  1. Or just use 7zip to extract the ImgBurn files and exe from the install wrapper and avoid all the OpenCandy crap rather effortlessly. Dave
  2. Hi Joe Use 7zip to extract the ImgBurn exe from the installer pack and avoid OpenCandy. One thing I should say with this, if you like ImgBurn, please make a donation to offset the loss of any revenue Lightning UK may receive from bundling targeted ad programs like OpenCandy. I'm a firm believer in users having the right to reject any unwanted installs but developers like Lightning UK spend a lot of effort & time with these projects and they deserve our help if we use their product. Dave
  3. Hi 4 hours is not at all slow for encoding BR files, slow machines can take up to 36 hours or more! I have an i5 2600K that I clock @ 4.5ghz when converting/encoding BR files and it can take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours with 2 pass encoding. I'm testing hardware encoding using CUDA on my GPU cores (H.264) but I don't expect it to be much faster, if at all, than 8 cores @ 4.5ghz software encodes. Dave
  4. Hi Use 7zip to extract ImgBurn to a separate folder to avoid the installer and OpenCandy. If you like ImgBurn (which you will), please consider a donation to offset not installing OpenCandy. I hope this doesn't violate any rule you may have Lightning UK, I'm a longtime malware fighter (since 96) and users should have the right to decide what gets installed on their machines. Your software is fantastic and I'd hate to see people get turned off from using it because of something like this. Cheers! Dave
  5. Well, if anyone knows their media quality, it's the folks here. From what I've seen here, they've either tested everything, or are totally willing to waste some bucks & BUY something to test it out. I'm ecstatic BTW, my Verbatim RE is my very FIRST Bluray ISO burn without any errors whatsoever! I'm doing the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy in BR, and after my Avatar Extended fiasco with Memorex RE's, this Verbatim media has my hopes up that this will work when transfered to BD-R Verbatim disks. Best of luck in your efforts! Dave
  6. I believe it's probably the media. My Memorex BD-RE's (Ritek BW1) froze at 7% first attempt at formatting, and 17% second time. Major pains ensued when I tried to format them with either Explorer or Nero 10 HD, but I was able to eventually burn the image..which turned out crappy anyway. My new Verbatim RE's just came an hour ago, exactly 23 minutes after my latest encoding finished (Timing is everything!!), and ImgBurn is happily formatting this disk, now at 60% and counting steadily. Quality media is absolutely ESSENTIAL, as the good folks here are always ready to point out to us idjits . Verbatim and TY's are all I will get from here on in, and consider the others to be "Lesson Learned"..the hard way of course. Hopefully the burn goes as well. Dave
  7. Yah, suppose you're right. Wasn't gonna ship the thing back today or anything, but something's definitely not working right. Like, I'm no idiot, I was invited onto the W7 core beta team by MS engineers after my Vista beta work, and I decompiled and analyzed new unknown malware variants for AV companies as an independent for 9 years on my own dime. Also helped HijackThis and Adaware developers when they started out, and for years taught new HJT analyzers and Admin'd tech/security help sites so I can figure stuff out, but this is all new to me. I like to dig deep into things to see how they work, but I've got allot of learning to do yet about BR encoding...hope you guys/gals don't mind a n00b picking your brains for info sometimes. BTW, this last burn does have multiple glitches again, many areas where pixelation is pretty bad. After doing just some basic math, it seems the 1000's (before it gives up) of "Empty sectors" IB reports in the verify log would correspond (@1080p) to some swaths of pixels being unreadable and causing the small video glitches for a second or 2. So prolly the drive is reading correctly. I'm also getting pretty sick of watching this darn movie and the excruciatingly LONG time it takes to re-encode it every time I F'up the subs.... :& I need to get it right before I start looking for some wrist arteries to disect.
  8. Now I remember why I hate Nero...total crap. Did it again with IB with no verify, and apart from about 20 seconds of pretty minor glitches at 20 minutes in, it worked fine. Again tho, I muddled the subs somehow and got 2 sets of english subs, the file's .nfo is confusing me as it says no hardcoded subs but it seems there is. anyhoo Question...it's the drive itself that's reporting these miscompares in the verify right? I mean, IB is only displaying what the drive sends back as it reads the sector info correct...so if I get allot of miscompares in the log, but the disk plays fine in my player, then somehow the drive is misreading or something...right? I'm wondering if there may not be an issue with the drive itself, or firmware. As a test, I tried having the drive play the movie in my PC but WMP said it couldn't play it because it doesn't recognize the formatting used, but if I navigate directly to the m2ts stream in the disk, it plays it fine. It also shows that disk in explorer as having 22.5G free of 22.5G. Now I AM getting confused. Do I need to RMA this drive maybe? BTW, Lightning UK, heres' that info you requested in the other thread. 9. Darn...shoulda looked at this thread a few minutes earlier, as I just started a new write with that disk. I did get that disk formatted properly again, suffice to say I will NOT let Explorer do that process again... I did try another full erase with IB and it stuck at 17% overnight, but the disk was burnable with an overwrite. Just so we don't get too confused, let's let this thread die out (or close) and I'll continue trying to figure this stuff out in the other one. I certainly do appreciate you guys helping me out as I wade into the BR stuff. Better late than never I guess.
