Yes, I now see you wanted to copy all 10 ISO contents to the root directory of one disc.  The 4 folders you were getting were the same four folders found in each ISO.  Because the same four folders probably exist in each ISO, copying the contents to 1 disc probably won't work.  But, with that being the case, the virtual drive suggestion I added may be what you need, if that works.  If it does work, you can copy all 10 ISO's as 10 separate ISO files to 1 DVD.  Then, you can mount each ISO as a virtual drive as you need it from the DVD.  Or, copy the ISO's from the DVD to a folder on your hard drive.  That way, you'll have all 10 ISO's on 1 DVD to access whenever you need them by copying them to your HDD.  The image files will mount and read faster when running from the HDD than from the DVD.

I took the bull by the horns and burned the individual  ISO files. The operation was successful. In the end, I didn't have to use ten DVD's, because once the language apps are  installed on the PC from the disc, I don't need the  disc any more.  I can erase it and use it again for  installing the next level.

I still don't understand, though, why I  could  write-burn the individual ISO files, but not the cumulative ISO after using the  build mode.

I thank you so much for your help

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what the OP originally wanted.  I got the impression they wanted 10 ISO's burned to the target disc, but the disc that was burned only had 4 folders and 1 ISO file on it.

I see your post only now and I had already sent  the description and the results of my trial a few minutes before.  . May be they crossed in the mail. Anyway, I'll try to explain what I want to do.

I wouldn' t have any problem if I burned each of the ten ISO files separately  in as many DVD, but it would be a waste of time and material. So I was hoping to be able to   burn all the ten ISO's to one disc.  The number of ISO files is ten because each of the three languages has 3 or 4 levels, each one being an ISO file. To cut down on the number of DVD's  it would help if IMG Burn allowed  to  burn folders instead of single files. Is this possible?

I hope this helps you in..helping me

    Thanks

I'm not sure what you've done.  When you're in Build mode, everything you add to the Build mode and press the Build button gets added to an ISO file for burning.  Even if you add ISO files to Build mode, those ISO's get added to a new ISO.  Then, you go into Write mode to burn this new ISO you created in Build mode.  If you never went into Write mode, how could you have made a disc in ImgBurn where the contents aren't right?  Maybe if you used the Write files/folders to disc mode from the main menu.

    1.     I processed the ISO files on Build mode using as a destination a folder on my PC. Here I got ONE ISO file for 3 GB’s.

It looked good, because it is exactly what you said and I then tried to Burn this to Disc in WRITE mode. Unfortunately, I still got the same ten ISO files on the DVD.

    2.     I tried extracting  the  ISO files ( on the PC ) with 7-zip, as you suggested. This time, after extracting, I got 4 folders for each language ( Data, Documentation,Languages, Speech).

It looked good. Since these folders are the same appearing on the DVD after each burning of the ISO, Ithought I wouldn’t need to burn them and I just copied them to disc. To no avail. The Language program doesn’t see them  and  therefore it cannot install the languages.

3   If I can’t get this working, I have no choice but burning each of the  10 ISO files on separate DVD’s and  then may be I can copy them back  to the PC in one folder, hoping that the language program can install them from the PC.

    Thanks

Before you do anything else, restart the PC.  In case something got messed up somewhere.  Windows could be returning incorrect contents from the disc.  Check the disc again and see if it still only has 4 folders and no ISO files.  If it's still bad, recreate the ISO but make sure of certain things.

Are you sure you're burning the right ISO and not an old file that didn't burn correctly before?  Before you had a CD sized ISO.  Then you made a 3 GB ISO.  Especially if you have split image file sizes, the file names may not necessarily be the same anymore.  Before you burn the ISO in ImgBurn, make sure it's 3 GB on the source disc with Windows/File Explorer.  Then make sure you're burning the right ISO.  Make sure the Size in Write mode when you load the ISO says it's 3 GB.

