify at around 52 to 64%. I replaced the drive - with a brand new spare of the same drive. I completely reinstalled windows and had nothing else on it but imgburn. I even put the burner in a whole other system to eliminate any possible motherboard, memory, processor, harddrive, psu, cable, etc issues. I finally decided that although the media isn't the best, it's certainly better than a 35% failure rate out of 2 25 tubs, which is what I was getting, so I figured that it must be a "compatability" issue due to the age of my Pioneers. So off I went, and came back with a nice new Optiarc AD 5200-A. First thing I noticed was that my media was now ABLE to be burned at 8x - but I was happy with the Pioneer's 2.4x for compatibility. The optiarc wouldn't burn at 2.4 even though it let me select it in imgburn, but burned at 4x - Hopefully this will be fine for me, and certainly speeded up the burn process - and the verification, thanks to it reading back at around 12x instead of 4x. SUCCESS!!!, my DL burns went from 35% failure, to 0%. 10 from 10 so far Now comes the problem though, I went to burn an SL disc, using Verbatim 16x DVD-R [MCC 03RG20] imgburn tells me nicely that it can be burned at 4x,6x,8x,12x,16x,18x,20x - impressive as it's labelled 16x media. I select 8x to give me my usual compatibily and some reasonable speed. However, it only burns at 4x, and then FAILS verification after 20 odd percent This just about floored me, I'm using the "gospel" media, and a decent burner, and I get problems - what gives? Maybe I need to go back to my Pioneer for my DVD5 and just stick to DL with the optiarc? I'm happy with my Datawrite media - it's about the third the price of Verbs, but got a deal on the Verb SL so have another 70 or so discs left/ Anyone had similar problems, or have any ideas what's going on with the speed selection issue or any idea why the cheap media works, but the Verb doesn't?
  17. the 1.22 I used was a homebrew modified one, First burns are still fine, whether single or dual layer, it's subsequent burns that are still causing the problems, but the fw did cure the compatability problems I was having before
  18. thanks for the welcome, and the advice. I was using 1.41, but downgraded to 1.22 for a compatability issue. The problem was still there. Also it's not just the media, as DL media is also affected. I'm not saying it couldn't be the burner, but why would it not affect the first burn. I'm thinking it's more likely to be a memory leak or cache problem, but don't know how to check this, or where to look. Any further help would be much appreciated
  19. Hi guys, I'm having major issues with second burns. My first burn goes fine, but a subsequent one always fails, it's caused a pile of coasters, and each time I've ended up having to either shut the app down, or the machine, as the drive either hangs, or says invalid media or somesuch. Verification has also been problematic - on cycling the drawer and verifying, it reports the invalid media or whatever the message is, but the disc works fine upon checking elsewhere. I've been using dvddecrytor for years, and also have ashampoo, nero, clone and alcohol installed - these apps are also giving me problems, but most aren't even making the first burn. So I'm guessing it's not the app at fault, but would appreciate advice as to what is causing the second burn to fail every time. logs included below and as you can see, even closing the app in between doesn't cure it I 17:53:27 ImgBurn Version 2.4.0.0 started!
