Writing LeadIn stuck, Power Calibration Area Error

Hi,

I used ImgBurn a small few times successfully when I first installed it, but at one point it stopped working for me. I didn't use it again for many months but tried again today after buying a spindle of Verbatim DVD+R single-layer discs instead of the old Memorex I used before, including sometimes successfully. After doing some research, I found that having the SPTD driver disabled makes ImgBurn work properly in many if not all cases. I did that but still have the same problems. I can't burn anything at all; the process just hangs at Writing LeadIn and always gets to 20 retries before I stop it. Today I installed a newer version of ImgBurn to see if it would make a difference, but it didn't.

The following are 3 logs: first from with the SPTD driver, second without it enabled it, and third a log from Roxio. I can't burn anything with ImgBurn, Roxio, or Vista Windows Explorer "Burn To Disc." I don't see why the media would be the problem, and there doesn't seem to be an update for my DVD-ROM driver.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your drive is complaining about the discs. It (its firmware) can't find a decent write strategy for burning to them.

I 18:27:38 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-M01-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

CMC are just cheapo discs. Get yourself some Verbatim (MCC / MKM) or Taiyo Yuden discs instead.

You might also like to try burning at the other supported write speeds - except 8x, which you've already tried when burning at 'MAX'.

Cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc may help.

Failing that, and if decent Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden discs also fail, get yourself a decent external 'normal' size burner - slimline ones are all pretty rubbish.