If you're still getting incorrect contents on the burned disc, explore the ISO file with Windows/File Explorer.  Make sure it actually has the 3 GB of ISO contents it's supposed to have.  IF you have a correct ISO and are STILL getting incorrect burns, you've got more of a serious problem going on.  A drive would have a really hard time writing phantom data to a disc that is actually readable and not just an unreadable mess of a disc.

    Thanks

1 . I did restart the PC. The DVD still shows the ten ISO files. Besides, I checked the Properties for each file and they are ALL   ISO.

    2. I have no reasons to believe that the ISO files I was trying to burn in Build mode  were old or perhaps incorrect ISO's because   the 1st ISO file  done by IMG Burn was burned correctly  and the other ISO's   were part of the same batch.

    3. The 3 GB ISO I made in Build mode was comprised of the ten ISO files, but I did not see one cumulative ISO file for 3 GB. This size ( 3GB ) shows only on the Build screen.

    4. You  tell me to make sure that  when I load the ISO in Write mode the size is 3 GB.  Well,  in the operation I only selected  the Build mode and I  pressed the Build button . I never selected Write mode after.  Should I have? May be this is the problem.

    5. In the last paragraph of your reply  you  tell me to explore the ISO file on the ( supposedly burned disc. You speak of  ISO file at the singular. Well ,there isn't ONE comprehensive  3 GB ISO file on the disc. There are ten of them, for a total of approx 3 GB.

6.Since the  ten ISO  files are for three languages  and each language has 3 or 4 levels,  there may be several .  1 or  2 or 3 levels corresponding to different languages. Is it possible that the computer gets confused when it sees more than one    file with the same level?

    Thanks again

    No problem.

When you create the new ISO in Build mode with all 10 ISO's on it, when you go into Write mode to burn this new ISO, check the size of the image being burnt.  It should be displayed in the upper left hand corner under Size.  If it says it's anything other than 3 GB, which you said should be the approximate target size, then something went wrong again.  You can check this size to make sure the ISO is being built correctly.

I redid it. Yes, the size of the ISO   files being burned in  the build mode is exactly the same as the one of the files I dragged into the IMG build  screen from  the PC.

I even saw  all the ISO files and the different languages being( apparently)  burned. HOWEVER this time something new came up and I am back to square 1: the files " burned" on the DVD  are still ISO  files and they are exactly the same as the ones on the source folder to be burned from.  It looks like IMG Burn copied the ISO files to disc instead of burning them.  Any clues?

I notice that the  1st  partial burn  I had written to you about had a different layout on the disc, but at least it worked, however incomplete: on the DVD there were no longer ISO files but   four folders:  Data, LANGUAGE and another  2  folders. The Language Application on my PC was able to see them and install the course correctly.

This time, unlike before,   the application language program  can't install them because there are still 10 seemingly unburned  ISO files on the DVD.  Why ?

    Thanks

Check the disc you burned in Windows/File Explorer.  If all 10 ISO files are on that disc, then, ImgBurn burned the contents correctly.  Whatever reason why your Language program won't find the other ISO files would be down to the Language program or Windows.

Whatever you mean by Language program, though, I don't know.

I see the problem.  The 10 iso files were for about  3 GB,  but there are only 400 MB  burned on the disc. So something went awry . May be I did something wrong.

    Thanks for your help

If you like to burn that as ISo in a disk and not the files that are in the iso.

You can just use build mode and drag the iso into the window.

So you would have one disk that would contain may ISO inside.

Just drag them into build mode as if they were files.

    post-92-1171236476_thumb.png

I have 3 language courses on my PC for a total of  10 iso files which I want to burn to one DVD. I did drag all of them into in the build mode screen, as you suggested, but the language program installed on my PC picks up and installs only ONE of the  10 files, which means that only ISO was duly burned . The Language program on my PC doesn't see the other languages and and levels , each one corresponding to the  ISO files  ( 10) dragged into the build screen.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

What you apparently did was simply copy all 6 CD image files to the ISO.  While this isn't a total failure, all you can do with that disc is load each CD image file from the DVD in ImgBurn and burn them to CD's.   Or mount them in virtual CD drives from the DVD.

