  1. Cheers, mmm, like I said, not a fault with any so far, even ones 18 months or older, all play and read fine, not scanned any ( re-previos post... ). Might give it a go now... Thanks m8. Dave.
  2. Hi Corny... Right...ummmm, these graphs dont mean a thing to me and you might as well talk chinese, so, is this good or bad.... Ive used a lot of these without a single fault, so wouldnt mind seeing what you think... Dave.

    New Psu

Well...the Enermax is supposed to have a warranty, got to find the invoice for it. I will contact Overclockers to see if they have any details, but Im not holding much hope they will help out without documentation from me. I didnt think the OCZ was a bad price really, not one available locally, so it will be a mail order jobby for that. Appreciate the input people. Dave.

    New Psu

Thanks for the input lads, worth looking into something else before I buy.. Anyone use Hiper? they look pretty good on specs, not familiar with them personally though. Dave.

    New Psu

Hi LUK, does that come with all the relevant cables/connectors? I was looking at Overclockers when you replied, dealt with them before, got the Enermax Noisetaker from them. I see that Novatech dont have the 700, do this make have a good rep for quality, I know their memory is rated highly, but dont know anything about PSU's. Dave

    New Psu

Hi all, I would appreciate some advice from you guys on a PSU. It would appear my PSU has gone Kapputt!! Looking at a new one, so any recomendations? Have been thinking of the Tagan TG900, bit over what I currently need, but thinking of going dual sli at some time in the near future..so... Im also thinking of the Hiper Omnigrid II, I dont know anything about this make, so any ideas of good makes will be appreciated. Have been using an Enermax 600w so far, thought these were supposed to be good, but this has died in just over a year, so not happy. Im not far from Novatech in the UK and I need this quite urgently, so I could pick it up tommorrow maybe. But if you know of a good PSU fom elsewhere which is better, Im happy to wait a day or two, just have to plod on with this steam powered laptop. Cheers Dave
  7. Totally agree with you on that Jack. Interested in trying these discs myself, but wouldnt touch those idiots with an extremely long barge pole. Had a nightmare with them on an order I placed with them thinking I would save a bit of money on SVP, was made to feel like I didnt have a clue what I was doing (which normally I dont!!! ) and had major hassle getting refunded for the faulty discs. Never had a single problem with the SVP guys. Whats the general thoughts on compatibilty of these discs in general dvd players as I get a lot of trouble with 16x disc and generally stick with G05 dye which has never failed me. Verbs work well 90% of the time, these be better or not? Dave.
  8. Hi, Ive set up 2 wireless networks at home and like Corny I used the installation setup to secure the network with a password of my choice, was quite simple really. To access the network from any other source you would need to know the network password. Thats all I did, maybe theres another way, but I didnt read anything anywhere about it. Dave.
  9. Hi, I posted a message on the Asus forum about this, but as of yet had no reply.... Hoping to find out what the problem would be myself, if you find out, please let me know... This quoted on the Asus forum... If you installed total 4GB memory, the system will detect less than 4GB of total memory because of address space allocation for other critical functions, such as: - System BIOS (including motherboard, add-on cards, etc..) - Motherboards resources - Memory mapped I/O - configuration for AGP/PCI-Ex/PCI - Other memory allocations for PCI devices Different onboard devices and different add-on cards (devices) will result of different total memory size. e.g. more PCI cards installed will require more memory resources, resulting of less memory free for other uses. On a SLI system, since PCI-Ex graphic cards will occupy around 256MB, another 256MB will be occupied after you install a 2nd PCI-Ex graphic card. Hence, 2.75GB memory left only if two SLI cards installed on A8N-SLI Premium while 3.0GB memory left with one graphic card without other add-on devices. This limitation applies to most chipsets & Windows XP 32-bit version operating system. If you install Windows XP 32-bit version operating system, we recommend that you install less than 3GB of total memory. If more than 3GB memory is required for your system, then below two conditions must be met: 1. The memory controller which supports memory swap functionality is used. The latest chipsets like Intel 975X, 955X, Nvidia NF4 SLI Intel Edition, Nvidia NF4 SLI X16, and AMD K8 CPU architecture can support the memory swap function. 2. Windows XP Pro X64 Ed. (64-bit) or other OS which can address more than 4GB memory. Now in English please... Dave.
  10. Doesnt Time fly when your having fun..... Nice work LUK and the team, thanks for providing the forum, best and most helpfull bunch on the net!!! Dave.
  11. Forgotten all about them, last album I had was Extreme Agression, now that was a long time ago, whats the more recent stuff like? Might have to check em out. Brings back some memories.....ahhhhh!! Dave.
  12. Finally!!!! Got the bloody thing sorted, found the driver I needed deep in the bowels of the Asus site. Not the easiest thing to find, taken me all day, but got there in the end. A big to all that helped me... Cheers guys.
  13. Its an Asus A8N32-sli deluxe Gpu is GeForce 7900gt Dave
  14. Right, thing is it was doing the same prior to installing the drivers and just checked and the acceleration is on max.
  15. Hi Lightning. Yep, dragging is slow and jerky too. I loaded all the drivers from the support cd that came with the mainboard, but also checked the nvidia site, but that didnt have anything newer. The card is a GeForce7900 and worked fine in the old puter. Will check the settings again in a bit, might have missed that. Cheers.
  16. Hi m8. Its got a 600w enermax. Never had this trouble on the old pc, same psu, all thats different is an additional h/drive and a new mainboard and an extra fan. Dave

