.ISO file burned to DVD-DL not executable - please help :(

Ok, so I'm trying to burn an .ISO file of Mac OS X Leopard onto a double-layer DVD using ImgBurn on my WinXP computer. The file is like 7.5GB, and also has a 9KB .MDS file along with it. I've read through all the guides/forums - and I found a bunch of stuff on double-layer DVDs, which helped me finally get a successful burn without getting errors halfway through BUT when I try running the DVD on my Mac, all I'm able to do is see the actual files, but it doesnt boot up the program.

Now, I did have some trouble when I was burning the DVD - I wasnt able to bring up the layer break screen - I tried clicking on the calculator, I tried seeing if I could access it through the top menus - but I couldn't bring it up & it definitely wasnt coming up on its own - so I dont know if this might be the issue?

Here's the log of the burn:

I 08:51:18 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started!

I 08:51:19 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)

I 08:51:19 Total Physical Memory: 1,037,416 KB - Available: 686,408 KB

I 08:51:19 Initialising SPTI...

I 08:51:19 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 08:51:19 Found 1 DVD

I 09:15:59 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x)

The only discs we recommend for dual layer burning are the DL's made by Verbatim, all others are pure problems.

W 09:16:00 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 3,324 KB/s (2.4x), Got: 5,540 KB/s (4x)

This iccurred because the lowest speed these will write, if they work, is 4X

And why didn't you verify your burn?

Yea, unfortunately, I didn't know about the Verbatim DVDs until after I used several discs out of a 25-pack that I purchased, and I need to have this program fairly quickly, so I don't really have time to order the better ones :( Is there any way to make these work? And did the DVD type cause the layer-break screen to not appear? If you have any other suggestions, I would really really appreciate it.

Also, I did verify the disc, i just didn't include that part of the log, but here it is:

You appear to be burning an iso in Build mode - even though the program warned you about it several times... why?!

You burn ISO files (disc images) in Write mode, not Build mode.

I was following the guides, or at least i thought I was, for burning a double layer DVD. I'm super frustrated & burning a DL disc for the first time, so I'm sorry I missed that - really didnt see that anywhere. I saw that ImgBurn gave a warning, but the guide didnt say anything about it.

So I should be burning to a DL disc in write mode, and the .ISO file will then be executable on the Mac?

Thanks for your help

Yes, if the ISO file is authored properly by the one who created it.

The layer break window will only show up when you burn DVD Movie files.

I see - i don't know why I got so confused then - i think i was overthinking this double-layer thing lol

Thanks again for your help :)

Ok, I just ran ImgBurn in write mode, and when I try to select the .ISO file, the program tells me it will select the .MDS file instead.

Then, once I burn the DVD-DL and put it in the mac, all I can see are the four .RAR files that make up the .ISO.

What am I doing wrong????

Here's my log:

I 13:33:47 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started!

You can use this program to see what's on the original .iso file - www.7-zip.org - if it's contains 4 .rar files in that original .iso file also - then it is as it should. The burning part is ok.

Perhaps look at the Mac place you got the installation disc to find out how to use it.

The thing is, when i pop the disc into the mac, all it does is show me the contents of the disc, which is the 4 rar files (not even in one .ISO file) - i'm just trying to get this thing to run the program so I can install Leopard. Shouldn't I be burning the .ISO onto the disc, instead of the .MDS file?

the .mds file is only holding information about the .iso.

Start from the installation DVD

To start your Leopard installation, simply insert the Mac OS X Leopard Install DVD and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.

You can also start by inserting the Install DVD and restarting your computer while holding down the C key, or by selecting the Install DVD as your startup disk using Startup Disk preferences.

Is there an 'Install Mac OS icon' on the burned disc?

No, there isn't. Just the 4 .RAR files. I tried burning the .ISO file, but the program kept saying 'You should have selected the MDS file and not this one. I'll do it for you automatically this time, but don't do it again!' lol

The MDS file shows that its only 9KB large, but it burns onto the disc at 7GB. So....i don't know if its actually selecting the ISO?

Maybe if I remove the MDS file from the folder? When I do that, then the program lets me select the ISO file.