What you need to do is burn the CD image files to disc or mount them as virtual drives and copy the contents from the CDs, not the CD image files, to 6 temporary folders.

You were probably asked for a 2nd DVD because you burned the job twice, putting the burned ISO file into ImgBurn's queue for burning.

MDS is just a pointer to another file.  So, in your destination folder, the MDS was actually pointing to the ISO file that ImgBurn created.  For instance, with your original 6 CD image files, the MDS files point to the MDF file, which is actually the CD image file.  MDS just tells ImgBurn how to burn the MDF/ISO.

I'd like to mount all 6 Cd images on virtual drives,  but Daemon Tools Lite free version only allows one virtual drive. For more, I have to pa.. Alternatively can I  perhaps mount the 6 cd  img files (.mds) to the same Virtual drive?  How? I don't think I can do it with Daemon Tools or IMGBurn. Any suggestion?

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can do basic mounting of images with DT Lite - for free.

It certainly let me when I just tried it.

Bull’s eye! It works with Daemon Tools Lite Virtual Drive. The first time it didn’t work because I was trying to burn the image to Virtual drive, which IS a paid option.

Also, I had converted ( or, better, reconverted!)  the .iso file to .mds with Winiso. I don’t know how I ended up with an .iso file for CD 6 only and not all the other CD’s, but  I had a hunch this may have been the   problem . Probably some wrong manipulation.

Anyway, this time I installed the virtual drive and mounted the ( converted) .mds file for CD 6 on it and the setup kicked in beautifully like for all the  previous Cd’s on the physical drive.

I learned a lot from this exchange. Often,  problems are the cause of progress’

Thank you all for your help.

Try Alcohol 120% Free version.  I don't know if it supports mounting MDS or not, but it's worth a try.  And I think it's free version will let you mount images, but I've never tried it.  In fact, I haven't used Alcohol in like a decade.  I know Virtual CloneDrive, which I use, doesn't mount MDS files.

You could try creating a new .DVD or .MDS file under ImgBurn's Tools and point the new file to the .MDF file.  .DVD, I believe, is supported by Virtual CloneDrive.  Although a new .MDS file probably doesn't matter in this case.

I had already downloaded  Alcohol120 free version  recently..  The installation process told me that I needed to restart the computer in order  to  continue. I did it, but I was  asked to restart  time and again in an endless loop and the installation never completed.  In the end,  I desisted .

I downloaded Alcohol  120 again a few moments ago, because I had virus problems and thought that may be this was the reason. To no avail! The same re-start  loop still kicks in. I wasted too much time. Better giving up.

Ignore the ISO. You wouldn't have an ISO *and* MDS/MDF for the same disc. The MDS/MDF will be the better option.

Yes, I mean mounting to a virtual drive. Download and install DAEMON Tools. There's a free version. They developed (or co-developed) the MDS format, so it's the best way of dealing with those types of images.

The Virtual Drive mounting option is not included in the Daemon  Tools free version( Daemon Tools Lite). I have to pay for this option. Is there an other software I can try?

I can still read the texts  from the  ADOBE folder which has a subfolder called TEXTS . These texts are not clearly identified by name and author and I have to  guess the contents by the abbreviation. It is a bit longish, but I guess I have to live with it if I cannot burn the CD properly. Maybe it is a corrupt file or I have done something wrong with it. I'll try to re-download the software, hoping that the .mds file will be intact, in its original version.

THanks for your help. Your software is beautifully designed and easy to work with.

Mount the mds in daemon tools, fire up ImgBurn and go into Read mode. Point it at the virtual drive and then copy+paste everything from the disc info box on the right.

The iso probably came from a bad attempt at converting the mds/mdf. Don’t just use the mdf on it’s own, it belongs with the mds and the mds is the one you pick when mounting or burning.

For his 6th cd there are three files: a MDF file ( 699 MB), an other  file listed as Disk Image File but as .iso file( 328 MB ) in the Properties tab  and a 3rd file ( 1kb!) showing as .mds in the Properties tab.

