  1. Might send donta a pm and see about that. Its not urrgent as im actually very contented with my LG. Blutach, your into your LG writers arent u? Think i recall reading about your frustrations with the bitsetting resetting each time the pc shut down. If i dont pick up a benq Might go for the lg h222n as there still easier to find. Like the 1640 it has great results with burning sl & dl's disks. Viewed some Plexors selling on ebay for over ?50. Not familar with that brand. Expensive even for an oem product. WHat gives....
  2. Dont be fooled into thinking that buying cheap media is the best option. In your case, you hav been quite fortunate but a great deal of burns that go tits up on this forum are the result of bad media. Used to burn successfully to cheap cd-r's at some point but the musics quality has progressively degraded over a period of 2yrs. You could suffer a similar fate if you plan use those DL's for years to come... Its False economy to think otherwise.
  3. Will do LUK. B4 i joined up with the forum here didnt ever bother with the Print Screen button. Been so useful of late esp in combo with Photoshop which i recently installed. Same goes for imgburn as well. Gav up on burning dvd media about a year in a half ago because i became frustrated with the process. Blissfully unawre of the importance of good media & Imgburn . Amz what u can do with a little research, peserverence and help from forums like this Burners, firmware & media -oh my- Should be the mantra for this site lol

    PS3

Sony hav gotten lazy in my opinion. PS3 might hav some powerful new chip but in terms of innovation it no better than a PS2. Whose bright idea was it to remove the rumble feature and replace with tilt function which i might add is a blatant rip off of the Wii's Controller. The only thing it s got going and the reason that joe public will buy, is for a cheap bluray player. Not sure why you would use it to run an OS in the case of maybe using linux but with 256mb of ram dont expect to do anything other then web browsing. Apparently 360 is practically as powerful as ps3 and even if that wasnt true, it gonna take years for 2nd and 3rd party game developers to take full advantage of the hardware. Most games are crossplatform anyway so i ll stick wit a 360 and its half decent HD DVD drive. Ever heard of Xbox live. 6million users and counting. Dont even ask about Sony's online service. You can buy a bluray writer for about ?400. More and more people watch ther media on a pc anyway so why bother. Not entirely convinced about the bluray format either. Only thing that will keep it in circulation, 5 years from now is sony new console <cough> PC hybrid. Just in case u think i work for MS, i actually think the Wii will domintae despite the fact that I wont buy one. Oh and regardless of whether u own a console or PC, the game market is kinda stagnant. Needs a revolution or a kick in the ass. Last great game i played was back in the 90's.

  8. Well aside from the dud media, ive burnt about 3 verb DL's so far and each one (film) has played back on a range of devices inc: 360, Old dvd player and one of those crappy Sanyo TV/dvd combo tellies. The bit setting in each case was set to -ROM. Given the advice i ll stick to that. Yeah u probably noticed from my last log that im still using 2.1.0.0. You people hav the eyes like a hawk. Dont miss a thing. Got a bunch of stuff to upgrade on the pc. ImgBurn inc.
  9. Yup, despite trying to swim up river for a bit. How does that quote go.... "should have taken a page from that b$t%h Hilary Clinton and let it go" Still curious though if any1 else has got other branded DL's to work with my burner LG GSA 4163b. Might buy a batch of mixed media and list a post with results at some point.
  10. So i guess its more of a question of quality of burn vs time taken and what your prepared to live with. Whats the point then of these new drives coming out with there 32x writes if you can stick with your older burner and just use the 8x and 2.4x speeds? Are the dvd's that you see in shops burnt at these 2.4x write speed when manufactured?
  11. Dont know why you would split a dvd movie when u could shrink it to one disk. Imagine splitting LOTR's Trilogy. End up with something like twelve disks not that six wasnt enough
  12. Ifcrule1972, thought so long as u had the latest firmware, good media & imgburn quality of burn wouldnt be affected by speed. Tried burning a dl verb today @ 2.4x which took over 40mins more or less. Considering 4x but would that mean the film or game would be less likely to be read. Hoping this question will help clear things up for D33zz as well as myself, lol
  13. Finally managed to pick up some Verbatims DL's for my LG GSA-4163b. Previous attemps with the Ume's just wouldnt cut it. Burn process for the verbs so far hav been flawless. Complete success Heres the log with a couple of queries regarding burn speeds for DL and bi-settings: 1) First arrow points to media speed. DL media stated that it burns at 2.4 on the box. But my burner will write at 4. Will Imgburn allow me to burn at 4 despite the DL limitation of 2? 2) Second arrow regards my question on bi-setting. I recall reading somwhere in this forum that dvd movies should be set to -ROM bs if burning a DL disk instead of the default +R DL as Rom is read better by stand alone players? Is this correct. Would they still work if set to default bi-setting. In my case i hav to use Verbatim media when burning DL disks based on the firmware of my Writer. Would still rather shrink films to single layer so only reason to justify buying DL in the future is a) price drops dramatically or b ) finally get round to flashing the FW on my 360. Appreciate all the previous posts. RushorDie

