  1. Thanks for the reply. I was of the understanding that it was legal to make a personal backup copy of purchased movies. I guess this isn't so.
  2. I've looked through much of the support forums about this but maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing or I'm not familiar enough with some of the burning, image, etc. vocabulary. What I'm trying to do is take a DL movie and back it up onto two DVD+Rs. I've read all about creating a single image of a single layer DVD and creating a single image of a dual layer DVD but nothing about how to build two image files of a DVD+R DL, one of each layer. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I could simply buy some DVD+R DL and create an exact copy of what I want but I'd rather put it on two DVD+Rs and save a ton of money.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I think this issue is your 4163B probably is made by LG where my 4164B is made by LG but distributed by Dell. Previous posts suggest that Dell saves $$ by not purchasing the full up licensing aggrements that come with brand name drives. As a result my the "LG" tab under book type settings didn't allow me to change book type. I got a new drive and it's working great.
  4. One last question on the topic then I'll drop it for good. Not that it makes any difference since I can't do anything about it anyway, but you said that my Navteq DVD was pressed to PTP format. What exactly does this mean. It sounds like they write each layer seperately then physically press them together. Is that correct or do they simply have the media available for PTP writing? Maybe it's more complicated that it sounds but shouldn't somebody be able to develope a program that will burn the 1st layer from inside out, the burn the second layer outside in (OTP) but write this second layer backwards thus yeilding a PTP written in OTP. My knowlege of the subject is limited so maybe this isn't a viable answer either.
  5. Sounds like you're on to something. Below is what is shown with my Navteq DVD in the drive. Under the Last Recorded portion it shows PTP under track path. I guess this means that ImgBurn burnt via PTP but I'm assuming that my media didn't actually accept it as such. Is there a plan for media to become available that does allow ImgBurn to burn via PTP on DL discs? The media is obvisouly out there... 6. you can't get discs to burn to, so no is the answer here. all dual layer media is otp The OTP vs. PTP suggestion was just that. I really don't know if my Navteq DVD was burned in PTP. That's what I'd like to find out. If all DL discs are burned via OTP I would assume that Navteq burnt the original DVD via OTP...correct??
  7. I've searched previous forum posts and learned a lot as a result. I having problems backing up a Navteq Nav System DVD. I've burnt two, both coasters. First was a normal burn with DVD+R book type. The second was to a DVD-ROM book type. Both times the verification came back as good. Obvisously the discs are not "identical" or it would work. ImgBurn provides some information about the source DVD but is there a program that will tell me absolutely everything about what's on my Navteq disc(ie. original media used, whether it was burned via OTP or PTP, and anything else)? Sounds like other people might be having problems backing up Nav discs since they may have been burnt via PTP. It's my understanding that ImgBurn will only burn via OTP and that there is no burning software that will burn to PTP. If the Navteq DVD was burnt via PTP how would I know?
  8. The car is a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The Nav system is an RB1 and the latest nav system dvd is 05064033AE. Some people are getting their dubs to work great. Others (namely me) aren't so lucky.
  9. Thanks for replying. I feel like such a moron. There it was starring me in the face. I guess I was looking at the Physical Format Information (ADIP) line and not the Last Recorded line. What I'm trying to burn to my DVD+R DL is a image of my Navteq DVD used in my car's navigation system. Reading other posts it appears that my RB1 nav system will only read DVD-ROM thus the requirement to change book types. I've burned 2 DVD+R DL with this image. One without changing book type, and one changing it to DVD-ROM. Neither are working in the car. For what it's worth I have 2 versions of this navigation disc. One is about 2 years old, the other is the newest version. Just playing around I created an image of both. Once the ISO was written with the old version, 2 files were in the folder (an ISO, and MDS). When I made an image of the new version of this nav disc, again 2 files were created. I got the ISO but then there's another file called MD5SUM. No extension is listed with this file so I don't know what it is or whether it's important. Windows donesn't recognize it. What is a MDS file? How important is it? Also, have any clue what this MD5SUM file is? It's only 1KB where my MDS file of the older version is 9KB. When attempting to burn a DVD with my old version (with the ISO and MDS), if I choose the ISO file within ImgBurn I get a message that I should have choosen the MDS file, that ImgBurn will choose it for me, and not to do it again. I haven't actually tried to burn this yet since I don't want to potentially waste a $4 DVD+R DL if it's only going to write a 9KB file. One more thing. With respect to the firmware. I did see that the SB04 driver is available. When downloaded it came as *.bin file. How do I install this type of driver? Windows looks for *.IFO drivers. Thanks again
  10. Here is the info on the burnt DVD+R DL after changing the book type to DVD-ROM. 11. Thanks for your reply. I was using the Samsung tab. Here is the info presented after selecting book type to DVD-ROM and getting a success message. That's the only way you'll see the book type change. After the burn. The disc which is a DVD+R DL does actually burn but not as DVD-ROM. Also, I tried all the tabs for book type changing but only the Samsung's tab is selectable. That's why I'm guessing that Samsung is the tab I should use.

  13. I wrote a post yesterday looking for reasons why I wasn't able to change the book type settings within ImgBurn of my internal drive. I later found out that my particular drive did not support changing of book types. Today I borrowed a friend's external DVD burner and the booktype options were available. Problem is, after changing to the DVD-ROM book type, then burning, it's still came up as a DVD+R DL not the DVD-ROM. Needless to say this didn't work in my machine. Anybody know why it would allow you to change the book type (to DVD-ROM), come back with a "Success" box, then still burn as a DVD+R DL?? The burner I'm using is a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D and writing to Verbatim DVD+R DL media and burning with ImgBurn
  14. That makes sense. Since my OEM drive doesn't allow book type changes anybody think changing drivers would work? Can I make my OEM LG burner think it's a real GSA LG burner???
  15. When I look at my drive capabilities within ImgBurn it says it's capable of burning several types of media. Many of the boxes are checked, some unchecked but DVD-ROM is unchecked and greyed out. What's the difference between it being greyed out and/or unchecked? On the same note when I attempt to change the book type I get "Unknown (FAILED!) next to the Current Setting. As a result I can not select DVD-ROM. My burner is a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA-4164B and I'm looking at the LG tab within ImgBurn. I've tried all the tabs but after selecting DVD+R DL in the Change For, I constanly get the "Unknown (FAILED!) message. I'm currently using E113 Firmware for the drive but have thought about trying other drivers. Do you think this would help things out or make them worse?