For the .mds (1 kb ) file and the .mdf ( 699MB) file I get the "invalid/not supported"  message, allegedly  because only single track images are supported. For the .iso file ( 328 MB) the burn process goes through, but the SETUP  doesn't work. None of these three files can be successfully burned to DVD.

By" mounting the .mds " in Daemon tools, do you mean mounting to a virtual drive?I don't have Daemon tools, anyway. Can I use WinIso or  Magic Iso instead?

Or perhaps is there  a way to reconvert the .iso file back to .mds?

I could also try to re-download the Software program, because I think there was an .mds file which got somehow converted to.iso. Would this work?

I find it odd that all the other 5 cd's could be burned pretty well and they do work.

    Thanks

  13. Thanks  dbminter

Very good progress! I have been able to put all the 6 individually burned cd's on one DVD with the build mode : 5 of them work pretty well: when I click  SETUP on any of them on the same DVD , I can read the texts beautifully.

The only problem is with CD 6 : the SETUP won't work.

I re-burned  file CD-6  individually with no better luck : there are are three  CD-6 files  on my source folder I had downloaded: one has an  ISO ending( 335 MB), the 2nd one shows as a MDF file( 699 MB) and the 3rd one shows as " Disk Image file " ( 1 kb), but as MDS on the Properies TAB.

The 1st two ( apparently) complete the burning process, but then the SETUP won't work:  I get  a CMD Command prompt which flashes  few times and then goes away, OR( in the third case)   I get a message saying" invalid or unsupported file format. Reason: only single track images are supported".I  can't even start burning.

I hope to be able to fix this glitch with your help.

    Thanks

    ...omissis

Did you already burn 6 discs with the MDS/MDF files?  If not, you'd need to burn them, preferably to rewritable discs, temporarily so you can copy the contents of each disc, e.g. that long list of files and folders that had the SETUP file in it, from each disc.

    ..Omissis

These 6 individual discs are what you'd need to copy to 6 temporary folders in another temporary folder.  And it would be these 6 temporary folders in a temporary folder itself that you would add to a Build job and burn to ISO and then to DVD.

Build mode is not batched.  It will only queue image files to burn in a batch it creates.  And, thus, you'd have to create more than 1 before burning one to queue.

    O.K. I think I got  it.

I'll burn each MDS file to a different DVD, then I'll create a Temporary folder with 6 subfolders, each for one of the six burned CDs. Then I'll copy each of the burned DVD's contents to the corresponding subfolders  .

I am not too sure how to proceed with the Build mode after that, in order to have all the 6 cd images in ONE DVD  : I thought that , since the 6 subfolders would contain the already burned contents of the six individual DVD's, I wouldn't need to burn them again and that the build mode  mode would simply transfer the 6 separate subfolders ( already burned) into one DVD. You seem to say that after the Build mode there is a 2nd stage where I have to burn again.

Anyway, I'll go ahead and try. If it doesn't work, then,  and only then, I'll let you know and you may want to clarify the above. If it works, I'll still let you  know and you won't need to spend more time in clarifying. Less work for you.

At this point, I have just seen your following post with a supposedly  easier method. Since I have some questions on that , too, and I don't want to load you too much, bearing in mind that, as you seem to imply,  a Forum like this is not a platform for a full course,  let  me try first the method  you originally suggested.

    1. Regarding he 1st paragraph, do you mean that,  as an alternative to the procedure outlined in the 2nd paragraph, I can,  if I want, load ( copy?)  the contents of the DVD as it is now ( those six files) back to IMGBurn as the origin files and then burn them to DVD? . Would this finally open up  that long list of files and folders, including the SETUP .exe file require to unlock the software and allow me to read he texts?

    2. Regarding the 2nd paragraph. If I try   to burn the 6 Cd images in six separate BURN processes, each time the system will ask me to  erase the disk first, won't it? Is there a way to burn them as a batch? I thought this was what the BUILD mode does.

