My drive can read/write DVD+RW, I'll check them out. One thing that struck me is how DVD-R is recommended over DVD+R (or that's the impression I get) when DVD+R is technically superior to DVD-R. Is it just down to compatibility, or is there something else?

I'm settled on my DVD-R media of choice (TYG02), but I'm un-sure about DVD-RW. Perhaps some guidance from people who have used them can help. Just after peoples experience and opinions at this point.

Thanks for the advice. I would've researched the firmware before flashing it anyway. BTW, I tried erasing and writing to the same discs using another drive and they work perfectly. Guess my primary drive just doesn't like the dye.

It's these 2 bytes that contain the % complete status. 100% being FF FF As you can see, AB 89 is only just past half way As to why it's not finishing, I dunno, you'll have to ask the drive Try some discs with a different dye. Verbatim ones or something. Perhaps get some DVD-RW's too while you're at it so you have a few to play around with. Ah I see. Well, thanks for the help. I'll try with some of the other DVD+RW with the same media code/dye and see what happens. I suppose it's possible that my drive doesn't like that type of dye if it happens with them all.

I wish there was a "last bit", it just keeps going. Any idea why it wouldn't finish?

The author of the software already confirmed the behavior I reported on this discussion, if you read it. He says that the settings made by the administrator have no effect when other users run the program. Good idea. If I don't like what my firewall is telling me, shut it off! And if I see a traffic accident happening in front of me, close my eyes! No, of course it is not Windows firewall. That thing trusts most anything malicious software wants to do, including most of the spying Microsoft programs want to do. So the OS you're running on right now doesn't do anything you don't know about? Or even other programs running on it? If you're going to be incredibly anal about security then I'd just stop living. Security can only be built by humans, and it's humans that break security down. I'm sorry to say it, but there's not perfect security... or world.

No, I don't have any other re-recordable media - I have been meaning to get some more though... any recommendations? I don't have the log, I'll re-erase it and post it. EDIT: Log post below. Like I said, I wasn't timing. It probably was around the 10 minutes mark. The firmware is up-to-date, but all the DVD+RW are of the same media code/dye. I'll try pressing F8 and see what happens. You are correct. I installed it as administrator. (Administrators install stuff.) I told it not to check for updates. Then I logged in as a non-admin user. (You shouldn't be an administrator if you're not planning to install stuff.) On starting the program it (A) ignored the fact the administrator told it not to update, and ( assumed a non-admin user who never had the chance to uncheck some setting would be updating the software. You are telling me it is functioning as intended. I accept that. I am suggesting you might want to alter your intent if you don't want to arouse the suspicions of security-aware users. Your choice of course. I'm just telling you how your (program's) actions look to this observer. It gives you an option, you and only you chose how it acts. If you still think it arouses suspicions, I'd suspect yourself instead.

And you sound like an idiot to me. You've been told 3 times already why ImgBurn connects to these sites. Even the author has told you. I'd tell you for a forth time if I thought you'd listen. Given your apparent inability to grasp simple English, it may be time for you to sell your PC and buy something less complicated. I suggest an Etch-a-sketch. I explicitly told it NOT to check for updates. It is MY responsibility to change my computer's software, NOT YOURS. But it tried to connect to these hosts anyway! This smells like spyware to me! DVD burning software should NOT need an internet connection. It should only have to read the hard disk and write the DVD. Please update your software to only initiate an internet connection in response to my specific request. Software that does suspicious things of its own initiative is not to be trusted. It seems to be have designed that way. Don't like it? Uninstall it... I'm sure plenty of other software programs do exactly the same thing.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm doing a full erase. It takes ~5 minutes or so to get to 98% - I wasn't timing though.

I've got some DVD+RW discs which I can't erase. ImgBurn gets to 98%, the drive spins up and down constantly and never completes. It doesn't appear to be isolated to some damaged discs, it's all DVD+RW media I use. Some facts below: - The drive is a: PHILIPS DVD+-RW SDVD8820 with AX02 firmware. - The DVD+RW discs media code are: INFODISC-A10-01. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
