Well, you're not going to believe it - but --- success!! I really can't thank you enough for your patience. The external enclosure with the LG drive worked perfect. I guess it must be some dodgy controllers in the Dell board. Anyway, well done - even though I know it wasn't an ImgBurn issue.

OK, I'm going to give that a try. I'll run into town this evening and see what I can pick up. This is actually the third dvd burner I've had in the PC. The previous two were BenQ1625's. One developed a mechanical fault in the load tray. The other one would have a disc loaded but no program would recognzie it as loaded. Having said that, I've burned hundreds of DVD's with the BenQ's. I can't think of anything I changed - certainly no new hardware. In "turning the clock back" - I took out the LG and re-installed the old cable and each of the two BenQ's. Their original faults still remained - load tray and not recognizing the disk was loaded. So, here's the plan. I'll try to pick up either/or an external USB enclosure with the chipsets you mentioned or another BenQ1625 (even though two have failed me they at least worked for a time). Any other ideas? Thanks for holding my hand on this!

Edited-- Would an external USB2.0 dvd enclosure bypass these DMA issues? If so, that might be the best/quickest route to take. I've got to get some discs burned and out to clients very soon.

OK! Maybe we are getting to it now. I'll work on getting a screen grab but for now under IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers, I have an Ultra ATA storage controller a SATA AHCI controller, and Primary IDE controller also I note that above that I have DVD/CD-ROM drives, when I open that all I have listed is CD-ROM, even though I have disconnected it. Having said all that, I don't really have a clue- I'm just parroting back what I see.

Still no luck. My ImgBurn setting is also on SPTI which I assume is the default since I haven't been to that screen before. My Properties of the Primary IDE channel is the same as yours except I have Mode 4 and you have Mode 6. As a side note - how do you paste the screen grab in the forum here? Prt Scr works to grab it but paste is greyed out. I 12:22:06 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! Hi Lightning, thanks for your help. I'm going to drop the cd burner now. Yes, board one end of cable, drive at the other. I'd be delighted if it turns out I don't have to re-create the ISO. Thanks

I'll dump the cd so the dvd burner is the only thing on that cable. Re-create a new ISO and try to burn it. Hard drive is fine, no errors or problems in any other respect, etc. Not sure what you mean by : Which I/O are you using in ImgBurn ? I really appreciate your suggestions. It is a real puzzler to me why things went south on me all of a sudden. Thanks for the help.

Here is the motherboard info Board: Dell Inc. 0J3492 Serial Number: ..CN481114BJ0144. Bus Clock: 800 megahertz BIOS: Dell Inc. A05 03/16/2005 Mean anything to you? Also, I have the DVD burner as master at the end of the cable and my CD burner as slave in the "middle" of the cable. I rarely use the cd burner anymore - should I disconnect it and see what happens?

Re: cable, I used the one the manufacturer supplied. Based on what you said, I guess it is the thinner 80 pin cable and it was a thicker 40 pin that I took out. Re: motherboard, I can check. But, I had been using the same computer, ImgBurn, same discs, etc for about a year without any real probelms. I don't think this can be it, but is there anyway the iso file can be "corrupted". No real reason to think that, except that I am using an iso file about a year old. It would be a lot of work to re-create the iso from the original photos which is why I saved the iso file. Anyway, thanks for the input. Do you think the motherboard is important. It is a two year old Dell Dimension 8400 with a Pentium 4 2.8 chip.

Still no luck. I have 1) Replaced ribbon cable with one supplied with drive 2) Updated ImgBurn 3) Reduced burn speed from Max to 8X 4) Uninstalled and re-booted as suggested. As I said, I'm getting similar results with Nero, so I don't think it is an ImgBurn problem per se, but I am getting a large collection of coasters and no client discs! I've really got to get this sorted somehow. Thx for any help. I 10:33:30 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! I uninstalled and re-booted. I'm going to have to wait until the morning to open up the computer. I did get a ribbon cable with the new burner. I'll go ahead and install it and see what's what. I do appreciate the help. I'll let you know how it turns out. Right now, I have to go watch the season premier of "Lost" !! Thanks again.

I note that setting it to "max" it actually maxed out at 9.1 and was in the 8x range most of the time. Will changing it to 8x make that much difference? Seems like I read somewhere that setting it too slow (2x etc.) could cause problems as well. Thanks for the reply. I will try again at 8x.

I did just download the newest ImgBurn. I have the DVD set as master, but am just using the same cable that I was using with the BenQ. How would I know if 40 or 80 wire and why would I need a different one from the BenQ? Can you let me know how to uninstall the ide controller? Through Device Manager I assume, but . . . Thanks for the reply and suggestions.
  14. In a bit of a panic as I need to get some DVD's to a client ASAP. 1) I've used ImgBurn for over a year with a BenQ burner. That burner developed mechanical problems with the door so I went out today and got a new burner - an LG GSA-H22N that was highly rated at CDFreaks.com. There doesn't seem to be an updated firmware from LG - guess the drive is that new? 2) I'm using MCC-004 Verbatim discs and converting DVD+R to DVD-ROM. Any ideas? For what its worth, I get a similar error from Nero - seems to burn OK, but the fails to verify. Hoping its something simple !! Thanks, I 16:33:58 ImgBurn Version 1.2.0.0 started!