Whats the name of the guy who runs kentucky fried chicken. The Captain or something... KFC is one of the Best things that ever came out of the South, that and the accents. Names are pretty cool too. Joey jim bob. Deliverance is not the kind of movie that the APPALACHIAN-AMERICAN tourist board would promote. Sure its black listed over there.
  15. Any ideas on.... Trying to transfer the ISo+mds to som1 elses mac. Rather the ISO then the TS folder.
  16. If only SVP threw in free delivery like amazon. Pack of 10 DL verbatims works out at ?1.70 per disk but with the ?4 delivery charge, more like ?2pd. Really cant afford to make coasters at those prices. Equivalent of burning a five pound note after say two attempts. Good thing that verbatim make great disks then. Noticed that SVP our out of stock for a bunch of stuff and it always happens to be the things u need most. Whats the deal anyway with this european shortage of VB DL's?
  17. Hey there. Dont think its neccessarily an issue with what your doing interms of the steps u take to burn your disks. More to do with the media your using Never heard of Pengo but your better off with something classy like Verbatims. Sure some of your burns have been successful but for pure quality and consistency you cant beat good media. Save more money in the longterm and some hair on your head if u do Edit: Oh and u might want to make sure your firmware is up to date on your Pioneer 111d. Also consider pasting the Logs from ImgBurn as it would really help the experts giv u a better idea of whats going on.
  18. Hey Corny. I thought i was the only one awake at this ungodly hour. that answers part of my question but what about, What would happen if i chose NO instead of yes. Any difference in playback? thanks bro.
  19. Now i kinda know that films when stored on your HD are either DVD Files or an ISO Image. Ive burnt both to TY DVD-R with no hassle. So far so good. However when i used DD to do a 1:1 but left the DVD File as the whole 8gb rather then compress, noticed that theres no Audio Folder in the TS. Just the Video Folder. example Usually when u open an original dvd in your drive, you can see the Audio (which is empty) and Video Folders Contained withing the TS. But in this case the above image seems to only have video files. As a result when i used ImgBurn to Build SS into an ISO at some point during the setup i get this message: I dont recall seeing this when i first started out using IMB but in each case ive always said yes when it prompted me. Is this the correct choice and what would be the alternative if i selected no. Representative or Visible. Whats the Difference??? 2) When u burn a DL disks with imgburn u use the mds file as it has the Laybeak Info. Whats the deal when u do the same but with the TS folder. How does Imb know where to set the LB? 3) Also (rather than start a seperate post for this question can i ask) why when i try to transfer an ISO image with its MDS file to my Ipod It simply wont let me. I restored the ipod to be sure but in both cases an 8gb ISO+MDS wont transfer from my PC. It says that theres no space left but it has 20gb of storage. When i transfer the TS Folder equivalent (identical) it zips over in no time. Look forward to a reply...
  20. Ok, I officially giv up. You'll not hear another post about burning dud DL's. Had to get it out of my system but time to move on. Im awaiting an email from the returns department. Will repost with details when i burn with Verbatims. Hopefully withing a week. Only been three days here but managed to pick up loads of useful info. Meant the difference between coasting 15+ disks in a row or only five in my case. Can live with that. Really didnt realise though that its that bad with finding compat dyes for DL disks. Unbelieveabe that only MKM are the only choice. What the hell are these other companies doing. Hav they never heard of Research and Dev. Shame on them.
  21. Just discovered a firmware update for my LG GSA-4163b that wasnt listed with LG's US or European driver site. Upgraded from A105 > A106. As a result i decided to try and burn those DL UmeDiscs out of curiosity. Same prob as b4 i think. Heres the info: Inc Log: I 18:36:47 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! Why would it do that if the disk cant be burned to. When i tried to cancel Imgburn it had to be shut down via taskmanager and pc needed to be reset b4 i could pull the disk from the drive. Didnt mention b4 but want to be thorough this time. I know the media is pretty shoddy but are u guys sure its not something else? Ive seen some talk about changing the booktype but since i hav an LG player this is done automatically right? Under book type window (in my settings) > LG tab Change For: is set at Please Select... and the same for New Setting: PS. Do i not hav to change these options or will it not make a diff in my case??? Another issue that im wondering about is the wHAT Happens when u buy media that runs at say x4 or x8 but your dvd drive for DL only writes at x2 (and i think x4). Do the x8 disks default to x2 or are they set at those speeds. Just wanted to clarify b4 i proceeded with asking for an exchange. Gonna try and request some DL Verbatims after returning the Ume's. Thanks Again....
  22. Been browsing through the support section. Came across some chatter regarding PgcEdit. Need to confirm something. Bascially, I thought the reason why my DL +R Umedisks were coasting were probably related to an incompatibilty with my DVD drive. No one definitively confirmed this based on my log which is why im wondering, could the coasters hav anything to do with not using PgcEdit to restrucuture the dvd? Now i think ive been using a 1:1 reading program (DVD Decrypter) and being left with an ISO and a MDs File so this shouldnt even be an issue. Just hoping to eliminate all possibilites and be as close to 100% certainty if pos. This guy had all the right media and so fourth but it wasnt until he rebuilt the layer breaks b4 he could get good burns. Why would a program not make a clone of whats it copying and need to be restructured in the case of DL media??? Am i making sense or hav i spent too much time scanning though the support sections lol.
  23. Did a little checking and it looks like these DL UmeDisks ADVDInfo: RICOHJPND01 are not supported or at least favoured by my LG Drive. Im considering one more attempt but with NERO instead of ImgBurn. Would this make much of a difference because i saw the same I/0 error in DD? Not suprised with those results as DD uses the same burn engine more or less.
  24. Amz. $1000+ and nearly broke. Has any1 ever read Moby dick. Having deja vu. I really feel for New guy. Cant beleive that its come to this. Sounds like things are being overcomplicated. Dont hav anything technical to add other then stick to the single layers and avoid DL media if u can. My PC specs are humble by comparison. Only spent ?450 but it gets the job done. Yet to conqer the DL disks myself but thats only because i didnt buy mkm branded in the first place. Good luck NG. Curious to find out if u ever do vanquish that white whale
