  1. Never mind - I found the cycle tray option under Settings/Write.
  2. I have a new drive, a little Samsung SE506CB. It has a simple mechanism with a spring that opens the drive. The drive has to be pushed shut by hand. Is there some way to turn off the ImgBurn option that ejects the tray before verifying. I have to quickly shut the drive again to allow the verify to proceed. I have the Eject Tray option unticked, but this doesn't help.
  3. Thank you! That is an amazing feature, I just tried it.
  4. I did one more test. I burned a 19GB image, at 2x. No errors.
  5. To date I only tried at 4x. The label says 6x. ImgBurn says the media supports 2x, 4x and 6x. (Are there cases where faster can work better than slower?) I just tried the same data that failed so many times previously. I used 2x and it worked first time, which is good news, thanks for the suggestion. Of course it could just be luck, as I previously burned several disks at 4x without problems. I don't feel like using the remaining ones of my 50 disks to try yet more tests, although it would have the advantage of getting rid of them forever. I'll use the rest at 2x. On doing more reading I see there are also doubts about the lifetime of LTH disks. It would be a mistake to use them for archival purposes. (I actually don't trust any optical media for anything archival.)
  6. Thank you for finding that firmware. The upgrade worked correctly. After rebooting I checked the version and it was 1.01. (I couldn't find that version, the LG site only had the previous firmware.) Unfortunately it does not appear to have helped. I just tried a files and folders write, and it gave errors again. I've ordered lots of good quality disks and will be careful never to buy any LTH disks again. At least I have learned something from the experience. 7. I will answer my own question. Very few products say what they are, which is annoying. I found that this page lists all the manufacturer ids and media type ids, so you can find out once you have bought the media: https://www.blu-raydisc.info/licensee-list/discmanuid-licenseelist.php If you buy from any manufacturer that includes LTH entries on that list you might find that is what you end up with. If you buy from any brand not listed (such as Verbatim) then you get something that is on that list but you don't know what until you get it Once you have the media you can run a program such as VSO Inspector on it, and find out what you have bought. That appears to reduce the likely choices to Panasonic, Sony and TDK. My previous TDK disks have been good and HTL. So I could have got more of those. I decided this time to buy a box of Panasonic and a box of Sony, both from Japan (via Amazon).
  8. I tried more tests. Now it is failing every time but with several different reasons. 9. Is the Samsung SE-506CB/RSWDE any better at LTH please?
  10. After hitting problems with some Verbatim LTH disks which don't work reliably with my recorder, please can you recommend some reliable BD-R HTL disks. Preferably with the exact name and details so I can find them on Amazon, or even better a link? Reading the feedback on Amazon just confuses me as every product has someone who says it is good and someone who says it is bad.
  11. 'Hit and miss' is a good description. After burning several OK using the copy folders method, I had one fail again. Here is the log (is this right or is there a way to upload it? What about the .ibg file, is that useful, how does one view it?) ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 - Log ; Monday, 11 January 2016, 09:36:35 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 09:03:35 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started! 12. I have now tried copying the files to my hard disk and writing to the Verbatim BD-R as folders, and ImgBurn did it without errors, including verify. So it does seem as though you can't make an image copy from an HTL to an LTH. Or am I basing this on inadequate information?
  13. I'm running the latest ImgBurn 2.5.8.0 and have used it many times in the past with success. I'm now trying to make a copy of several Blu-ray BD-R disks I created myself using Vegas Pro. These disks all work fine. They are single layer on TDK media. I suspect these are HTL media. The device is an LG BE14NU40, a good quality external USB drive. The technical spec says it supports everything, including BD-R LTH media. The media I am trying to write to is Verbatim BD-R LTH 43813. So I used Create image file from disk, and that made me an ISO image, no problem. Then I put in the new media and used Write image file to disk. The first time it said it couldn't write to sector 1, kept retrying, and gave up with an error. It is possible that disk was bad as I had previously tried to write to it with Nero, (and that program had said the disk was "illegal".) The second time I tried a new disk, and this time it wrote the disk, apparently OK, but when it started to verify I got "Layouts do not match". I tried playing the disk and it partly worked but had all sorts of errors. I have also tried burning some disks directly from Vegas Pro, to the same Verbatim disks, and it has worked perfectly. And they play perfectly. This seems to imply the hardware works, and the disks work. Questions. 1. Can one make an ISO image from an HTL disk and write it to an LTH disk? 2. Should I try simply copying all the files to my hard disk and then use Write files/folders? 3. I looked for firmware updates. I downloaded the latest firmware from LG. I can't find how to find out the version of firmware already on the drive? When I run the updater it simply does nothing, no display. Perhaps because I'm on Win 10. I pulled out my ancient XP laptop (it says it supports XP) and tried the update on that, but the program gives an error message at once and stops. Any suggestions please?
  14. Thanks for the advice. I built the image file. I put back the normal cable I use. I powered off and on the computer. Then I burned yet another disk. No errors. Verified it against the image again. Still no errors. So it is all working now. What I have learned is that it is best to take the extra time to make an image file, as you suggested. The problem could have been: - three bad disks in a row - usb port/driver malfunction - cable/connection problem - other computer issue that interfered somehow - the unknown something else I have had bad experiences in the past with USB, especially USB3, when copying files (photos) from card readers. There are numerous possible problems when doing that. Using a USB3 extension cable is an almost certain way to sometimes corrupt data when using an external drive for example. Some USB3 cables are low quality and are not reliable. I use a program called h2testw to test every new SD card/card reader/cable/port/computer combination, to make sure there are no weak links (including fake cards). Where does it get the information that says which USB version to display in the log?
  15. Might it be significant that the log reports the drive as "(USB 2.0)". It is a USB3 drive on a high quality USB3 port..
