  1. Hey LUK, I've got a question. Can you please explain the process of Optimum Power Calibration, for the sake of knowledge. Thanks.
  2. I checked both the drives with another pc that is not controlled by a jmicron, and the result is the same. The LiteOn drive now just blinks, the green lamb blinks whether there is media inside or not. I think I can now consider both the drives dead, right?
  3. I tried hooking the LH-20A1P directly on the MB, well, It did burn 2 dvds, but it took the drive 2 minutes to recognize the disc and 3 minute to finish Synchronising Cache after two failed attempts. The result DVDs are not readable on my BenQ 1655 (reads as blanks) while it reads on other LiteOn drives. here is a Log: I 01:05:55 ImgBurn Version 2.4.0.0 started! I also tried to hook the DW1800 directly to MB instead through the card controller, but it still can't go past the "Retry Failed - Power Calibration Area Is Full". The weird part is, 2 dead drives in the same time with the nearly the same symptoms, how lucky Am I?
  4. Ah, I'm sorry, my bad. I'll try to hook the LH-20A1P and try, what about the DW1800, should I consider is dead or is there anything I can try?
  5. semaphore time outs are usually caused by the chip in the external case. Its possible the actuyal drive is OK, just the case its in needs changing. a search on "semaphore timeout" might show which case's are the ones to avoid This drive is not in an enclosure, it's hooked up to a card controller (jmicron chip) and it used to function correctly before I changed the firmware. I had the idea of hooking the drive up directly to MB but I guess it won't make a difference since the MB controls the drive through a jmicron chip too.
  6. Is anyone doing the Arabic translation or should I start with it?
  7. brand and model # of your power supply? It's a Gigabyte Odin 800WATT Model #: GE-M800A-D1 The rest of drives are working ok btw.
  8. Hello guys, I've got some weird problems, I think that these 2 drives are dead. The first drive is a BenQ DW1800, I crossflashed it a while ago to 20A4P 9P57 firmware, and it was working fine until I updated the firmware to 9P57 and tried to burn a disc at 20X speed, after that it's dead. 9. I don't think I've read anything on cdfreaks like that. It's a conclusion if I may. I had a problem, and did three things to solve it at the same time. Changed the IDE cable. Changed the driver for the controller. Changed the FW to the stock firmware. Trying to pin point the source of the problem, I hooked the old IDE cable back and burned 5 DVDs with no problem, rolled back the driver and also burned like 7 DVDs still no problem, and flashed the patched firmware back, burned one dvd and the next one gave the error again. So I jumped to the conclusion that There might be a conflict between one of the features with the Liteon and the controller..? What do you think?
  10. Thanks cornholio7. I still have some weird problem with the controller though. One dvd burned ok but the session didn't close, tried it on other units and it showed as a blank, and couldn't close the session with nero either. And btw, I figured what caused the earlier problem. The patched firmware I was using caused the problem. http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/liteon-16a7s-...ware-new-207033 So Liteon LH-20A1P + TYG03 + C0deKing Patched firmware + jmicron controller (Both versions) = failure. The firmware enabled FastBurn + Enhanced OverSpeed + Enhanced Online HyperTuning. I will try to find which one of those feature really caused the problem for the sake of research.
  11. Out of curiosity. Does the controller affect the quality of the burn?
  12. Thanks a lot for the insight lmao2k Unfortunately I've already ordered this StarTech card with the jmicron controller for the extra IDE optical drives I have. I'll try it and give you feedback, and if it wasn't any good, I'll grab one with ITE chipset.
  13. Another thing. I've bought this card controller but didn't install it yet. Can you give me any feedback about the card and it's compatibility with optical devices. http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemDetail...T2IDE2&c=US Technical Specifications Warranty Lifetime warranty Bus Type PCI Express Connector Types 2 - SATA Data 7 pin Female Connector Types 1 - IDE 40 pin Male Carton Quantity 50 Shipping (Package) Weight 0.35 lb [0.16 kg] Chipset JMicron JMB366 Maximum Data Transfer Rate 300 Mbps (SATA2/SATA300) 133 Mbps (IDE)
  14. I did three things at the same time, one of them fixed the problem. I installed the new driver (There is a SATA mode and an IDE mode in the driver installation, and both seem to work fine). I changed the IDE cable. I changed the firmware from a patched fm to the stock firmware. One of those things did the trick, which one?, I can't say. I've burned like 10 dvds afterwards to make sure it's done. And I don't have RAID enabled.
  15. Onboard SATA/IDE Device (Enabled) Onboard SATA/IDE Device ctrl mode (IDE)
  16. Yes, there are 2 purple SATA connectors on the motherboard that are controlled by the jmicron chipset but I've assigned them to the external sata connectors. I'll check the SATA/IDE now.
  17. I have 3 storage controllers, I don't know which one is assigned to the writers. And yes, I've been using this burner for a long time on my old PC with a standard southbridge, and it never showed this problem. Also, the ide cable is the same old one, I don't think there is a problem with it.
  18. Thanks for the fast response chewy. Yes. I think the (SCSI) is the IDE controller on the motherboard. Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5 http://www.gigabyte.eu/Products/Motherboar...?ProductID=2672
  19. Hello there, I've never encountered this problem before. I'd like to mention that in both the times this problem happened, I was watching a video file fullscreen, I don't know, it might be related, coz between the two times it happened, i successfully burned one dvd without error and without a full screen video plays. 20. Well, ImgBURN just rocks. It started for me with the idea that there must be something out there better than this shit (nero). especially after I updated the nero to 7.5.XXXX, It just sucks. I tried every other program out there, Roxio, Power2Go, Instant CD/DVD NTI, you name it. I didn't try ImgBurn until someone recommended it on the cdfreaks forum, I guess the program being free made me ignore it at first. What really hooked me up, is the batch file idea for multiple burns in build mode, that saved TIIIMEEEEE. When I tried it, I was as happy as the day I started using FireFox. THANKS LUK!.
  21. Thank you for your reply dontasciime. I figured that the new version of cdspeed got improvements regarding the new LightON error reporting capabilities. I got it, but I'm worrying that the new version might have difference in the reporting and render all my reference scans useless and I might need to do them again. I'll do it anyway. What did you think of the scans BTW?
  22. I don't mind the extra few minutes ifcrule1972, it's just I thought there was something wrong with my drive or something that I do to make it burn faster. As chewy mentioned above, the drive "learned" that those mids are best burned at 8X-12X, so it burns them at those speeds never reaching 16X. Here are three Burns with the LiteOn scanned with the BENQ 1655 so I can compare them to old BENQ scans. What do you think? 1 And that's the same Disc scanned at the LiteOn at 8X. 2 3
  23. Here is the same disc with the LiteOn at 8X: Did you mean by that that I need to disable the WOPC and the Solid Burn? And based upon those scans, and the assumption that I did more scans with the LiteOn and the BENQ 1800 and they turned out the same, do you think I should burn those TYG03 with the LiteOn? The Idea of the TYG03 is that I bought a lot of them, based on the fact that we don't get a lot of good discs down here. I'm sorry if I have a lot of questions, but It's rarely you get a knowledgeable person to question.
