  1. I'd be very surprised if the PC that burnt / verified the disc then failed to play it!

The verify stage has proved it can read it, so if it won't play, maybe the files weren't right in the first place?

What software are you playing the disc with?

Tried WinDVD and Cyberlink Power DVD

I reviewed my setup of imgburn and noticed that verify was not checked.

  2. Recreate the image using ImgBurn's 'Build' mode.

You can't use ImgTool Classic for double layer images.

First, the good news. I did as you recommended. Imgburn went through the process without a glitch. Played the nice music indicating a successful burn.

The bad news. The disc does not want to play on any of the stand alone DVD players or computers. The disc runs and runs without booting. It finally stopped on the CPU. I could not open it to see what is on it. This is a Verbatim DVD+R DL burnt with a Sony DRU 720A.

    Here's data that Imgburn provided:

This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.

None of the cells meet 'DVD-Video specification' criteria for a potential layer break position.

Do you want to continue anyway?

I am using ImgTool Classic 0.91.7 to creat an image. My version of Nero is 6.6.1.4.

The process had worked flawlessly until recently. I unistalled both Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 Platinum and Nero thinking perhaps a conflict existed between the two when I upgraded my version of Nero. Used RoxiZap to complete the uninstall of Roxio. I reinstalled Nero and did the version upgrade. Still with the same results. I can burn single layer discs successfully after using DVD Shrink, ImgTool Classic, then Imgburn.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

  5. Hi DMoore,

Do you happen to have DVDDecrypter on your computer? If so, try burning one of your CMC (Memorex or whatever) using the DVDDecrypter in ISO Write mode. And PLEASE do not use or enable the MKISOFS utility.

Now, I am almost sure that your burn will be just FINE.

    Let me know, please!

    Gonwk!

I've been using DVDDecrypter for years. Unfortunately with the same results which has me suspect what UKlightening referred to.

  6. I can?t see why ImgBurn would fail either. Failure could perhaps be measured against the shit job Roxio does with their burn engine. i.e Dumping it onto a disk without caring whether or not there are errors present. It?s far from being the best software available.

<personal hate for roxio software mode off>

I tried again with the same result. It appears to burn the lead-in then the infamous "incompatible media" message. Looking at the DVD-R it appears to have burnt a third of the media. The DVD burner is a Sony with the most recent firmware update. I've not tried dual-layer DVD+R yet so I don't know if it's a +R/-R issue.

Addendum: The +/-R burns made with Roxio play fine on our Pioneer DVD Player but not our Phillips using the el cheapo CMC media. Using the Verbatim all burns (Roxio) play on all of our machines. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Imgburn in case I had a bad install.

  8. Yeah you can't ever really trust the brand name, you have to go by the dye type.

I followed your advice. Tried verbatim DVD+L double layer. My burner has never worked as well as it does now. I had to spend money to save money. Thank you!!

As fate would have it I tried a single layer Verbatim DVD-R and received the same error message as originally with the Memorex using the latest version of Imgburn. Here's the grit: --

The media you are using is JUNK. While I can't tell you if this is the cause of your problem I can tell you that even if you get a successful burn, the disc will soon thereafter become corrupt. I would suggest you use either TY or Verbatim discs.

Thanks -- so much for buying a so-called brand name (Memorex)!
