  1. Hey Liberachie, don't forget to post back about that new burner and how you're making out......

    Hello folks,

Got the LG DVDRAM GSA 4163B drive today and installed it. (you know...you have to wait a little while when you're too cheap to pay for shipping!)

it has burned the 2.4X DL Matrix DVD's (RICOHJPN-D00-01) with no problem. Ain't it nice when things work the way they're supposed to!! This is just too cool... B)

Hey, thanks to all of you for your help!

Hope the new year brings the best to all of you and leaves you with no new coasters....

    Cheers!

  2. dvd shrink cannot make a dual layer disc, as its name suggests it is meant for compressing films to fit on single layer media.

mount your iso in daemon tools and copy the files to your hdd

when you have the vob files on your hard disc , then follow the guides on this forum http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1780

cornholio7, it seems that DVDShrink 3.2.0.15 can make a full disk backup to your hardrive without any compression. Is there anything wrong with using Imgburn to then build the ISO file using the backup files that DVDShrink creates?

  3. stickbuilt;

After reading everything here I have to agree. Get rid of the drive! There are a number of good drives that you won't have a problem with. I personally am using Plextor 760A drives and I've not had any problems.

    Btw...stay with Verbatim discs.

    Good luck.

Okay... I'm convinced. has anyone out there had success burning a RICOHJPN-D00-01 with this Plextor 760A burner? I did find it for $58 after a rebate. The only reason I ask is because I had previously mail ordered a 50 pack of these (minus the 7 coasters..) I'd really not rather throw these out. I see a BENQ drive will burn them.

Of course, I will enlighten HP as to my opinion of their magnificent drive... huh... where's the smiley that's getting something shoved up his a$$....

anyway... off to what I really enjoy.... :piano:

Thanks everyone for your thoughts... it's been a treat....

  4. Didn't get a chance to pick up any more verbatims today... BUT... I did discover an interesting fact about the HP drive. According to the specs on HP website, you require 18 Gb of free space on your harddrive in order to burn a DL. It just so happens I still have backup data for another harddrive on this one that had left me with less than half that available. (of course, it doesn't help that Microsoft OS & Office SUCK half the drives resources away). The lack of storage may be why the burn to the Ricoh broke at 50%. just a guess.... but once I transfer some data off the drive, I'm going to attempt the Ricoh burn one more time... If that doesn't work, it'll be appointed as a home video and data burner on my second computer.

  5. kevdriver, my friend.... thanks so much for your help tonight. I'm calling it a day.. Morning comes far too fast... not enough time for dreaming... especially tonight!!

THANKS again! I'll be back for another try tomorrow. It'll soon be time to make a decision on whether to just buy a drive that's known to work. I've toasted $20.00 worth of DVDs (3 Verbs and 7 Matrix). Too much more of this and I'll have been able to buy a new drive!

    Take care my friend.

  6. Your right back to where you started with this HI firmware....... hmmm...... try flashing to HJ firmware only and then try the burn again using your Verb media. Have you ever cleaned the burner using one of the available lens cleaner kits, pretty cheap and easy, just put it in burner and let it spin around and do its job. Just a thought, depending on how old your unit is.

The drive is about 1 year old. I think I've actually only burned 1 DVD of a home video on a SL DVD using Nero. So it's had very little use... although that has no correlation to the dust that may have blown through the unit in the past year... I flashed back to HJ and tried to burn another Ricoh. It failed to initiate the burn. Unfortunately, I toasted my last Verbatim on the last attempt. I'll have to pick up some more tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll try a HJ burn on the verbatim. Here's the log for the ricoh with the HJ:

  8. stickbuilt, just double checked again, HP is definitely showing HJ as the current newest firmware........ :)

Okay... here's what I did. I updated with HJ, and then updated again with HI. It's currently burning (at 13%) the Matrix brand DVD (RICOHJPN-D00-01) (which it wouldn't do before). Amazing! I will try the verbatim after this one completes and let you know how it goes. HEY... THANKS for helping me out! And that goes to everyone who posted!

HP was really informative about the history of updates... NOT!!

Just an additional thought... You know.... with all the horrible news you see in the headlines everyday about people who are nothing but scum sucking bottom feeders, it's a nice feeling to have complete and total strangers from who knows where give you a helping hand. Gives a person a little hope for the world.

why do I have this feeling I'm going to be dreaming about boobs tonight?????

  10. Your Welcome stickbuilt. Get back to us and let us know how its going.......

hmmmm.. something's not right here. THe HI24 update (the one I did yesterday) has a release date of 2006-08-23. The HJ24 update has a release date of 2006-March. According to the dates, I've got the latest one. Do you suppose that the HJ24 has some updates that the HI24 doesn't include?

  11. Destination Device: [1:1:0] HP DVD Writer 740b HI24 (F:) (ATA) The firmware shown here is HI24. The HP website is showing HJ24 for the most current firmware. Maybe another update came out? Where did you get your update from?

From the HP website. I sent them an email and told them I was having write errors on ricoh and verbatim DL's. perhaps that was the cause of the update??? nooowayyyy.... but I'll try the update now. THANKS for pointing that out!

  12. Why can't these hardware manufacturers get anything right?
    Because they can't??? :D

All jokes aside, did you burn the verb at 2.4X? If not try that.

  14. Verbatim DL discs are the way to go we see problems with all others

Thank you for your time. I updated the firmware on the HP 740b, bought some Verbatim DL, but still have same exact write errors. I've only burned a couple of SL DVDs with this drive before using Nero, but never tried a DL. Maybe the drive is a POS. I just love computers. Why can't these hardware manufacturers get anything right?

  15. Greetings... New ImgBurn user here. I've searched the forum for some help, but can't seem to find my specific problem with regards to my drive.

    First question:

Under the drives & Media forum, it is organized by Media type. Is there a way to optionally organize by drive type so that the user doesn't have to peruse through all of the media types to verify if his/her drive type has been tested against various (or any) media types? Where I am having a write error, I was interested to see what media has been successfully burned by my drive (an HP 740b DC 24).

Secondly: I'm trying to burn a DL DVD recognized as type RICOHJPN-D00-01. It is having errors while trying to write the LeadIn. It doesn't appear that it's even started burning. Are the DVD's still usable or are they trashed at this point? Anyone have any idea why the write errors would be occurring? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here's the log: (try to ignore the fact i apparently did a build twice....)
