Thanks, I already have that feature setup and have picked up some moe software to scan my memory before my system starts. I want make sure my memory isn't getting flaky

  2. Rastus2, hold your horses before you do anything major, I'll send you over another version with some extra debug info in it. Maybe that'll give me more to go on.

Thanks, I will try it out.

I have been out for the better part of the day, If you don't mind... email me please so I'll know when to jump back on.. I get forgetful and SENILE and might miss the post. Many Thanks, Rastus

  3. Operating systems are best reinstalled about every 4-6 months.

I see you have Patin Couffin engine installed.

In my useage fo this i have known it to cause the kinda of issues your getting, especially if when it installed, there was no restart, or some kind of glitch when you rebooted after installing it.

Never used dvd43, though i think it was mentioned not to even install with the older version of imgburn IE dvdd.

I am almost certain you won't get any issue's with imgburn on a clean install.

I did a search of all drives looking for the Patin Couffin Engine. It came up empty. Belarc Advisor lists a Patin Couffin Engine in the devices, but I am unable to locate it. At this point, I un-installed the program "DVD43".

It didn't solve the problem. When I get braver, I'll do a system re-install :)

  5. As someone else already mentioned your best bet would be to backup anything you need, check all your cables, clean your computer out whilst your in there, format your drive, reinstall xp or whatever op your using.

First thing then make sure you install the chipset drivers supplied on your motherboard disc, better option would be to download the latest drivers from your board's manufacturer though.

There is also a chance if your system is hanging at certain tasks involved with ide access, that a cable is faulty, there is a particular issue with your bios on how ide or rather drives are detected, that one of your atapi devices is faulty and slowing down or stopping things closing, if it were an external writer and say you have creative xfi fatal card that can hang your computer at shutdown.

Lots of things, so simplest would be for you to start with a clean system, If imgburn then hangs again, then its either a bug in the driver your using, the hardware is faulty or your board/cables etc.

You would then have to try another dvd writer.

Have you tried to remove the controller in device manager and then letting windows pickup controller again on reboot ?

I no longer have shut down issues and the system is running as it should. The only program this is still having an issue is ImgBur,. I will remove the controller and try again. I have included another snapshot of the system. DVD43. in not on auto run. I have to click an icon to run it, if I every do. I haven't opened it in 6 months and should delete it it because I no longer have a need for it

  6. Sorry to be a pain but can I just double check that the logs you're posting a from when you've opened AND THEN closed imgburn whilst it's running in windbg?

WinDbg mentions the address 0040180a in the log, but your screenshot shows a very different address.

I launch WinDbg, then point it to ImgBurn.exe, then launch ImgBurn, click "go" in WinDbg, then close ImgBurn. Is this the correct procedure?

p.s. I am having a problem closing my computor. I have at least 11 winframe faults or winpageplacement faults. SO hang loose till I sort out these errors. I haven't loaded anything new, just Win updates, which concerns this Media Center software. It downloads and records T.V. programs pretty much like a TiVo.

I have restored my system back three months. It now behaves as itshould. I turned off the Window upater services. I'm sure thats where my shut down problems came from.

All is well EXCEPT ImgBurn 2.1.0.0 It stiil faults when I shut it down. Should I uninstall it and go back one version?

  8. Ok that says it's a first time exception, so what if you click 'debug' -> 'go' again?

When it shows that stuff in the windbg window, has the error popped up properly in the messagebox like it did in the original screenshot?

yes, still looks the same and ImgBurn still faults on exit.

    2nd_test.TXT

  9. Ok so you open windbg yeah?

    Then File -> Open Executable.

    Browse to + open ImgBurn.exe

Click 'Debug' -> 'Go' so it actually loads up.

Then when you close ImgBurn down, it should crash as you say it does and hopefully write the error into the debugger window.

Just copy + paste what it says / get a screenshot or something.

    EDIT:

Oh, you might also want to click 'File' -> 'Symbol File Path' and enter the following:

    srv*C:\Windows\Symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

then click ok. That'll mean the stack trace should show nice names for the functions being called.

okay here is what it printed to screen.

    Opened log file 'ImgBurn'

  10. Did you edit something out Rastus2 ?

No, what I did was run Windbg and included the file as an attachment, it was there, but now I see the file is gone. I'll attach it again, so sorrry. well, I add the file, then when I click Add this attachment, the screen blips, then it's gone. I need to check file length. back in a minute. 2kb, so length is okay. it's a *.wew file. Why won't it stick?

  11. Rastus2,

How did you get WMIDiag from my saying WinDbg?!

    They're two completely different programs.

It happens alot when you leave your glasses in the kitchen and are too lazy to get up and get them :)

Is this helpful? I really need a crash course on this one!

  12. The error message dialog shows imgburn.exe name on its caption, so I think this component may help LUK! on tracing that kind of mysterious errors:

    Best regards,

    bootsector

Thanks but that program is way too deep for me and besides I need other programs to help it run and I don't know how to use those other programs,,,, Hence I don't have them. I will try the one from MSoftiee and get back with you, Rastus

  13. Yes, and you should be getting BSODs/spontaneous restarts etc if your memory is duff.

How doers it go in safe mode? Have you done a virus/spyware scan lately?

