BD RE complete but not playing

Recommended Posts

Hi I just installed a new LG BH10 Blu Ray writer and updated the firmware straight away, and burnt my first disc which plays great on my computer but not in my LG Blu Ray player to my TV. At the moment I am just trying it again. I just wondered if you viewed my log you could tell me if I could have done anything different. LG recommend the Panasonic BD-RE so that is what I used.

This type of thing usually comes down to authoring and if all the right folders are present (or absent!) from the compilation. Different players like different things.

Playback issues aren't something we really concern ourselves with here - as ImgBurn just burns what you give it. You might have more luck on a forum that deals with whatever made your source files in the first place.

The MultiAVCHD thread over at the Doom9 forums may have info relevant to your specific player.

OK Thanks Lightning, I will try them. The authoring program by the way was Freemake Video Converter. The disc does play and Imageburn made a good job of it to play on my computer.

I notice when I try to burn my Panasonic BD-RE, Imageburn tells me it has to do it at 2.4 but the disc cover says 1-2x and nothing about 2.4 on it. So if my new LG burner only writes at 2.4 is the BD-RE not compatible with imageburn settings of 2x. My manual says the LG BH10 will burn these disc's at 2x/2x I have put that reading in for the media but it doesn't recognise it. Perhaps that is why my disc's do not play on my LG Player, because they are burning too fast. Is this a possibility. Have tried other forums without luck.

LG drives have always had a built in 'overspeed' feature for BD-RE discs. They always burn at 2.4x rather than 2x - at least on the single layer BD-RE discs anyway.

LG made the decision to do that so they must know it works fine.

Your LG player may want discs with spare areas enabled / disabled. You'd have to reformat the disc with the option flipped to see if it makes a difference. Changing the option will effect the free space on the disc so you may have to adjust your authoring program to take that into account when creating the files you wish to burn.

I have had the tick in the box and out of the box where it says "Prefer Format Without Spare Areas" is that what you mean? I have just completed two films from ISO files, one made with Imgeburn and one with Freemake. Both burnt using Imageburn and play fine on my computer but not in my LGBD550 Blu-Ray player attached to my TV. Nothing wrong with Imageburn, it seems so I am guessing it must be my stand alone player that wont play these films, although the manual for that says it plays BDRE/R. Glad I only bought a BD-RE to try first at the moment. It doesn't recommend Verbatim like I use for ordinary DVD films. Mitsubishi, Kagaku Media, Maxell, Sony and Panasonic, which I used for trial. To format do I use the ReZero, I can't see format in the right click?

Yes, that's the bit I meant. You actually have to do a full erase after changing it though.

The format command is issued to the drive when you do a Full Erase (or Erase -> Full as it is in the program's menus).

When you say they play fine on your PC, how are you actually testing them? You'd have to be playing them as a proper BD video disc using something like PowerDVD or Total Media Theatre. Double clicking on a raw video file isn't enough / correct.

Hi Lightning, yes I am testing them with the actual BD-RE disc in my computer using PowerDVD9 with the patch update. It plays just fine on my computer, but not on my TV through my LG Player. The only thing I haven't done is a full format using the tick in or out of the box, so will have to try that next. I haven't even tried a new Blu-Ray film in my LGBD550 to TV yet, so will have to go and hire one to see if it works OK. I only just bought that too. I will keep trying.

It's currently formatted with spare areas enabled by the look of it, so you just need to full erase it again having ticked the option.

If it still doesn't work after doing that (and reburning something to it), try an original BD disc and perhaps a BD-R or BD-RE using a different MID/dye.

For what it's worth, my Sony BD player has no problem with my BD-RE. Maybe you could exchange the unit for one that does what you need it to?
