  1. Hi,

I have the "DVD+R Reserve Track" checkbox enabled in ImgBurn 1.2.0.0's Write Settings. When I burn an image onto a DVD+ media, I see the "Reserving Track..." stage occuring (before "Filling Buffer...") within ImgBurn's status bar, however it will not be written into the Log window.

That's not a big problem of course, but avoids to determine if that feature has been turned on or not when going through saved logs as you can find them here in this forum. Especially when a problem with a DVD+ media occured, that piece of information may help.

  2. I would post them here, if you mean the logs and graphs, then if needed Lightning UK! can move them to the drives/media forum :)

    OK.

    post-2730-1142267478_thumb.png

The PI/PO scanning results shown above have been made by DVDInfoPro 4.56. I'm not sure what these results exactly mean. Maybe the Quality Rating of 84.23% means not a very good result.

  3. If there would be a step-by-step HowTo for creating those reports, I would try to post such a report of the TDK 8x ScratchProof DVD+R [TDK-002-00] media on my drive.

OK, I have now figured out how to produce the reports and images found in the "Drives & Media" sub forum, on a DVD created via ImgBurn's Discovery Mode (although I'm sure an explantation would still be helpful for others). Should I post my results there?

  4. You may also find that if you can somehow burn slightly less you won't be on the outer edges of the media and then you might not get write errors when it's trying to write the lead out stuff.
I see, thanks for the suggestion.

I'm going to look at catching the problems during polling sometime later on today...
    Great, thank!

One weird thing is that when a manual try for closing an "Incomplete" DVD failed, it may succeed on a later try. The disc will then be fully recognized and works fine, but ImgBurn reads some strange properties from the "Last Recorded" Physical Format Informations:

  5. What I really don't understand here is why you're happy to admit the program / drive burns all the other media ok and yet you continue to mess around with this combo when it quite obviously doesn't work properly!

Because I have thought the problem has gone away by enabling "DVD+R Reserve Track". If I knew that these media could make problems, I would not have bought them, but now I still have some left which I don't want to throw away of course. Maybe the problem will disappear by reducing the write speed from 8x to 4x. I will try.

Thanks anyway for taking a look.

  6. Following your suggestion, I have now been successful in burning images on the mentioned DVD+R media :-)

In fact, the "DVD+R Reserve Track" checkbox (introduced in version 1.2.0.0 but disabled per default) MUST be enabled!

Unfortunately, this was not really the fix. ImgBurn 1.2.0.0 once again produced a "Status: Incomplete" disc on the mentioned media, having "DVD+R Reserve Track" enabled. It seems that the problem is caused by the way ImgBurn is trying to close the Disc:

I have attached the entire Log of the write process to this post. The error message posted above is only visible in Debug mode. Although this error occurs, ImgBurn finishes with the message "Operation Successfully Completed!".

Unfortunately, trying to close the disc manually afterwards also fails:

  7. I had some of the TDK Scratchproof discs to test from SVP - they worked ok for me..... Different media ID tho....
yes, yours were TDK 8x Scratch-Proof DVD-R and mine are TDK 8x Scratch-Proof DVD+R. As it turned out in this thread, the observed problems have been related to DVD+ media only.

BTW, I don't know what the results posted in the "Drives & Media" sub forum are good for (sorry). An explantation on how to reproduce and/or interprete them would be helpful.

    Thanks.

  8. Following your suggestion, I have now been successful in burning images on the mentioned DVD+R media :-)

In fact, the "DVD+R Reserve Track" checkbox (introduced in version 1.2.0.0 but disabled per default) MUST be enabled!

Thanks a lot for helping to fix the problem. I would suggest to have the "DVD+R Reserve Track" checkbox enabled per default in the next release of ImgBurn. I'm not sure if there are any situations where it would be useful not to have this feature enabled. If there are none, why not always have it enabled and to remove it to be optional at all.

  9. OK, I have used ImgBurn 1.1 (because of the resource eating problem with 1.2) which has no "DVD+R Reserve Track" checkbox. I have now noticed that new option in ImgBurn 1.2 and recognized

Added: Option to have the 'Reserve Track' command issued when burning DVD+R/+RW format media.

Normally it's just issued for DVD-R/-RW media.

from 1.2.0.0's Change log. I will try a new burn using 1.2.0.0 with the 'Reserve Track' checkbox enabled tomorrow (I hope) and see if that in fact solves the problem.

Regarding Disc closing, I have now been able to repair those discs that ImgBurn burnt "incomplete", using ImgBurn again :-)

I am just wondering why nothing will be written into the Log Window per default (when not in Debug mode) regarding the successful Close Track and Close Disc. Also, no message pops up, so normally some will not be able to recognize a successful closing of a Disc.

I believe Nero actually issues a 'Reserve Track' command before it burns on DVD+R, I do not (as according to the specs it's totally optional).

I did however add an option in so you could force ImgBurn to issue it.

That's about the only thing I can think of that may cause Nero to work and not ImgBurn.

Ah, where can I find this option in ImgBurn?

That aside, it's the drives problem if it's not dealing with the close track command properly. I'd say a firmware update may help but the drive looks old now so there probably aren't any.

Someone else with the same drive / same problem.

    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=167086

Thanks, yes, my drive seems to have problems, but with other media it usually works fine. I am using the latest firmware and it seems that no new one will ever be released.

  11. You'd need to issue Close Track, then Close Disc.
When I do Tools -> Drive -> Close -> Track (within Write mode), nothing happens. Trying Tools -> Drive -> Close -> Session, the burner gets busy for a while, but no message appears. Tools -> Drive -> Close -> Disc gives the following error message:

    (...)

Sense Area: (a lot of two-digit groups)

The info from the little window on the right (while the problematic disc is inserted) is:

    Thanks for taking a look!

  12. So basically, post your burn log so I can see what the drive thinks and therefore what ImgBurn thinks. It's probably a case of your drive not acting as a drive normally would when you're burning those discs. Again, the log will tell me more.
I have not saved the logs, however, I remember that the log did not include any mention about a problem. Is there any other information I can post that might give you useful information? The TDK ScratchProof DVD+R discs are the one and only ones where I observed the mentioned problems so far. However, as said, these problems only occured with ImgBurn but not with Nero, on the same system and burner. ImgBurn also had no problems when other DVD+R media have been used.

Oh and don't worry, if they're not closed you can easily do that manually via the Tools -> Drive -> Close function.
Thanks for the suggestion, I have already tried that, but without success. ImgBurn issued an error message saying there was an incomplete track on the disc.
  13. Hi,

Most discs resulting from DVD ISO images burned with ImgBurn (version 1.1 and 1.2 tested) on "TDK-002-00" media (gray TDK DVD+R 8x ScratchProof) will fail to work properly. They will not be recognized within Windows Explorer, ImgBurn reads them with a "Status: Incomplete" and Nero InfoTool says "Disc status: Open, not finalized".

When the same image has been burned using Nero, however, the resulting disc is fine. Thus, it seems that ImgBurn has problems with those kind of blank media. Anybody aware of this?

    Thanks.
