  1. I don't know if this is due to a recent version or not, but I attempted to burn a ~6.5 GB DVD .ISO file. Usually, before Imgburn decides to begin burning the file, a layer break menu pops up with different star ratings, but this time it picked what the log says is an "optimal" position and began burning without letting me choose my own layer break position. I was wondering if I could reactivate the feature? Any help would be great, thanks.
  2. Sorry guys, meant to reply to the thread earlier, but the issue has been resolved. The IDE controller uninstallation worked like a charm--my bad for not having checked the FAQ sooner.
  3. Hey guys, I attempted to burn a dual layer disc recently (first time I've been burning a disc in a while, actually) but Imgburn jacks up my CPU usage to 30-99% the minute the device buffer tries to fill. On top of that, the device buffer fluctuates like crazy going up and down at random percentages and slowing down my burn to a crawl. What could be the problem?
  4. Thanks for all the help--I'm most likely going to replace the drive. I was wondering if you knew any reliable online sites where I could order a NEC 6650A? I've been scouring the 'net with no luck!
  5. Actually, this happened BEFORE the firmware update. Then, I upgraded the firmware to see if it might alleviate the problem--no go. I think the burner's crapping out on me. The fact that the error I get is a READ error at the layer break and that this occurs on two different DVD images I created probably points to the fact that the burner is dying (or at least, not as effective at writing/reading anymore). Bummer.. I really like my NEC 6650A too.

  7. Alright... I thought the verify failing at my layer break was due to the .iso/.mds file I was using but apparently it isn't. I was burning disks just fine until two days ago and whenever imgburn attempts to verify, RIGHT at the layer break position the verify fails. I tried this with two different image files and both failed to fail verification at the layer break position. No, I'm not using crap media--I stick with Verbatim DVD+R DL's. I was just wondering if there was a way to tell if the problem is hardware related (ie: my dual layer burner) and not the image files themselves.
  8. Sorry, I'm slightly confused. The picture may have been a bit misleading. The grey band is actually a blue band (I just clicked on it) -- is it still an entry point and therefore shouldn't be touched? EDIT: Pfft... never mind. The thinking cap wasn't on for a bit, but I got it. Quick question, though--how did you know there was no absence of angles (what is that anywho? ) and to leave the other blue band alone? I thought blue bands should be set as seamless once another green band was set as the LB point. Wouldn't leaving it as "non seamless" make it kind of wonky?
  9. Alright... Things have been going dandy with PGCEdit and Imgburn with the help of Blu's DL DVD burning guide, but today I ran across this: The HIGHLIGHTED (a.k.a. LB point selected in gray) is designated as a blue line similar to that of VTST 7, 1 at Title 8. According to Blu's guide, if I want to use a green band as a LB point (which, I want to), I have to set the blue bands to seamless. The problem is, VTST 3, 2 at Title 4, which is the highlighted band, does not change into seamless despite pressing the "Seamless Cell" button. On top of that, it's a reused cell but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it? Blu's guide displayed reused cells as yellow which is where my confusion is coming from. Is something off here?
  10. Nothing as drastic as resetting or terminating. I just chose to "End Task." Anyway... the third burn did wind up erroring out. Except, this time, I got a completely different error. The burn finishes, but it can't close the disc and I get this: "Finalise disc failed! Device: [1:0:0]_NEC_DVD+-RW ND-6650A 103C (D:)(ATA) Reason: Write Error" And... here's the log: I 18:07:32 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! 11. Sorry--I didn't have a chance to save the log as ImgBurn locked up both times the error was displayed. I was also thinking the I/O error couldn't have been because of the layer break point, but I just re-built the ISO with PGCEdit, selected a different point to break the layer, and it's been (so far) burning fine--if it errors out again, I'll make sure to post the log. But, for now, I still think it's the media I'm using that's causing the I/O. RiData isn't the most reliable--they were bought by a friend of mine when I specifically asked for Verbatim (oh well). The LU breaking point was more out of curiosity because I'm kind of wondering if putting the VTSM 3 LU on one layer and then putting the rest of the VTSM 3 files on an entirely separately layer will cause any issues.
  12. Well, no--according to PGCEdit, that sector just happens to be nearest to the "optimal" LB point. Me, being wary, did not use it as a LB on my first burn, but instead used the sector below it (which was a segement of video showing the "FBI Warning" and NOT an LU). However, this caused 2 coasters with an I/O error. So this will be my third attempt and here's hoping I pick a LB point that will burn. If this one fails, I blame it on the media Edit: And just for reference...
  13. Hi, I've been using PGCEdit to make my ISO's and was just wondering if it's okay to make a layer break at a cell that is labeled as "LU" (language unit).
  14. Thanks! That seamless playback joint helped out a lot and I have a better understanding of what's going on. However, though I am sure this is right, I'd just like to know--in ImgBurn, is VTS_03 correpondent to that of PGCEdit's VTST 3? I'd just like to preview the cell to determine where I want the layer break point. According to the topic you posted, a layer break has to be at a place where the seamless playback joint is unchecked--this would be perfect for me since the beginning of each Evangelion episode starts with an unchecked seamless joint (meaning I can use it as a layer break and simply experience the pause as it starts an episode). So, if my assumption that VTST 3 = VTS_03 is right, I'd LOVE to have my LB point at the beginning of that episode which happens to be VTS_03. Just need someone to check if I'm right and I'm all set to go ;]
  15. Ah, I am much more informed now--I'm beginning to understand more of PGCEdit and building/burning a DL ISO. Well, to start off, when building my ISO I am prompted with this many LB options: There are several SPLIPs marked "No" and "N/A" (I'm not sure what N/A means and if it's a feasible break point), but according to what I've learned from this and other topics 50/50 is the best compatibility and VTS_03 might be a "good" break point. I don't know if splitting VTS_03 files into two layers causes any issues (if so, I'd like to break it at the VTS_03_0.IFO but the whole N/A issue again rises) but it's a green star and is split directly in half. However, I'd just like to know -where- in the video this break point occurs. Since there are so many LB points I can pick, I'd like to pick one where'd I'd notice it least (something like the "Extras" section of the DVD) but I have no idea how to preview where the LB point occurs on my computer. The V/C ID of VTS_03 corresponds to 1/1 but PGCEdit shows multiple 1/1 V/C ID's on different VTST's. My guess is that VTS_03 corresponds to PGCEdit's VTST 3 and I can preview the section by opening the corresponding cell--hope I'm right ;]! Again, I'd like to thank you guys for the help. You've been very informative and quick to respond!
