Hopefully someone can help me out here. I have been looking for a long time and have not found a real answer to my problem here. first of all i am using verbatim 8.5gb 2.4x discs. im using my toshiba laptop running vista with a generic dvd drive which is dvd+r dl capable.

anyways i was able to use an xbox 360 iso image file and get through most of the burn with ImgBurn, and near the end i got the message

W 13:40:28 Potential 'WaitImmediateIO' Deferred Error - (0/3) - Program Memory Area Update Failure

W 13:40:28 Finalise Disc Failed! - Reason: Program Memory Area Update Failure

after awhile of that i finally got it to say

W 13:40:29 Finalise Disc Failed! - Reason: Program Memory is FULL **(something just like that but without the caps. I wasnt able to access my log)

from here i could get nothing and eventually just clicked continue and it said the disc failed, and it didnt work. I got to this same exact point a second time and tried something i read somewhere about unchecking tools--settings--write Xfinalize disc auto retry. Still did not work. Do i just need to manually finalize the disc from here? I am new to this and not sure exactly how it works.

would really like to be able to burn some discs asap. I dont understand why it says the program memory is full. Does that mean that the disc is full? Like the driver did not plan the burn right and ran out of room or messed up the internal table of contents or something? And what can I do to fix this??

* and now when im in imgburn it says "Device Not Ready (No reference position found)" at the bottom. So now my computer is not even reading the discs? ahhh! would like some help please

thanks a lot!

Hey sorry for the delayed response I am out of town for the thanksgiving. Anyways the problem with posting my log is that I have since uninstalled Imgburn. I was having trouble burning a cd, and also i figured now I will be able to read dl discs again. So i dont htink there is anyways i can recover my log now right? - And thanks a lot for the quick response! :)

So what i can do is try the burn again and then show you the log. I will be home this weekend and will be able to do so. Thanks again.

this is where im getting stuck

W 20:10:32 Potential 'WaitImmediateIO' Deferred Error - (0%, 0/3) - Program Memory Area Update Failure

ok so I am back home. So you are saying the only way to fix my problem is to change the driver/firmware/media? i looked for the latest firmware for my driver, i could find nothing it seemed hard because i have a generic burner, so i had my computer look through vista or whatever and it said everything is up to date. I'm using verbatim, should i just try using memorex? I would really like to use my laptop and not have to buy another burner if at all possible. Would it be beneficial for you guys if i tried again and posted my entire log? I am really dedicated to making this work. It seems like the game gets burned fine but cant finalize.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You!

ok so i Finally got my computer to read dl discs again. i was about to give up.

ok so i have the blank disc inserted, and in write mode.. it doesn't say much in the log but here it is. I am tempted to try to burn another iso image, but i will wait for a reply and save my disc. hopefully this is what you were asking me to post (if not please let me know). thanks a lot

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40F PT04 (ATA)

Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x

2.4x is the only available write speed, so even if you choose 2x the burner will still use 2.4x.

It seems your burner's firmware has poor support for the Verbatim blanks, which, by the way, are the best you can get on the market. You can try other dual-layer blanks if you want but I'm not sure they'll work.

Look in the laptop's manufacturer website for firmware updates for your burner, as that could add better support for the Verbatim blanks.

Yea i have been looking like crazy for an update for my burner. I still have not been able to find one. On the toshiba site they have some updates available, but it seems like it is for some burning software and not my actual burner? I think I know what I am looking for, but now im not so sure because I cant find it.

here is the site for my specific computer and the available updates.. could you help me with what i need?

- they seem to have a drvier for almost everything except for dvd-rom. and they only have utilities for my dvd-rom.. so I am not really sure.

also i did try another burn. I can post the log. This time I clicked continue through both Program Area Memory Full & Tracking In Session

i think tried close>>driver and got an error message. let me know if i should post my whole log and the error messages from trying to close

thanks again

alright so i got a lens cleaner and also got a different kind of disc (memorex) to try just in case. i cleaned my drive and then tried a memorex disc and got the same error as before. I tried again with the verbaitm and got the same error again as well. should i post my log? from both or just one of the discs?

Looks like your burner is no good anymore. Can you return/exchange it under warranty or something like that? If you can't then you should start looking at external (normal size) burners, because slim burners are rubbish.

damn ok. no i dont think i have any warranty for my laptop anymore. so if i got an external burner would this work for sure? i think i can still burn normal dvds with my laptop but i guess a dl is too much or something. is there a certain brand of burner i should get or something? hopefully i could get one for pretty cheap