Also, supposing that  I can burn each subsequent CD image on the same DVD,  what do you mean by" copying the contents from the CDs,( not-as you stress- from the CD Image files) ,  to 6 temporary folders"?

    More specifically:

    a) what and where is this" contents'? Is it the contents of the DVD after burning the image( like the the long list of files and folders  showing on the DVD after I burned successfully the first CD)  or is it something else, somewhere else in the computer and not on the DVD ?

    b) As to the six temporary folders, supposedly one for each CD, what do I do with them after copying the " contents" on them ?( whatever it is)

Thanks for your help and patience

Yeah, when you change the file association, you don't need to do it for each individual file.  You've changed the file association for all files ending in the .PDF extension.

Well, it's not really as simple as just copying over all 6 CD's to one Build job.  You can choose to copy and not overwrite existing files, but there's no guarantee the installer will work that way when you run it.

What you can do is simply copy all 6 CD's contents to their own individual folders, 1, 2, etc. into a Build job.  You'd first have to copy over each CD to its own folder, 1, 2, etc. on your hard drive and then add each folder to a Build job.  That way, you can insert just the one disc and run an individual installer from each folder.  That's probably your best bet.    6 CD's might not fit on a single layer DVD and you may need a DVD+/-R DL or a single layer Blu-Ray disc.

I have looked at your Guides for instructions about the Build mode in order to have all the 6 CD’s burned on one DVD, but I am hitting a wall.

Here is what I have done so far:

1 I have created a folder in the computer containing all the 6 individual MDS files.

    2. I used IMGBurn (  Build mode)  using these six files  as the origin files and a  new folder in C:/as  the destination folder. Now, after the Build operation,  in the  destination  folder there are no longer 6 individual MDS files but  TWO files: one . ISO and one MDS file, so I thought something was working.

I then tried to burn these two  files to the DVD drive, but I am going nowhere. .

First,  my  DVD disks are 4.7 GB each and  the entire  collection of 6 CD’s  is 3.9 GB, so it  should fit in one DVD, but, strangely, I was requested to insert a 2nd DVD.

In the end, both are duplicates, because they  list the same 6 individual MDS files, but there are absolutely no data allowing to open the software for reading the texts, like in the 1st successfully burned individual CD I mentioned in a previous comment..

I’d appreciate it if somebody could help me.

    Thanks

Since these files are apparently PDF, what I would recommend is after they're installed, look for any files with PDF extensions and just copy them over.  That way, you shouldn't need anything "installed" from this CD at all.  You should also search the install CD itself for any PDF files.  That way you can just copy them over instead of having to install anything if the installation works that way.  Then, you could use your own PDF reader.

Acrobat Reader 3?  Wow, how old are these install CD's?

    Thanks

It works! I have found the files with the PDF extension in the folder "Testi" . I simply went to the first PDF   file   and  changed  the OPEN WITH  program in PROPERTIES  from Windows Shell to Sumatra .I didn't install the Acrobat Reader and  It works! I didn't even need to change each file individually. They all went to Sumatra automatically.

Each single CD covers one period of the Italian literature. Is there a way to burn all the six CD's into one DVD with ImageBurn?

Yes it is an oldish  collection ( 1999) published by  the Italian well-known newswpaper    L' Espresso in  collaboration with University literary experts. I believe in those days the collection was  free  when you bought the newspaper .

If you want to use your old PDF reader instead of Adobe's, you can try uninstalling Adobe Acrobat Reader in Add/Remove Programs.  It should restore the old file association for PDF to your old PDF reader after uninstalling Adobe's.  If it doesn't, you should be able to restore its association by reinstalling your old PDF reader.

I would think, in theory, you can copy the contents of the install CD to a new folder on the micro-card and then run the SETUP application from the root directory folder that is on the CD that is now in this new folder on the micro-card.

    THanks

I did uninstall from the computer the Acrobat Reader program installed from the CD  during the original SETUP, hoping that it would connect to Sumatra by default, but it doesn't work. I must install Adobe Reader for my software to work. .