    Regards

I am using ZoneAlarm, I am running two anti virus programs and I scan every two days with spybot and adaware software and I'm also behind two routers :) I think I am clean. Heavy on the system, but clean.

Since I am using the MS Media Center software, could that do it? I have had been bothere by MS netframe work shut down issues.

p.s. I know this sounds trite, but how do I get into safe mode?, this thing boots pretty quick.

    thanks

  14. this kind of error usually happens with defective RAM memory modules...

ImgBurn is the only program (at this point) that has this problem. Wouldn't this issue show up when running another piece of software?

  15. As above, have you installed anything else ?

I am still getting this error upon closing ImgBurn, each and every time. The exact same memory error involving memory range. I had not used the program to burn, just open and closed the program. I have two differant DVD burners and I am using MS Media Center edition 2002, Service Pack 2. I have 2 gigs of ram and at least 200 gigs of free hard drive space. All three drives are defragged and I have 83% free ram. This problem first occured when I updated to ImgBurn 2.1.0.0. I have no other systems errors and ImgBurn works fine.

  16. run chkdsk on the hdd via the command prompt.

    something like:

    chkdsk C: /R

Then download + run 'memtest+' to check your ram is ok. It'll make you a floppy disc to insert when the computer reboots.

That error message looks like it's something the kernel is doing. It's certainly in the right region of memory. Is your OS fully patched up on service pack 2?

I am also getting this error. When I last used ImgBurn, it closed with no errors or faults. Today, I open ImgBurn just to look around no burning, no disc in drive, and when I closed it, thats when I received the fault.

    I'll include a screen shot.

    Windows MultiMedia

    SP2 all updates

    ImgBurn ver 2.1.0.0

    NEC 8520A, latest firmware

  17. try reflashing it to the firmware before, maybe the one you got was corrupt

Well, I blew it out three more times and re-flashed it and it will burn to 19% each time, then fail. I hate to use one of those DVD cleaners if it isn't a "dirt" issue because I have it that they can scratch the lens.

For what it's worth, I managed to get my internal NEC unit to working again by using a disc cleaning disc that has a small copper brush mounted on the disc suface. It worked!

The cleaner disc with the copper brush says it may be used only 20 times and to clean the DVD unit every 10 hours. Use on DVD units only. Brand name: Maxell, THUNDERON DVD-LC

The first cleaner disc that I purchased used small plastic brushes on the surface, which created air flow over the laser-- It didn't work. Brand name: CleanDR www.digitalinnovations.com

Both say they clean and demagnitize and both come with audio programs and such.

  18. sounds like your drive could be dying :/

Thanks for the help, yes it was the drive. I bought a external Memorex unit and I'm back to doing my thing !!!!

I appreciate the hand holding during all of this, It's kinda like they say " you don't know what you had till it's gone"

    Rastus

Memorex ,around here it brings a cringe and a shudder send it back while you can and get a BENQ ,Pioneer ,Nec ,Plextor the top 4

Thanks for the advice, I will take it back in the morning. I've already complained to Memorex concerning the unit because after the initial install and re-boot. The unit failed to recognize my Verbatim -R's. I checked the region code and it was set to -6-. I thought since we live in the USA, it should have beeen set to -1-. I tried to re-set it and it wouldn't change, so after the usual hisssy fit. I emailed Memorex and told them if they didn't contact me and help me get it to working, it was going back. Well, I haven't heard from them and it worked the next day,,,, so I counted myself lucky.

Which Plextor external should I get? also, since my internal is dead should I also get the Plextor internal too?

My desktop unit has a curved face plate on the DVD burner, can it be removed and installed to the new internal drive or are these custom units made just for the BIG box makers? (just an idle thought)

    Thanks, Ratus

  20. Just before you go replacing the drive, try burning at 4X, looking at your logs, your machine is struggling beyond this speed.

Sorry, I was out pricing drives, internal and external. I did try burning at 4x the drive made it to 90%. It ended with the same fault, NO SEEK COMPLETE. I still can't see files on the drive, so I will try cleaning it before I replace it. Money is money!!!

  21. sounds like your drive could be dying :/

I am inclined to believe that. I cycled the tray and the files showed up. It started to play the files then locked up the program. I have yet to try the cleaner disc, and if it comes to it, what are some good internal and USB drives? This NEC is only 1 1/2 half years old. By the way, the drive spins up fine, just doesn't see things all the time.

  22. Rastus2;

I have used the same cleaning disc for the past 3 years and haven't done a bit of damage. Follow the directions and you shouldn't hurt the drive.... :)

I am back at it today, I reset the DMA's on both the reader and burner. Then I uninstalled both and let windows "find" them. I checked the DMA's and they are on ultra DMA 5. I installed Nero express and did a disk to disk copy. IT FAILED at 93% with a NO SEEK COMPLETETION. I re-set the burning rights in the control panel to ALL and tried a direct copy again. it failed at 23% with a NO SEEK COMPLETION. My next move would seem to be to buy a disk cleaner disc and try that. I have tried the blow out method and it doesn't seem to change a thing. I placed a movie in the reader drive and the movie played fine from front to end and then I placed the same movie in the burner drive and it wouldn't read it. So, I now have to find the cause.