  10. Hi ianymaty LOL! Sure wish I could've, but that's the only RE's I could find at the time anywhere near here. I will be looking for some TY's or Verbatim (which I do like BTW) very soon, but I wanted to give this BR image a try, impatient bagger I am Anyway, tried another new disc last night, made a mistake but I thought I'd let Explorer format the disk and see what happened. Shite happened is what happened... IB now declared that there wasn't enough space on this "newly formatted" disc, and asked to erase it. It couldn't...again..sigh. Froze overnight @-17%. Tried to burn with PowerISO this AM, but it said the disc needed to be erased and then failed at erasing it, many attempts. Was HD-DVD media this buggy? I don't remember even DVD's being this buggy when they 1st arrived either, although they did have their moments too. Finally tried Nero 10 to erase the bloody thing and burn the image file, we'll see in about an hour if this one works. I hope we get BR media figured out and then say "Enough! Let's stick with this for awhile, no new formats please... " G-day matey! Dave
  11. Hi Cynthia Nope...no weird SATA controller involved. Standard board (Asus Commando) SATA port, INTEL controller. Concerning the RAM, that's truly a possibility, but not that either I don't believe. I use some fairly memory intense apps at times and if I was having issues with faulty RAM, they would certainly have failed at some point long before now. In fact with some apps I have the RAM handle all I\O instead of the HDD's for speed advantages...they would surely bork if the memory was bad. I'm still pondering my original problem with the initial formatting of this disk tho. With the GUI freezing like it did @8%, but then showing that it was done on a reboot, reinsertion of disc, I'm wondering if that could have a hand in this. I think I'm gonna try another BD-RE disc and see how that fairs. TY Cynthia Dave
  12. Dude...you haven't signed up to any forums lately have you. This is ALL commonplace and necessary these days with all the bots trying to create shadow accounts and post ad spam, among other nasties aimed at these places. As for the profile error(s), I got them also but using the links in the upper right at your profile sign in worked. Small glitches can be common, I Admin 3 other IPB tech forums and stuff happens sometimes. Things like that need to be pointed out to a board Mod so it can be looked into. In your opinion maybe... Me too, sometimes too much on both counts. But comparing this program to IE, or saying that it needs MS style wizards because it's become overly complex, is off base IMO. Most common tasks are still 1 or 2 clicks away. This area of AV authoring is growing in complexity weekly and IBurn has to stay in step, so do we. I'm not new to DVD burns, bootdisk burns or any of that, but I'm a total n00b at Bray and the tools needed to encode certain "files" (political correctness there) from .mkv to bluray. I've been learning how to do this for weeks before I even tried my first attempt. 26 hours later and my remux completed...yow. I'm realizing just how far behind I am in a few short years, but instead of blaming the author of a tool for staying current with the tech his tool is aimed at is not the answer. Learning to use that tool to it's full effectiveness is... Wishing you better days Bip-bip Dave
  13. Hi again Totally new issue so starting a new thread. Got that BD-RE to format and burned the iso file, but during verify process I'm getting groups of consecutive LBA addresess that show a miscompare. Entire sectors, approx. 2044 errors per sector...IB says they're empty. Is this possibly due to a program setup issue, or a conflicting low level driver? Brand new drive so I can't see a dirty laser head, and my 1st burn with IB was flawless, except for my mistake with subtitle streams. I also extracted the stream from the iso and it's perfect, plays completely in WMP along with the menu stream and subs, so the image should be writable. Here's the logs, I tried this image twice so it's long. Any ideas? I 19:14:26 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! 14. Hmmm Apparently, only the GUI froze but the underlying process seems to have completed. After a forced shutdown, since IBurn would not allow a tidy shutdown, restarted and started IB, put in the disk and it recognized it with Satus showing as completed. Added the iso, clicked Burn, completely expecting to get the "you need to format" thing, but it went straight to the burn! @-34% now and going along swimmingly, looking good Thanx again dude Dave
  15. Hi LUK! Yah, I installed 1.00.09 right after installing the drive. Being a Looong time computer help/support guy and security expert, I know where to go for the latest, though not always the greatest, updates. I also have never really had problems with Ritek media before, don't know why this decided to freeze up on me. Yep, that's what I figured too, just wanted to know if that "could" make the disk unusable, or unrecognizable by IB next try. Was wondering if maybe the process should be killed 1st (or something) before a power down or manual eject is needed. Obviously IB locks the effective permissions on the disk while reformatting since explorer won't let me even see them. Thanx again! Let's give this another shot..
  16. Hey all Longtime ImgBurn user, 1st time poster. 1st & foremost...TY LightningUK for this app! Luv it...but.. I'm having a small issue with my 1st BD-RE disk, just getting into this BD authoring stuff. First attempt at this movie for my niece worked flawlessly using .iso created with AVCHDecoder, but I messed up with the subtitle file and wasted a BD-R disk with Polish & English subs..heheh..oops. Remux and try again. Bought the only BD-RE disks nearby to test the new iso with, then added the iso to ImgBurn & clicked the button. The app told me the disk needed to be formatted and asked if I wanted it to do this, so obviously...Yes. Well it got to 8% rather quickly but now it's frozen there, over 2 hours now. If I try to close out IB, it says it can't because it's formatting the disk. I could eject the disk (probably) and try again but I don't want to Bork it either. When I checked the queue, it showed the iso queued to write after the format, but we just aint getting anywhere with that yet. Any suggestions? Here's the log so far (screenie, cause it's not written to log file yet) Thanx! Dave Edit- sorry, forgot "Copy Log" command in log window...here it is I 15:08:32 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started!
