Another option would be eSATA, if your system / external HDDs have them.

Install the drive(s) inside a (normal) computer with SATA ports and check if they're working OK there, to rule out the USB enclosure messing with communications. In any case, I'd recommend exchanging the burner / returning them under warranty as they definitely shouldn't have problems recognising blank media.

Update your burner's firmware and try burning at 16x. If that doesn't work then try with better quality discs, such as Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs (best quality), or even Sony CD-Rs (slightly better-than-average quality).

Yes, get Verbatim DVD+R DL discs if you want to stand a chance of getting good burns.

You could try burning your current discs at 4x and 6x to see if they burn but, most likely, you'll just make new shiny coasters.

ImgBurn doesn't convert anything, it burns as-is, so you probably need to convert your video file(s) with something like DVD Flick, DVDStyler, ConvertXtoDVD or similar programs.

It's a bug in the drive's firmware, just click Ignore/Continue and it should work.

The options for changing the default behaviour are in Tools -> Settings -> Events tab -> On Startup.

If it's a game disc then it probably has copy protection.

Please post the log of that burn.

Also try burning at 4x and 6x. You could also try cleaning the drive with a lens cleaning disc, or even manually if you know how to do it. The real problem is that slim burners are rubbish, especially when it comes to burning dual-layer media.

If you really can't move the burner to another SATA controller, try installing this driver for the VIA SATA controller.

Also apply the latest firmware for your burner.

Try this driver if your SATA controller is in AHCI mode, or this driver if it's in RAID mode.

The booktype command is still being blocked. Which chipset does your system have?

Your drive can only burn CDs, not DVDs, if that's what you're trying it won't work.
