  1. I just happened to randomly come across a branch in the Registry that DVDInfo apparently uses. Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, the incredibly oddly named ?=K  Wouldn't have even known what it was save for the ExePath of "...DVDInfo.exe" "%1" My guess is it's supposed to represent an Emoticon of some sort?

  2. Anyone know of a SIMPLE way to add and change Environment variables in XP? Thus far, the only ways I have found are far more complicated than they need to be. But, this IS Microsoft we are talking about here, so, it's probably IMPOSSIBLE to do it any other way. Seems to me the only ways are to either do it in through System in Control Panel, which means opening a menu and several sub menus, change/add them, and sometimes REBOOT the entire damn system! (Who knows? Logging off may work, too.) The Command Prompt is relatively useless because once it's closed, any SETs made are conveniently forgotten. So, the only way to do that is to always have a Command Prompt open, eating away at resources.

  3. This reminded me of when I made my own Special Weapons Dalek from one of the Dapol creme and gold ones. It was a simple affair: I just removed the motor and wheel assembly to better move the Dalek around and then replaced the bottom again. I removed the bar holding the two arms on the front, turned it the opposite direction for a flat surface, glued a gun I cut off from an Octo-Bot Spider-Man Doctor Octopus figure from Toy Biz to the bar, and reinserted it. Lastly, just removed the eye piece and called it the SWD Mark II. :) Because of the different shape, different gun, different "eye," a slat in place of a plate, the fact that it had dome lights, and was clean. :)

  4. Interesting! A site especially devoted to the Abomination. ;)

I'll just cover what you didn't. :) Aliases the Doctor has used with Doctor in them: Doctor Who, Dr. W (If you've ever played Mega Man, it takes on a new meaning! :o) Doctor Caligari, and Doctor Werr.

The Special Weapons Dalek was originally supposed to be a floating weapons platform manned by many Daleks. It was designed after Skeletor's floating platform from the live action He-Man movie. However, the budget basically said, "You can have your Dalek platform, but, we will have to remove the entire cliffhanger sequence with Ace in the school. Oh, and, we're not entirely sure we CAN make the Dalek platform." So, the decision was made to go with what they knew they could they do: breaking glass, stunts, explosions, and laser effects. Thus, the Dalek platform became a singular engine of destruction, which, I thought, was probably the better idea.

    The supposed animation cel: http://www.skaro.org/cel.jpg

  5. I remember when that footage was pitched on American TV by the guy who played Riker of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The autopsy IS real people! The hoax is that the alien itself set it up. The body being dissected is actually a human dressed up as an alien. Aliens were in disguise as the doctors, and that alien was filming it the entire time. Then, the footage was dropped off and they've spent the rest of the intervening time laughing the triple buttocks off at us. Yes, you guessed it... ANOTHER job by the Venusians! :shifty:

  6. No, it's real, but, the site makes the common mistake most associated with bogyphobia. Bogyphobia is the fear of Humphrey Bogary movies, that you're stalked by Bogart, or that you are gradually turning into Bogart.

  7. I was going to ask about Rose, "ENTIRELY filmed outside England?" :)

As for the Looney Tunes, I believe the writer was trying to be clever by half and ended up being 1/4 confusing instead. Robby The Robot and Kevin McCathy's character from Invasion Of The Body Snatchers also showed up.

Of course, the most confusing Dalek cameo is in The Enemy Within movie, because they accidentally sped up their voices. Although, the Pakinstani Dalek sketch is a close contender. Along with, apparently, the Brokeback Daleks. ;)

As for the Doctor's nickname, I was always a little confused over that. In The Armageddon Factor, he was addressed as Theet, but, in The 7th Doctor once claimed his nickname was Theta Sigma. Speaking of fake names, name an alias the Doctor has used with the word doctor in it other than Dr. John Smith.

Since you brought up the Academy :) what was the name of the Academy, what was the Doctor's final score upon passing, how many times did he have to take the exam, and what was his speciality?

Here's one I got accepted back on TVTome.com! :D In Remembrance Of The Daleks, what was the Special Weapons Dalek originally supposed to be instead, what inspired it, why was the Special Weapons Dalek built by the prop department instead, and what other scene benefited from its construction?

I have heard the narrated audio track for The Feast Of Steven on the Dalek Master Plan CD releases, and, I am not aware of some of what they're spoofing. :) I have heard of Z-Cars, but, don't know anything about it.