Incidentally, when installing Acrobat Reader 3 from the CD, not only does it  it  create a folder under Program Files, as usual, but it also creates  a 2nd  Acrobat Reader 3  installation folder( apparently the same)   at the root C:/.  This must be the location from which  my CD program reads the information  to open Adobe, because if I delete this folder  from the  root,  Adobe will not open  from the Cd, even if    the program has not been uninstalled.  By doing so, I hoped to ..fool the system  and that Sumatra would open  by default, but it doesn't.

Anyway,. no big deal, as long as I can read the texts.

Concerning your suggestion about how to work withe the tablet micro-card. I'll try, once I have burned all the 6 CD's

You are welcome with other suggestions. You have been of great help

Well, that appears to be a software installation disc.  Notice the SETUP application file?  This disc wants to install something.  You may need to install this disc's contents to access the text readable information.  It seems to be in PDF format because there's an Adobe folder which indicates to me there's an installer for Adobe Acrobat Reader to read PDF files with in case you have no PDF reader installed.

At this point, without actually executing the SETUP application, I can't say.  Although the AVI folder would contain video files.  This doesn't seem to be a disc with anything to read stuff from.  It seems more of a software application installation disc.

I have clicked on the SETUP  app .   Wow!!! It works!  I can read the texts with the bundled App Acrobat Reader. Not my top choice, though,. Usually I use the Sumatra  pdf reader. Visually a  lot better, also because I can change the background colors. I don't know if there is a way to  use Sumatra . For some reasons Sumatra kicked in as a pdf reader the 1st time I used the CD software but it never kicked in after, because Acrobat Reader opens automatically.

The only  snag I had so far was repeated crashing with the message " NTVDM has stopped working.." I had to keep reloading the program to go on reading.  Now it seems O.K, perhaps because  I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Reader.  There is also another message ( in Italian) popping up saying that the SETUP files cannot  be decompressed . I cannot understand why, because the  software works and I can read my texts.

One last question: is there a way to use the program on my Samsung Table? I have a micro-card on it with all my library. Can this CD program be installed on Microcard? How?

All in all, I love ImgBurn . It is very straightforward

I chose YES, the burn process was completed successfully. Although the disk on the DVD drive shows empty on " My computer",  when I open it it shows a detailed list of files and folders. I don't know how to attach the list here. If you want I can do a print-screen and e--mail it to you as an attachment.

Good sign, but from here on I don't know how to read the literature texts that the disc contains.

I also notice that the  the file I wanted to burn shows in IMGBurn as ISO 9660 , while the same file when downloaded to the computer shows as MDS.

    Thanks for your help

  21. I have downloaded a  Literature collection comprised of 6 CD’s, each  in MDF and MDS format. In each CD there is a MDF file that carries most of the information ( 600 MB) and a MDS  file with only a few KB’s.

The idea is that I should be able to burn the Images to   CD’s and eventually read the texts in each CD.

I thought I’d have to convert first the MDF files to ISO  before burning to CD.

Since your software doesn’t have a convert option, I used WinIso and Magic Iso. In both cases, I got the message that the burning operation was successful, but when I opened the CD in the drive, it was empty in all cases ( they were RW CD’d duly erased )

Finally I tried your software. Here too, the burning operation kicked in, but towards the end I received a long error message, basically saying “ I/O error..scsi status 0x02…SK interpretation : illegal request”.I javen’t a clue what it means.

    Here are my questions:

1.Should I have burned the MDF files directly without converting to iso?

At this stage the original MDF files are no longer there, because I converted them to iso, I’d have to re-download them.

2.All the softwares I looked at, except IMGBurn, have  an EXTRACT button. I am not sure what extract means here because usually we  extract only compressed files ( Winzip or other). In this case the MDF files don’t look compressed.

Do I still  have to extract the MDF files with  the EXTRACT button?

Could you please answer these question and tell me if and how I can use IMGBurn for this project?

    Thanks

    Ittiandro