    More problems...

Hi guys, well I finally sorted my pc after the last load of trouble...it would appear to be the bios causing the trouble, but also this resulted in a corrupted drive. Think everythings going ok now...fingers crossed. Thing is, I sort of built up a new pc from the old bits and a new mainboard. What Im getting now is when I scroll through a folder with lists of files or a webpage such as on this forum, when I scroll up or down it does it really slowly and jerky. Ive tried going through allsorts of settings and running performance utilites, but nothing changes it. Im sure its something very simple, but I just cant find it, do any of you guys know what the hell Im supposed to be looking for? Dave. ps, it does not do this on a folder with thumbnails of jpegs only folders with lists of for example iso files or webpages.
  18. Hi, yes I can boot the cd ok, problem is later with the install process. Ok, I did the memtest. Now I dont claim to understand everything it did... , but the results said pass, no errors. But when I did option 3 and bios all areas, it did come up with a bad sector and crashed on me, did this twice with same result. I have made a note of the exact result, but dont have the time to print it here (work intereferes with so much!!) I will post it a bit later, but does this sound like the problem thats resulting in this? Like I said, Im no expert when delving into this sort of thing, your help everyone whos posted is greatly appreciated. Dave.
  19. Well, the saga continues...... I popped in a brand new h/drive, installed the cd, seemed to be getting somewhere I thought, at 65% of the install got a message saying 'cannot copy file (whichever one it was I cant remember now), Bollox!, if I tried to skip, it just kept saying cant copy file, only other option was to abort and retry. On retrying it does the same as before, loads drivers etc, the when says 'windows is starting' it then goes to the blue stop screen of death. What else do you guys think it could be, mainboard problem with the bios maybe, thats what Im thinking along the lines of now. Not got a clue how to go about dealing with that, so any help would be appreciated. If I was to get a new mainboard, how difficult is it to set up from new? I do play online games a fair bit, so thinking of going to dual sli for graphics. Anyway, back to the problem in hand...any ideas are appreciated. Dave.
  20. Hi polo, well I just ordered one, fingers crossed the problem lies there and is nothing more serious. This current pc has been nothing but a pain in the ass from day one. Its only about 10 months old so I will be a bit miffed if it is the drive faulty, but I did read somewhere that using a drive for lots of dvd burning/authoring etc puts strain on them, cant see how that differs from any other use, but hey....Im just an idiot who presses buttons, I dont know how to make the bloody things work.... If all goes well, I'll let you know. Thanks chaps. Dave.
  21. Hiya, Well, Im going to try another h/drive to see what happens. Ive got a couple of others, but they are full of data and cant afford to loose them, so need to get hold of one from somewhere. I will keep you posted if this works, but Im not holding my breath..... Cheers guys. Dave.
  22. Hi guys, well, no luck so far. I dont get a ram test on start up, nothing but the screen stating the corrupt/mising file. Im currently unable to do anything other than Ive been able to do so far which is initialising a windows install which crashes. Im totally stumped. Thinking about getting a new mainboard and h/drive, think this is the way to go chaps? Thanks for the input so far lads, this one has defeated me I think....now where did I leave the hammer... Dave
  23. Oh bugger, certainly hope not Chewy.... Thing is when I get the boot menu and choose cd-rom I dont get any other options, what happens exactly is... 'boot from cd press any key to continue' 'checking hardware configuration' Then the cd runs and a whole bunch of drivers are installed then a screen comes up saying 'windows is starting' After this the pc hangs and goes to the blue stop screen, but on a couple of occasions it said 'checking for previous versions of windows' then hangs again and goes to the blue stop screen. I would be happy to format if only I could get to that stage, I simply dont get any other options appear during this anywhere. Thanks for taking the time to answer here guys Dave.
  24. Hi Kenadjian. Well, I can get to select the boot up order, but from then on after selecting the cd-rom to boot from, the disc runs, loads drivers etc, the says 'starting windows' after a few seconds then crashes with the blue stop screen. Dave.