OH! Here's a good one! What animation company (Sometimes companies.) was linked with the never made Doctor Who cartoon series, and according to the one known promo cel (which could, of course, be a fake) which Doctor was it most closely to resemble (He also resembles one of the Real Ghostbusters, too, actually! =))), and which companion would be returning with him? And, if you've never seen the cel... well, posting a link now would give it away. But, I can copy and paste it later if anyone has never seen it.

  9. Now I wont make the common error of saying that this was the first episode to have the Dr's face in the opening titles because that honour belonged to 'The Macra Terror' so I will have to think about that one.

The common opinion although it is difficult to confirm is that Episode 6 of The Dalek Masterplan which was titled The feast of Steven was the first to be junked, although it must be nigh on impossible to confirm these sort of things so many years later. Still a terrible shame though :(

Now, werent the Daleks in one of the beatles films? I think they were.

Actually, you were SUPPOSED to fall into The Faceless Ones trap. :D The ironic attribute is that Part 1 of The Faceless Ones is the oldest, surviving, complete episode in the BBC vaults that contains the Doctor's face in the title sequence. None of The Macra Terror episodes exist in the vault, but, you are right in that The Macra Terror Part 1 was the first episode to feature the Doctor's face in the opening titles. So, points there. ;) Interestingly enough, The Faceless Ones Part 1 is the only fully surviving episode of that arc. Episode 3 exists, but, is severely damaged.

My information for the first wiped episode was what was listed in either the 20th or 21st anniversary books. However, since one of them, too, also incorrectly listed that The Faceless Ones was the first arc to feature the Doctor's face in the title sequence, something I hadn't thought of until just now, that information could also be wrong. But, from that book, The Feast Of Steven was said to have been the first one junked, sometime shortly after August 17th, 1967. However, the reason why no copy exists can be fairly well theorized. The BBC never included it in syndication packages to other countries, because of the fact it was a Christmas episode and the spoofs of so many BBC programs would probably not be caught by viewers in other markets who didn't get those spoofed shows on their networks. Since daily reruns weren't the norm back then, airing a holiday episode outside of its holiday date wasn't viewed as desirable. Lastly, since the episode doesn't really have anything to do with the entire story, being a Christmas spoof one-off, it could easily be skipped and not interrupt the story flow. Networks wouldn't pay for something like that, so, why offer it? Thus, no copies were ever made for other markets. These copies were what ended up saving many of the junked episodes. Plus, the copies are the reason why the series looks like it was always on grainy film. I remember when seen the VidFire restored segment on The Tomb Of The Cybermen and The Day Of Armageddon on the Lost In Time set... I was floored! I had been so used to the old VHS style of releases, I never even knew it was supposed to look like it was on video tape, except for the Pertwee and later era.

The Beatles and the Daleks. I admit I'm not a Beatles fan at ALL. The only connection I know of is the film clip of the Beatles in The Chase. So, you could be right. The only other film appearance I am aware of is a strange cameo in Looney Tunes: Back In Action. An appearance that I'm sure most American audiences wondered, "Why the HELL did that happen?" =))

  10. What irony is present in the opening title sequence of The Faceless Ones?

What was the very first episode of Doctor Who junked by the BBC, when was it wiped, and what is the most likely cause why no copy of it existed outside of the BBC vaults?

Other than the two Peter Cushing Doctor Who movies, the Daleks appeared on screen in only two other movies, as far as I know. One is the highly verboten Abducted By The Daleks. :blush2: What is the other one?

  11. The Davros one is kind of tricky. :) The common thread is that each pair of stories features the actor who played Davros in a different role in the other story. Michael Wisher played Davros in Genesis and then right after played a Vogan in Revenge Of The Cybermen. Terry Molloy played one of Lytton's hired men in Attack Of The Cybermen and then the next time he appears on Doctor Who, he plays Davros in Revelation Of The Daleks.

There's also another tricky link with Revenge Of The Cybermen. Kevin Stoney shows up as the leader of the Vogans. He had previously appeared on the series as... Tobias Vaugh in The Invasion! And, before that? Mavic Chen in the Dalek Master Plan! :o

I had forgotten the recently departed Michael Sheard was also in some Star Wars part. Good call! He has probably played Hitler more than anyone else ever in the history of film.

