Verification Error

I've burned about 30 BD-R single layer without any problem. Yesterday I've upgraded to firm from PL01 to PL04.

Now, out of 4 discs, I have 2 failed at verification. The log is at the bottom and I've taken out most of repetitive messages.

There are mainly 2 types of errors:

I 22:53:29 Verifying Sectors...

W 22:53:29 Miscompare at LBA: 106175, Offset: 0, File: \BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts

W 22:53:29 Device: 0x00 (Empty Sector!)

W 22:53:29 Image File: 0x6F

W 22:53:29 Total Errors in Sector: 2,035

I 22:57:35 Verifying Sectors...

W 22:57:40 Failed to Read Sectors 112400 - 112431 - Reason: L-EC Uncorrectable Error

W 22:57:47 Failed to Read Sector 112400 - Reason: L-EC Uncorrectable Error

W 22:57:47 Sector 112400 maps to File: \BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts

I've done some quick search and there are a few places talking about similar things, like

http://www.ixtreme.net/open-forum/17835-how-burn-xgd3-using-...n-verify-using-kprobe-2-a.html

Should I change the options given in the thread?

OPC = Off

HT = On

FHT = Off

OS = Off

SmartBurn = On

Burn Proof = Off

Thanks!

Your drive lists 4 different 'supported' write speeds for the 'PHILIP-R04-000' media, try something other than 4x.

You can scan your burns with the likes of Opti Drive Control to see the quality.

I wouldn't start messing with the drive's advanced (EEPROM) settings just yet and 'Burn Proof' does nothing these days, the feature is always enabled and the setting is ignored by the drive. People just make stuff up and it has a placebo effect.

All the disc I've used are from the same batch. The success rate before yesterday was really good. One bad one was burned when I was running another program with significant disc activity on the same hard drive. The other one was burned while the machine is idling.

Do you think it's just matter of hitting a bad stretch? I will try 2X but it will take a lot longer so I'd hope to return to 4X.

Is there a free alternative to Opti Drive Control?

Thanks

I 22:46:47 Source Media Supported Write Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x

As you can see, 2x isn't an option so it would be pointless to try it.

I can't tell you what the actual problem is, just that there is one (and you already know that). Something about your drive/firmware/media combo is (now) producing bad burns. If possible try some discs from a different spindle - ideally one using a different MID/dye. If there's a generic problem with the PL04 firmware and 'PHILIP-R04-000' MID/dye, tell LiteOn about it so they can fix it in PL05 or whatever.

You don't need Opti Drive Control to be free right now, you can test it for 30 days or whatever.

The retail package says the disc is 4X. When I first got it, I left ImgBurn to run as MAX and it produced the first coaster (it runs about 6X). After that, I've set it AWS (4X) and had no problem. All other options appear to be higher speed. Will that make things worse?

The only change in b/w is the firmware upgrade from PL01 to PL04. Should I try to downgrade (I actually can't find a way to do it as LiteOn uses SmartPack to upgrade only)?

Will download Opti Drive Control and try it.

Thanks

Max would be 10x, as you can see from the line I quoted in my previous message.

If 4x isn't working anyway, trying something faster can't really be any worse!

I've found the PL01 firmware posted here - http://club.myce.com/f142/liteon-ihbs112-212-12x-bd-rw-313469/index8.html#post2612900

You could flash the BIN file using C0deKing's flash utility.