As for the waxwork of Tom Baker, I don't need to count him. He already played the Doctor before The Five Doctors. No, the "tricky" one I was referencing is this one: Ian Russell reading William Hartnell's lines for the BBC Audio release of David Whitaker's Doctor Who And The Daleks novelization. If we don't count him, as I said, I had 24 on my list:

    William Hartnell

Edmund Warwick (Hartnell's stunt double as well as the robot Doctor Hartnell tackles in The Death Of Doctor Who, an episode of The Chase)

    Peter Cushing

Trevor Martin (Seven Keys To Doomsday stage play)

    Patrick Troughton

    Jon Pertwee

    Tom Baker

    Peter Davison

Richard Hurndall (William Hartnell in The Five Doctors)

    Colin Baker

David Banks (Two performances as the Doctor as Pertwee's understudy for The Ultimate Adventure when Jon was ill)

    Sylvester McCoy

    Paul McGann

    Christopher Eccleston

    David Tennant

Rowan Atkinson (Curse Of The Fatal Death)

Hugh Grant (Curse Of The Fatal Death)

Jim Broadbent (Curse Of The Fatal Death)

Richard E. Grant (Curse Of The Fatal Death)

Joanna Lumley (Curse Of The Fatal Death)

David Collings (Big Finish Products Doctor Who Unbound)

David Warner (Big Finish Products Doctor Who Unbound, and almost became the Third Doctor)

Arabella Weir (Big Finish Products Doctor Who Unbound)

Geoffrey Bayldon (Big Finish Products Doctor Who Unbound)

  12. The answer for the David Graham question was, indeed, City Of Death. He played the scientist who gets turned into a skeleton. All the other times he shows up in the series, credited, anyway, were in black and white episodes of the first two Doctors. Well played. :)

I know of three actors off the bat involved with Doctor Who that have been a part of Star Wars. Peter Cushing was in the two Dalek movies as "Doctor Who" and played Tarkin in Episode IV. Jeremy Bulloch, Boba Fett, was in The Space Museum, The Time Warrior, and recently appeared at a charity function signing autographs for The Trial Of Davros. David Prowse, Darth Vader, was not in The Time Warrior, but, ironically, was in The Time Monster, also featuring the 3rd Doctor. Plus, Prowse played Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard in the BBC adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, which featured Peter Davison as "the Dish Of The Day." The Guide, of course, was written by Dogulas Adams, who was script for Doctor Who, as well as the writer of two produced scripts, and the unfinished Shada. :D

Two sets of story arcs that aired very close to each other featured either the Daleks or the Cybermen. One, in fact, aired back to back. Genesis Of The Daleks was followed by Revenge Of The Cybermen. Later, Attack Of The Cybermen was followed by Revelation Of The Daleks. What interesting common thread about Davros is present in all 4 story arcs?

Now, this one isn't as easy as it sounds. :) Name as many actors as you can who have officially played the Doctor in BBC licensed stories. (For instance, I can name 24 people! :o 25 with a minor "trick." ;))

  13. No need to Google. :D Parts of the Dalek Master Plan, playing the part of Bret Vyon. I admit I can't name the exact episodes, but, I do remember he was killed in the last of the 3 surviving episodes, Escape Switch.

Now, speaking of bizarre Dalek Master Plan trivia... David Graham, one of the Dalek voices, appeared in several other black and white Doctor Who stories, but, only ONE in color. Which one?

And, before he was the title character, which Doctor appeared on the series as someone else?

  14. I'll need to go over the original again to see what was cut. :)

Dalek isn't fun, no, but, it's easily the most satisfying episode of the ones I have seen. It actually starts off with comedic elements, with the rich man runs the world mentality. Which works in its favor when things start to get serious. Dalek builds off what Shearman started in Jubilee and fixes most of the few minor problems in the original. For instance, I think having just the one Dalek serves the story better than integrating the Dalek in with other Daleks, as was attempted at the end of Jubilee. Because, near as I can recall, no one has ever attempted a story with just 1 Dalek before. Mostly because Daleks are boring conversationalists. Even Jubilee adds more Daleks into the story later on. Using a single Dalek as the focal Dalek character also forces it on the defensive, which, as we've seen, Daleks when they aren't in the opposing positions of power, become, though they wouldn't admit it, scared. ;)

Also, the parallels that are made between the Dalek and the Doctor. "You- would- make- a- good- Dalek!" and the Doctor's realization that his greatest enemy is right. :) After all, we'd already seen the willingness of the Doctor to nova a sun to vaporize Skaro and eliminate the Dalek race. And, as Dalek shows, he was apparently willing to wipe out both the Daleks and the Time Lords to stop the Daleks. So, finding one and only one Dalek would pretty much enrage the Doctor with evidence of his failure. That sacrificing his people, oops, well, it didn't work, did it?

  15. Try this one. :D

BE SURE to load it as the ONLY page in the ONLY window of the Browser. Or, you'll be pretty hard pressed to close it before its done without losing any opened Tabs, too. Unless you're using Opera, I suppose. BTW, if memory serves me correctly, the name of the URL is still work place friendly... I think...
